That did make me laugh!! Not being morbid, but I would like to have the opportunity to get rid of some things that I really dislike around here. Actually, I'm working up to bringing them up soon LOL.

Actually, I don't think I've ever heard that before. Most women I know feel that if they went first, their husbands wouldn't have a clue about most everything! I would have to leave a lot of detailed instructions, like who gets my yarn stash......

I can't say I've ever heard any woman say that.

I've never heard anyone say that, but I imagine there are a lot of women who might. Women who don't think they can live without their husband (or just wouldn't want to).

Now I do think most parents would agree that they want to die before their children do.

I think a woman would get along much better alone than a man. My DH can't cook much, hasn't a clue about washing, shopping. I can do all those things, plus pay the bills and take care of the car. So I would prefer that he go before me, don't like to think about that, but I know both of us would carry on without the other, but it wouldn't be much fun!

I don't know that I've ever heard that before either. My MIL and FIL used to argue who would go first because the other would have to get rid of the other's stuff. But I don't think either actually wished it. By the way, my father in law won and I'm thinking my mother in law would have liked to have won that little fight. But my father in law died less than 2 months ago so she's still adjusting.

I'm 72 years old and have never heard a wife/woman say that. I don't think I have ever thought about it but whatever comes, we'll handle it.

Maybe DH and I could do the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid thing -- leap off a cliff together? LOL

I just don't want either of us to lose our minds or have prolonged deaths.

I think it would be hardest for whichever one is left alone,
at least in our case. Not all couples feel that way though...

Oh yes. Both my Mom and Step Dad have said that more than once. "I just hope I go first". They've both been married before and have gone through the heartache of watching their past loves die. That's what I assume anyway.

well, he didn't die... but he must have been ready to go on without me. He is getting married on New Years Eve.

Well, here you go--while I don't think I've ever actually said it out loud, I selfishly hope I go first. I watched my mother miss my father for every day of the 25 years she outlived him. I don't want to be alone like that I know my husband would be fine without me.

And boy, whoever said it is right, I DON'T want to have to clean the garage or basement, either--LOL!

I've heard women say that who feel they just couldn't live without their spouses.

As far back as I can remember, my mother always said she wanted to go first. She could never have taken care of herself. We always believed that my father would go first. We were wrong. Mom was almost 84 when she passed away in 2009; Dad is still going strong and will be 90 his next birthday.

Well, first I totally agree with chisue, I hope neither of us loses our minds or has a prolonged death. With that being said, I confess I have said it before. My husband can cook (some), clean, laundry, etc. He would be o.k. I could never ever keep up all the yard work, mowing, weed eating, fixing things like leaks, cleaning gutters etc. ]

And an even bigger reason, he is a retired state employee, if he goes before me, I lose my healthcare benefits. I'm only covered as long as he's alive. I couldn't afford it myself.

And honestly, I don't want to be here without him. If it happens that way, then it does. Life goes on and so would I. But like another poster said, I watched my mom grieve my dad's death for 12 years before she died.

Ha! I was visiting my Dad this weekend and my DS and DBIL were also visiting and left before me. They told my dad to make sure I run the dishwasher before I left. He said that's okay, Sue (my other sister who lives nearby) will do it tomorrow. My mom's been gone since December but I guess he has no plans to learn to run the dishwasher. I mean, he doesn't really need to since the dishwasher only gets filled when we're all visiting but I can't understand why men think the dishwasher is such a mystery. When I told my husband that I wanted a divorce, he thought if he started helping around the house more, I might change my mind. The first thing he asked me was how to OPEN the dishwasher. We lived in that house with the dishwasher for almost 10 years.

My DH is very self-contained, so he'd fare just fine alone. He would wish he had our doggie Ginger back, though.

I'm on the side of "not wanting to clean up/out his office, two sheds and a garage. (Well, a few china barrels are mine) And not long ago, I didn't believe he could really take care of himself. He IS learning and has become a pretty good caregiver. Might live on tv dinners and boiled eggs, but he would survive.

I've said it before. My DH does SO MUCH around here, I'm not sure I could run my household alone. I seldom even drive anymore. Probably not a good thing, but before some eye surgery 8 years ago, I had about 12 years of very poor vision when I COULDN'T drive. I sorta got out of the habit and it's kinda scary now. I drive MAYBE five miles a month, if that.
