I have everything turned right-side out when it goes into the laundry basket to be washed. My stepson, however, has his dirty laundry every-which-way, which means I have to straighten it out - he works in a fast food restaurant - yuk!

I just know he's going to move out one day, then my world will be 'as it should be'! LOL

When DH used to give me his socks all in wads, I would return them to him that way, unwashed. It's only courteous to the person doing the laundry because it does take extra time, and sometimes socks are stinky and I'd really rather not. Good question.

When my DH and I married back in 1967 he would leave his clothes everywhere and inside out. I started picking them up and turning them right side out. I asked him to please pick up his clothes and turn them right side out but he continued with his bad habit. So I decided to just leave his stuff where he left it. One day he asked where something was and I told him to check where he last saw it. He wasn't happy but I told him I worked full time and I wasn't his maid. If he happened to forget and didn't turn his shirts or socks I just washed them inside out and folded them that way.

After that he was real good about picking up and turning everything and even took it to the hamper. He still does this today. We have raised our GS since he was a baby and he was taught the same thing. If he doesn't turn his clothes I call him into the laundry room and make him do it.

I am in the process of teaching the GS how to do the laundry, DH already knows how.

Both DH and I put clothes in ready to wash -- except he doesn't zip up his pants or tops and I do.

We both also hang up clothing NOT ready for washing as we remove them. No piles on the floor. Towels also go on their rods, not on the floor. We're both well-trained, extremely neat only children!

I did the same as Nita. After asking nicely a few times, if the socks were wrong-side out, that's how they went back in the drawer. My biggest problem was his leaving tissues in his pockets. I decided I wasn't going to check every pair of pants in the wash to make sure they didn't and the next time it happened and I had a washer full of linty clothes, I pitched a holy fit and told him he could do his own damned laundry. He suddenly got the message!!!

Woody is actually better about it than I am, but I've found that sometimes things get turned inside out in the process of washing it and I've never had a sock stay wadded up, so I don't worry about it. He also checks all his pockets, since the day I washed bullets and heard them grinding around in the dryer. Eeek. lol They had gone partway thru the holes in the drum and were rubbing on the liner. I was not happy. :)

i do all of the above..plus I make sure that my bra's are hooked. Forgot one time and the hooks got mangled in the wash.

In my house and clothes get washed, dried and put away in the same condition they were in the hamper! (but I do check pockets as my dh sometimes forgets and leaves money, it my tip) My teens now do their own laundry and my dh is slowly learning ;o)

They go in like they are taken off, I'll deal with the other stuff later.

I wear jean and tees only. So everything I put in my hamper is first turned inside out since I wash them that way.

Socks are straightened and right side out. So are undies.

Except for socks and underwear, I always turn clothes wrong side out when I wash them. Why? Because that is the way I was taught by my mother.

I never realized it was such a big deal to turn my children's or my DH's clothes as I put them in the machine.

Since it is just me here now, I'm the one who leaves the kleenex in the pockets.

My husband lived in a household of women-his mom and 2 sisters. I assume they picked up and cleaned up afdter him. When we married, he'd take his clothing off at bedtime and toss it under the bed. Fine, on laundrey day, I'd pull it all out, sort, straighten, wash, dry, fold and put away. I asked him several times to use a hamper. I put one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. He continued storing his clothes under the bed. So I decided to go on strike. I let the clothes pile up under the bed. One day he ran out of clean socks. I told him, look ubder the bed. He threw a fit and pulled everything out. we took it all over to the laundromat where they have gigundo-size machines. Brought home and he said he'd "try" the hampers. Still ubder the bed. I gave up, and returned to pulling the clothes out from ubder the bed and washing it. As I had always done. I'm still doing it 31 years ;ater.

I turn knits wrong side out. I fold a little to keep them from being so wrinkled. I talked to a lady one day that told me she presses her clothes before she launders them. I was shocked and said "why, you have to press them anyway?"

I also, in my older age, turn most outerwear wrong side out to launder. It seems to prevent some pilling, Hubby is and has always been very good about unders and socks being right side out. Thank goodness, as he wears as many as three pairs of socks a day (all white!) Don't know if USMC or Mama trained.

I turn clothes inside out too.. cause my mom did..socks straightened out a bit.. pants zipped.. bras hooked..

I often turn clothes inside out too. If they don't really "look" dirty the inside part is probably actually dirtier from sweat, etc. Plus, it causes less damage to the part of the shirt people see.

I thought your supposed to turn jeans inside out too so the cuff or hem lays better and to prevent fading and color transfer. I usually hand wash my bras...The straps seem to get messed up hooked or unhooked.

Funny... but in some cases being lazy may end up being better for your clothes! To each his own...

Just this week I decided I was not turning the shirts right side out again. Washed ,dried and folded them up and put them away. Hubby took a shower and put his shirt on, yep wrong side out... I don't think he would have even noticed had I not told him...

I can understand turning some clothing wrong side out... for adults. But I think for the most part it is better to have KIDS clothes right side out, because they can get their clothes plenty dirty or splattered with food or whatever. I don't think it matters with underpants because they often come out of the dryer wrong side out, same with button-shirts.

Everything is turned right side out.I hate having to do that when I'm putting the clothes in the washer.I also kind of fold my things in half then in half again.Seems like I can get more things in the dirty clothes basket that way and everything doesn't fall out as I am pulling them out to load the washer.I taught my kids to turn their clothes right side out when they were growing up.If the didn't it was washed and dried wrong side out and THEY dealt with it when putting it up.If their dirty,sweaty socks were wadded up that's how they were washed and dried! LOL I know,I was a mean mommy but they soon learned to turn them right side out! DH is good about turning his clothes right side out too and doesn't wad them up in the laundry basket.

Ladies, buy a little bag to put your bras in to wash them.
I always hook my bras together and one time a towel got caught in one of the straps and stretched it all to pieces.

I've used a little laundry bag or whatever you call it, ever since for my bras.

I've been washing and drying my jeans and hubby's black polo shirts and t shirts lately, to keep them darker, longer.
Hubby balls his socks in the hamper, but that's just so pairs get washed, and he doesn't end up with odd socks. Everything else gets put in the laundry properly.

How picky are you when putting clothes away in the linen closet? The towels fit best folded in half and in half again. When hubby folds the towels he folds them in thirds and I re-fold them. Would you bother re-folding them, or just be happy that he did it, and leave them?

Hmmm when I take off my clothes, I am naked.

Actually, I came back here because I realized we didn't mention drying the clothes.

I always turn everything back right side out before I dry them. All shirts and pants go on hangers; nothing folded. Socks are rolled in pairs and undies put in drawers. Hmm, drawers in drawers. :)

I guess I thought everybody did laundry the way I do. LOL.

And my kids and DH never left their clothes laying around; always put them in the hamper.

It depends on how tired I am whether I turn them right side out or not. Sometimes I just wait until I do the laundry.

I never put my bra's in the dryer.

I have removed clothing and put it in when starting a load of wash, leaving me naked (briefly).

I wash darks in cold water and Woolite.

My DH can do laundry if I write instructions, step by step -- and he can come ask me ten times about 'what setting', 'how much detergent', 'does this go in the dryer'. At least he did that when I was recuperating in bed from hip replacement. He has not offered to continue doing laundry, though. No surprise, and I don't think I could stand it! OTOH he's never asked me to *iron his underwear*, as the family maid did for him until we were married. A friend's new husband wanted her to launder and iron their bedsheets every day; his MOTHER did that!

Some things the care tag says turn inside out and wash, dark jeans etc are turned inside out. Socks are never balled up in my house! That irritates the crap out of me! (sorry!)
We had a customer that said she made sure everything was turned right side out before washing and still things came out of the washer wrong side out! ;)
It doesn't really matter a whole lot to me, what's the difference if you turn them right side out before you wash or after?

For many shirts, if you hold them up to the light, you can see enough coming through that you can tell whether there's undesirable stuff (well - just "stuff" of any description) inside.

Living alone ... if I don't like the way that things go into the laundry basket ... there's only one who needs instructions ... and sometimes that one can answer back.

I've heard that it's O.K. to talk to yourself ... but when you start answering back ... that's when you need to consider professional help.

(I've been doing that for years - don't tell anyone, O.K.?).

Reminds me of an old story. Woman was alone in the basement and decided to peel off all of her clothes and throw them in with the washer load she was doing. Suddenly she noticed a drip, drip on her head so she grabbed her son's football helmet and put it on.

Just then the meter man walked in to read the electric meter. He took one look and said "Lady, I hope your team wins!"

I don't turn things inside out to wash them, but I do get annoyed at Hubby sometimes for putting his smelly socks in the laundry basket all balled up, which means I have to handle them that much more to straighten them out... eww. If I don't straighten them out, they'll go all the way through the wash STILL balled up.
I wash dark/black colors together, and light/medium colors together, because I hate linty clothes.
