My favorite 'writing instrument' the last many years is Uni-ball Deluxe 0.7 in black. I buy them by the box/dozen and use them for writing checks, making lists, forms, letters, cards. They are at my desk, in my kitchen, my checkbook in my purse, in my bedside nightstand with a note pad (its the far end of the house and there is a phone there I need to answer sometimes ;:)

DH has them at his desk, carries one, has them in his truck.

I bought a box for Mom a couple of weeks ago, she has tremor in her hands and is self conscious about her writing and signature these days. She handed me her checkbook to write out a check for her and the pen from her handbag was so bad - she may as well have written the check herself for no better than mine looked.

That specific UniBall is getting a little harder to find, Staples didn't have them any longer last time I looked. I can get them at a local office supply and from Amazon and have done my typical 'stocking' up so I don't find myself without.

We have found the give away pens at clinics, garden centers, banks, etc. work the best. They must be cheap cheap as everyone puts their logo for advertising on them. They are all shaped the same but are different colors. All write easily and smoothly. We would love to know where to purchase a package but so far have found they only come in a gross.

I like Bics and the free ones are nice too. But I also like Pilot brand pens.

My niece is in High School and is at my place a lot. She brings homework and pens and pencils that she leaves all the time. She left a Pilot B2P and I confiscated it. It's the best pen I've had in a long while. You can get them with black ink and different size points. They are retractable and have a rubberized grip. Made from recycled bottlesa. Don't know about price, as I got mine as a "gift".

Walmart carries the PaperMates. Don't know if these have a name since I ripped the package, but they come two to a package, medium or fine point, smooth black ink that doesn't blob, rubberized larger grip portion and a stainless steel barrel. I'm quite arthritic and writing is sometimes somewhat problematic, but I can actually write with these fairly easily.

I have always preferred Bic medium point pens! It goes back to the dark ages, when I was a private secretary and took dictation for hours on end. The Bic pen is the absolute best for shorthand because it never skips and it doesn't "drag".

Let us know when you remember the 3rd thing!

I want to hear about apples and vanilla pudding. Don't care about pens.

I love, love pens and paper! I do like the pens that come in a clear round package that Walmart carries. There are 30 in a container, They are @Office brand that Walmart carries, and retractable. They come in red, black and blue in the same package with a rubberized grip and write so smooth. I love them. They're $8 here.

I had some smooth silver coloured pens, but my fingers keep sliding down the pen. I don't like slim pens either. It was a Cross, I just remembered.

I'm still mad at my grand daughter who lost my very favorite cross pen to write her name. I'm not really mad at her but it has been 15 years. I'm still looking for it. Before we sold our last car I made sure my husband took out the back seat to see if my pen was there. It wasn't there still looking. Loved that pen and the grand daughter. Now I use an old free pen from a hotel. Now that she is college I really miss her. Not the pen anymore. Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas list.

Who knew that PENS would be such a fascinating subject. Sure glad it is. I need all the help I can get on this, since the situation is getting critical here.

Among my (17) pens that had collected in an unused coffee cup here at my desk, I have Bix,InkJoy, Pilot and a host of unnamed ones, which as of now have been put in the trash.. What I'm using now is one of several of the same, small ones from my bank. Got to find something better. I'm going out tomorrow, but it will only be to Kroger;doubt if they will have much to choose from.

Wanda, the reason I never took Business classes in High School was because I never wanted to be tied to a desk taking shorthand and then having to type. That is also why I have to sit here and peck at the keyboard. I use the Scriptural method: Seek and you shall find.

About apples and vanilla pudding. I said I googled it; actually I meant I searched here for it with no luck. I even bought apples and a box of pudding just for that.

GM Mary,please don't be cross over an old Cross pen. There will be other of those, but not another DGD just like yours.

Sue, I don't know if it's the recipe you're looking for, but in my search I found a recipe for apple pudding. It's in the KT gathering place 1999 - 2000 recipes. It's not made with boxed pudding but with a pudding you make from scratch.

I've always been a bit of a pen freak. I prefer liquid ink over ballpoint ink--gel pens are my favorite--and I love click pens so you don't have a cap to worry about. Pilot G-2 is good. I also like the Pilot Precise Monica mentioned, and the Uni-Ball Signo.

Try the Pilot G2. I get mine at Kroger. Black gel.

Nice to know that I am not the only one who likes the give away pens the best. I have one from my carpet cleaner, my car dealer and a whole bunch from a local restaurant. They always give me a pem to sign for my credit card and I always keep it. I figure it is a marketing tool and meant to be given away.

I have more pens around this house than I know what to do with. Periodically I give them the scribble test to weed out the dry or messy ones.

Did the recipe call for prepared pudding or adding powdered pudding mix to it?

Sue, I love your Scriptural method of typing!! I loved typing and shorthand! I started studying shorthand on my own when I was 12 years old, so when I took it in high school, I was top of the class. I still use shorthand from time to time. (I was in an academic curriculum, but I begged the counselor to let me take shorthand and typing.) Back in the day, I typed 160+ wpm...with virtually no mistakes. I found it relaxing, and even when I became an Executive Officer, I still did most of my own typing (because I could type circles around my secretaries)!

No ball point pen or Bic pens for me.

Wow Wanda!!!

I took shorthand in high school and loved it. Even now I think I should just do a few words in shorthand to make it faster, when I'm writing something. I forgot a lot of things, I should refresh myself, on the internet.

Does anyone ever have their pens come apart in their purse? I've picked up pens that have come apart at the bottom of my purse. How does that happen?

This my new favorite pen. It was a birthday present. It is a custom turned elk antler with a Parker refill insert.
It is very heavy but beautiful and writes lovely.

I like Sharpie retractable pens, but they run out of ink fast and I have to order them online because I can't find them in stores. I admit that I, too, like the cheap stick pens that hotels and places give away. They always write so smoothly. I just don't like the caps.

Sue, this calls for Butterscotch instead of Vanilla Pudding, but would it possibly be this recipe? I love it after it has set over night.

CARAMEL APPLE SALAD

1 (3 1/2 oz.) pkg. instant butterscotch pudding
1 (8 oz.) carton frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (8 oz.) can crushed pineapple with juice
1 c. mini marshmallows
3 c. chopped apples with peel
1 c. dry roasted peanuts

Mix first 3 ingredients, then add apples, marshmallows and peanuts until combined. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serves 8.

Wanda, 12 years old and you wanted to learn shorthand? The only thing I remember wanting to learn at that age was how to tap dance like Shirley Temple. I did take the academic course in high school, because of not wanting to ever be a secretary. Paid me off too because my first real job was working for the Quartermaster Corps and the AGO in DC, where I had my first taste of computers. I was 18, fresh out of high school.

Salgal that is quite a PEN. I would be afraid to use it for fear of losing it.

So today I went to Kroger and, Rosebudms, you hit the jackpot . . they actually had the G2 Pilot PEN! I got a pack of 2, and so far it is better than any I've tried before. YAY!

I can't take credit for the Scriptural typing method. l read that somewhere and it fit me perfectly so that is one thing I have remembered.

And I still don't know what #3 was. Guess I won't ever know because OF TOOK it.

my favorite, all time pen to write with is papermate write bros. i buy them by the dozen. walmart has them and of course, amazon. :)

My favorite pen is a Pilot Dr. Grip gel. I buy the refills for it. It's a little on the chunky side so I don't use it in my purse, but it's my go-to pen on my desk. In purse, I like the Pentel pens, ball point ink, medium point.
