Computer woes. ..(Raven)

In July my desktop Dell touch screen crashed and we replaced it with a lenova 23 inch and it has worked flawlessly. This morning husband, for some reason, downloaded flashplayer and as a result, I have popups and even videos popping up which I have never had before. Also words on Garden web are randomly highlighted. Better surf site comes up at the highlighted stuff. This is driving me wild. We have Firefox. Any solutions to this problem. Thanks.

Better Surf is a malware add-on.
Go to firefox > tools > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). Run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes

Yes apparently what he thought was flash player was not really that but a malware infection.

Install the free version of malwarebytes, update it then run full scan let it clean what it finds.
Be sure on the link above to get the free version and continue with the free version not a trial version. You can keep the free version and update it and run it weekly.

Actually I hav very good experience with Dell. We use it at work (a Fortune 100 company) and also at home. I am an engineer so am pretty demanding of a computer. I have a Dell laptop that I schlep around with me cross country under uninviting conditions and it keeps on plugging. Dell is what I would recommend to anyone except an expert who can shop around and is prepared to do their own maintenance / configuration. I am curious that you think it has a bad rep. one of my good friends just got a new pc with windows 8, she called me pleading for help. The first thing I told her to do was go download Classic Shell, which she did while I was on the phone, it took about 2 minutes and she came back saying omg I have a start button again lol. It's a great addition if you are new to windows 8,makes a lot of things more familiar, nice for you while learning the new system. It gives you the option for it to look like xp, or vista and 7. here's a great video on exactly how to install and use it. Have you tried rebooting? Check for Windows Updates too. Another keyboard shortcut is to use the backspace key to go back, shift+backspace will go forward. Are you sure there's a page to go back to? If a link opened in a new window or tab, you won't be able to back up. Click the button to the right of the Forward button and it'll give you the recent pages history. You can also use that to select the page you want. Only other thought off the top of my head is, have you noticed a bunch of dog treats being delivered lately? Maybe Harry and Sam have been...

By the way this is one of the main ways some of the worst infections are happening right now including the ransomware infection cryptolocker. Never ever click on anything like a flash player or any update for anything on random web sites or pop ups only do them from the official download site for them or through the actual program by clicking on the update button.
It is essential to keep updated flash, java, and all adobe products because these are conduits to infections if not kept fully updated.

Corrine will always let you know when there are updates so check her site regularly.
Another good site to check for all program update notices is over on LZD forum we keep a list there that is constantly updated with all the info and you can subscribe to that updates forum and it will notify you when new additions are added.
