I am having foot surgery tomorrow

Tomorrow I am finally having a bunion removed. I have had this bunion since I was in my 20s. I won't be able to drive until I get the stitches out in a week. Please hold good thoughts for me while I am homebound. My freezer is full of frozen dinners and my laundry is done. I am going out now to pick up some videos and take Jake to the kennel to be boarded for a week or so.

Linda, I will say a prayer that all goes well. Remember that your friends are here to help you keep busy while you are recuperating. Take care, and keep us posted. Hugs!

Good luck Linda.

In August I had bunions removed from both feet and also had a calcium spur removed from the bottom of one foot. Had this all done in one day and was healed and driving in two weeks. I even went home after surgery and fixed breakfast for Mike and I. I wish all surgeries could be that easy.

Well, I got home Thursday evening. I spent 2 nights at the hospital in spite of having the surgery laproscopically and it usually being "outpatient". I am glad I did, the staff at the hospital took very good care of me. I am doing pretty good, still some pain but that's to be expected. I feel better health wise in spite of the pain. I don't feel nauseous and haven't had to run to the bathroom since having the surgery. I wanted to thank you all again for your words of encouragement - truly did make me feel better about going in. Wow, that is AWESOME news. Please let us know if it was the tic. The other day as I was using the "ladies room" my had ran against my thigh and I felt a bump. It was a tick! They make the area numb so if you don't feel the bump with your hand you would never know. It hadn't been in long but coincidentally I had been feeling sick like a cold (for the first time in years) and I thought of your son and it was really unnerving. Then a couple days later I found a tick in my dog. I looked them up on the internet and they're usually not too toxic out here in CA but they can be VERY SERIOUS. Well, obviously... ANYHOW -- hugs and prayers for your family and so glad your Son is on the mend.

Bigbaby, this is just my opinion, but I would like to suggest that you do wear your Birkies to get to the bathroom from the bed and perhaps buy some crocs to wear to the pool. Water can't hurt them. About the exercises: Before you get out of bed every morning, sit on the side of the bed and move your feet in circles, then write the alphabet with your toes. The doctor didn't tell me this, but before doing that while I was sitting up in the bed I bent my leg so I could easily reach my foot. I massaged the arch of my feet ( I had it in both feet )with my thumb and then just gave my feet a general all over massage. Once I got out of bed or when I stood up after sitting in a chair I stood about two feet from a wall. I put both hands on the wall. I can't remember if you have it in one foot or both. If it is one foot, put that leg behind you. Keep it straight and stretch til you can feel the back of your calf stretching. While doing this you will need to slightly bend the knee on the leg in front. You don't want to stretch that one. I cannot remember how long to hold that stretch, but I would say maybe 20 to 30 seconds. Do not bounce while stretching. Just do it slowlly. It will help alleviate some of the pain you normally feel when you first get up. You can do that stretch several times a day. I still do it occasionally. When I had PF I found a message board , but that was a few years ago and I have no idea what it was or where it was.Sorry I can't help you there. Linda

Could I just add to what Rhizo said? I had hip surgery 10 years ago and I turned into a control freak like you wouldn't believe, even I didn't know I had it in me :) I pre-planned down to a gnats a**, from stamps, thank you notes, books, foods I'd made and frozen, completely spotless house and house was stocked full of anything I could think of. I had lots of offers and other than one SIL who stopped by with a latte each morning after her gym, I declined them all and was on my own until DH got home each night. Looking back, I realized it would have been a lot more generous on my part to accept some help, people who cared about me would have liked the opportunity to do something, anything. Another effect my behavior had, when things arose where they later could have used a hand, they didn't feel free to call me after my flaming show of independence. Live and learn.

Nita, I hope I heal as quickly as you did. I will get two titanium screws inserted into my big toe so that it points forward again, right now it prefers to rest underneath or on top of my second toe.

Be sure and dvr The Monarchy on public television. It's a series on the Royal Family. I'm watching it, right now. and learning so much! Comes on Wed nites for 2 hours.

Linda I was lucky no screws. He shaved the bones down so they don't stick out. Glad to be pain free.

I had it done a couple of years ago, wasn't as bad as I had thought. Healed quite quickly.

Enjoy your frozen dinners and movies. Think of it as a vacation. haha
