You will be in my prayers for a complete and speedy recovery. You will probably have crutches to help take some of the weight off the knee, but you shouldn't require "care". I lived alone (in a 3-story house) when I had my last arthroscopic and managed just fine. I went up and down the stairs on my butt, because that was safer than trying to maneuver the crutches on the stairs.

I hope your arthroscopy is as easy as mine was. I had it done about 10 years ago and it was a breeze. Minor pain, I didn't even need the pain medicine they prescribed. Try not to worry.

I think you will find the relief that you want. I had knee surgery a year ago and also didn't need the pain meds. Just make sure you have the ice packs that are large enough to cover the knee area! I used one behind my knee as well. Sending you my healing thoughts as well...

Satine, thats what daughters do. Just the fact that you are conscious of making even a brief temporary change in her life shows you would not do anything imposing- it will be fine :) Better there than away from her, alone in your home where she's worrying about you and anxious as to whether you need something.

Best of luck with your surgery, hopes are that you come out of recovery feeling better than you went in. One thing about surgical pain if you should even have any following, you know it isn't going to last, its not nearly as tiresome to deal with as the chronic day to day ongoing stuff. Healing pain - almost welcome, you know its going away + plus they scoot you home with a prescription to take care of it. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement! I guess Im just a little nervous about the whole process. I know I will be fine and Im not concerned about the pain as it can't be worse than what I have had for the past months. My daughter and her husband will make me feel very welcomed but they are giving up their bedroom on the first floor and moving upstairs to the guest room. In addition they have two children 2 1/2 and 1 year and my son in law works from home. Lots going on but I am so lucky to have them.

Any kind of surgery makes one nervous, so I don't blame you a bit Satine.

My brother has had 4 of these surgeries on his knees. Just take it easy, keep off of it for a while, and do the rehab exercises if they prescribe them to you.

Satine, arthroscopic surgery could be one of several procedures, from an arthroscope to knee replacement, so recovery will depend on which you are having.

I live alone, and I have had several major surgeries and have always stayed alone, by my choice. I like the idea of not having other folks around so I can "sleep and eat" at my pleasure!

I did appreciate visitors after a few days, especially when they brought me goodies. :-)

My DD lives close by and was always in touch.

Satine I'm going in for arthroscopic knee surgery on the 26th. My left knee has been hurting for months, at first I thought it would heal up, now I can't even straighten my leg. I'm on Vicodin but it doesn't seem to help much. I'm hoping this surgery will help both of us! Good luck tomorrow!

I understand what you are saying. I have such a strong desire to be independent I hate to ask or even accept an offer for help. In spite of that if I was comfortable in my daughter or son's home I would accept the offer.

Satine, I realized that I meant to mention that two of those surgeries were knee replacements, several years apart.

Now I see your surgery has been postponed. Sorry about that, but it does give you more time to make a decision re whether or not to go to your DD's or stay at home.

Stay centered in the meantime, don't dwell on it.

if i ended up at my dd's i'd probably be doing dishes or trying to get the grands rooms cleaned, lol...take care and follow the doc's orders, although sometimes you like to smack them, when they say get up and go, lol...

i'd never make it at one dd's house...her toilet is almost like a kids in a grammer school it's so short! that's the one thing that has helped my knees..we have the tall toilet in both bathrooms...

I understand that your surgery is postphoned for now...keep us posted as to what is happening and how you are..
