Party pictures

My singing party last night was a lot of fun. There were 12 of us, ranging in age from 26 to 80. Four of us played the piano (not all at the same time!), and we sang everything from Broadway show tunes to Janis Joplin. The last song of the evening was "Amazing Grace." Lovely harmonies!

First, a couple of pre-party pics, as my house seldom looks this neat. My son stopped over earlier in the day "to bask in the cleanliness." LOL I spread out an assortment of song books on the coffee table and elsewhere to give people inspiration.

But not everybody sang. (And my kitchen isn't really yellow.) :-) Note fake tea candles "burning" away!

Thank you Writersblock...I will post some photos but if I look ugly I am not going to say is me, lol. Some guests are gardening friends and neighbors not on the forum... At least I am going to be giving clues about the guests that are from the forum, that is a promise.:) Keep watching till tomorrow when the id's will be disclosed for entertainment purposes only. And if anybody want to be incognito I can do that too,lol. Larry, is good to know that you are coming, bring the wife too, tell her that is always fun at the party. I made a fruit salad that has pineapple and papaya from my garden. We will have 2 sampling tables, one for the savory and one for the sweets. For those that are here for the first time, at the side of the house by the driveway, there is a gate to the backyard where you can bring big garden things or plants. Don't forget to name everything that you bring if possible... Silvia Silvia

Melissa is a real red-head like her mom. Jade, her twin is darker. They are fraternal and not one bit alike. Like that from minute 4 when I first met them. I am having internet problems so I can't upload right now but I will post photos of both for you to see. Thanks all for the sweet comments. I have a hard time remembering what to call myself when all the kids are around. It's "give Bubbe, I mean Nana, a hand. Come to Grandma, I mean Bubbe." Oy! The job description is Grandma but the names are confusing.

Julier - Here's what I believe is the original recipe. It includes the missing steps. It appears that Ann uses the pastry but makes different filling. Maple Crisp Pie Anna Olson / foodtv.ca Yield: 6 I like this dough so much because it can be rolled and re-rolled without toughening up or shrinking once baked. Ingredients: Dough 2 cups all purpose flour 2 tbsp oats 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces and chilled 2 tbsp sour cream 2 tbsp maple syrup Filling 5 Mutsu (Crispin) or Granny Smith apples 4 tbsp maple syrup 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tbsp butter 1 egg, mixed with 2 tbsp cold water, for brushing Directions: Dough 1. Preheat oven to 350 F. 2. Combine flour, oats, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter the texture of coarse meal. Stir sour cream and maple syrup and add to dough, mixing until it just comes together. Chill dough for 15 minutes. Filling 1. Peel and slice apples. Toss with maple syrup and cinnamon. 2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick. Slide dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place apples and all the syrup into the center of the pastry. Dot with butter. To Assemble Fold crust over apples in 5 folds, leaving some of the filling visible. Brush with egg wash and bake for 30-40 minutes, until crust is brown and filling is bubbling.

I ended up making raw vegetables with two dips (curry and lemon-parmesan); the KT recipe for black bean dip, but I used it as a spread for Dakota bread after ruining a double batch of hummus (rancid tahini); and baked brie with honey (Barefoot Contessa's recipe). My guests brought deviled eggs, a taco dip with chips, bruschetta with fresh mozzarella, and wine.

Beautiful home Susan. Sure sounds like a lot of fun. I agree with ML, the white haired fellow looks a lot like Ted Kennedy. Looks like my choice of libations too, red wine. :)

LOL I thought of Ted Kennedy too!

Your home is lovely and very inviting! All the food sounds wonderful and all the wine looks great! I would love to have been a mouse in the corner just to listen, as I can't carry a tune in a bucket! Thanks for sharing! Hope this starts alot more entertaining for you!

Ha! Yes, Tom is a good Irishman. And his initials are TK! He was a star in our local opera for years. I sang "Happy, Happy Birthday, Baby" to him at the party. His 80th was a few months ago, but I figured he still deserved a song. :-)

Looks like a blast, but I would need plenty of that wine I saw to sing, and everyone else would need pleny of wine just to listen to me, lol!

Susan - everything looks so warm and inviting. Even the antique sewing machine on the hearth adds to the atmosphere- it's perfect in your old farmhouse. I'm so glad you enjoyed your get together.

What's next on the entertainment circuit - an evening of Charades? movie night? bridge?

Your home looks so cozy and inviting, the food looks yummy, the guests look like they're having a wonderful time, and I'm sure the sounds of singing were delightful . . . what a great idea! The world has become so hectic, frenetic and chaotic ~ we need to go back to simple pleasures like this!
(and I might, if only I knew how to sing or play the piano, lol :)
