Yes to all. Apparently someone is sending items to your house, and may even come by to "pick" them up. Before any packages are returned to any company, contact the police to see what they recommend. Because the names appear to be the same, except the spelling is slightly off, it could be that someone has information on you and are trying to get additional information. If you have never dealt with these companies, I would not even contact them but do file a police report, and let the police hold the packages for evidence. They may not want to "bother" but insist.
Yes, check your credit reports, contact any banks you deal with, and credit cards. Treat it like identy theft. You cannot be too careful.

I'm all for contacting the company, and telling them you didn't order this stuff, but why are YOU paying to return items you didn't order?

I'd tell the company they could have UPS or FedEx pick the items up at their expense if they wanted them back. If they aren't willing to do this, just keep or toss them.

Mary, I'm not paying to return the items. They will either email me a postage paid return label or direct me to a website where I can obtain one. No, I don't think I'd pay to return the items. In fact, the first company came very close to saying that I might just keep the item. But I don't want that on my conscience, my record, etc.

My Credit Card company called that some one had used my card in CA, I live in OH...there were three charges that they did take off of my card. Next I got a bill from Mobile T..saying I owed them $152 for the account I had opened. I called Mobile T and the Credit Card and told them it wasn't me..it got cleared and I did get a new credit card. But this guy had my credit card number, my address and phone number. Scary

I would definitely contact the police. This may be a new scam they have inside information on, or you may be alerting them to a new scam. And yes I would check my credit rating.

I would call the credit card company and report the card as stolen. They will stop all charges on it and issue you a new card. Both companies can tell you what card was charged so you'll know which one.

Call the District Attorney in your city and they probably know if this is anything you should be worried about.

they may have opened a new account with a card that is using your name and identity and you are not getting the bills because it is not your current card but a whole new account. I would find out from the company the item came from what type of card it was and if there is a name and address associated with the card itself.

I would definitely contact all 3 credit bureaus and let them know what has happened they may be able to tell you if there has been new activity in the way of a new card issued on your identity that you are not aware of.

That is really weird, Donna. Did you check to be sure the credit cards used to make these purchases are not new ones made out in your name by the culprits??? What made the first company think this was perhaps a scam?

You need to put a credit freeze on all three credit bureaus. I have had mine frozen for many years. My credit cards can be stolen but no one can use my identity to open up new accounts.

You said "nearly" your name. Could it simply be a person in your town and the mail is getting mixed?
It seems so odd that the packages are coming to you. Nearly your name and not your cards, but you are getting the merchandise? Sounds like a not-too-bright criminal to me. Unless someone is attempting to establish a credit history and the merchandise is insignificant.
I wish I could think of the department you should contact, but tge name escapes me. I keep thinking FTC but I think that's wrong.

I was told if you have to choose a new doctor, call the DA's office they will tell you of any problems they have had. I have not done that so I don't know if it's true or not. I have heard it from two people.

Sheila Joyce, the first company suspected fraud because the name on the card didn't match mine exactly. The last 2 letters of my last name were missing.

I have not heard of a "credit freeze". I will check into that as well.

It was my card, when they called they had me check to see if I had my card and I did. They had already put a stop on that card and issued me a new one. Then the next Moble T deal started..It had my address with an unknown man's name on it. Moble T was trying to reach this man that had opened up an account with my information..My phone had a voice mail on it when I got home It was from Moble T explaining why they needed to talk to him. I called back and that is when I found out he was using my phone number too. All charges have been removed fom my account..so I'll see what happens next. I hope it is over.

This is how you put on a credit freeze. Do not pay any companies that advertise to do the freeze for you. You have to write to the 3 credit bureaus and they will put on the freeze. It is a one time fee. It costs about $10.00 for each freeze. Just know that even you won't be able to open credit in your name.

File a report with the authorities, it will help get a more immediate response in filing a report with any agency/co. and your credit score & report FREE.

Notify the three CREDIT REPORTING AGENCIES, since they are the clearing house for someone to get credit in a different area of the U.S. using the info they are practicing using.

Notify your bank.

"Last week I received a package in the mail."

If you are, indeed, receiving any of these packages through the United States Post Office, then file a report with them. They take fraud seriously when the agency used as part of it. It's a federal offense.

OP, I think you should report to the police right away and let them advise you on further course of action. DonâÂÂt take this lightly.
