Any Science Fiction Readers here? Help finding book

This is a long shot but I thought if anyone might be able to help me the KTerÂs could.

Back in 1979 my brother had a science fiction paperback that had on the cover a picture of a Witch, a wolf and a black cat. The witch had Red, Orange & Yellow hairÂthe wolf was blue and the cat was black.

I always thought the name of the book was Operation Chaos but when I looked online the book had a different cover.

I am hoping to find the picture of this cover. Does anyone recognize this? Or do you know of anyone who is really into science fiction that might recognize this?

No I don't know....but....I do know that sometimes when a book has a second publishing..it may have a different cover.

I have a couple books that way...one is older and they have different pictures on the front cover but the same story inside.

Is there anyway you can find out if it is the same one?

ColorMe, the systems have been funky lately. Interestingly enough, the movement of tectonic plates was embraced earliest by some very strange people of the Von Daniken ilk (but a decade earlier.) I read all those books and enjoyed them mainly because they gave me permission to think about things in a new way. Most of what I read I didn't believe or agree with, but for some reason the plate tectonics stuff held. So, by reading some incredibly stupid book probably about the hollow earth, I learned enough about plate tectonics to dazzle a geologist with my learning a decade or so later. Go figure. Of course I've also learned enough stuff that is dead wrong to cure anyone's bedazzlement. My vote for the worst non-ficion would be the biography Sara & Gerald, of her parents Sara and Gerald Murphy by daughter Honoria Donnelly. These two incredibly interesting and exciting characters (according to two biographies Living Well is the Best Revenge by Calvin Tomkins and Everyone Was So Young by Amanda Vail) gave birth to a daughter who made them sound dull as ditch water.

My M-i-L watches the TV evangelists-one that she watches enjoyed the movie, becuase "it is all fiction-not one true word in the book or movie-it's a good story, that's all." Another one was highly offended by both the book and the movie. What I find interesting is that in the first book written about the main character, Angels and Demons, the Catholic Church is the innocent victim-in the DaVinci Code she is the perpretator of all nefarious deeds...Brown clearly just wanted to write thrillers, not necessarily attack the church. But we hear little mention of the first book. Mind you, it was as much a strain to the logic as the DVC...how he escapes so many death-assuring situations without super powers boggles the mind.

Martin, If you take each of those hyphenated list items to indicate an "or" then I can't think of any thrillers that don't fit the description (I can think of many non-thrillers, though). However, if you take each one as an "and" relationship, then I can't think of any novel like it. Of course, I don't read much on the NYT bestseller list, so I may have missed it. Russ

I think there is a difference between writers we don't enjoy and a book being over-rated. I think some of Picoult's work is OK, really didn't like others, but I don't think her over-rated. She has a moderate audience but doesn't sell in the amounts that others do, particularly a lot of the sci-fi authors. There are many books I haven't liked that others have - The Secret History leaps to mind to mind. I thought it a load of codswallop, but I have yet to find anyone to agree with me *g* However, I wouldn't call it over-rated. JMHO of course.

No..that's not it. Patti you may be right about it being a different edition. I found the photo of the first edition and it is similar to what I am looking for. I am going to have to google Poul Anderson's book covers and see if it is online.

No...but I too had my hopes up. I am going to try to draw an example and perhaps someone could post it for me. Mind you...I am not very good with the paint feature on the computer but at least it might give you an idea.
