Ahhh, must be a Ânew thing to interview with multi people. 5 years ago it was just 1 or 2 people in management positions. IÂve been to 3 different interviews in the last 2 weeks & they were 2 1/2-to 3 1/2 hours long with 5-6 people! They ( management & co-workers) all seemed to ask the same questions in a different manner such as: What was a career highlight in your last position, what was the most difficult task you completed, what was & how did you handle a difficult ÂcustomerÂ, what is your best attribute, your worst attribute, describe how you are a team player, how would you handle a co-workers request to work for them, etc. Yes, even the same questions as asked on the phone interviews! IMO, it's gotten out of hand ;~)

I'm sure you'll do well as you must of impressed them on the phone interview! Bring a bottle of water in your purse for quick sips in-between interviews. 2 places didn't offer water & I can tell you, you can get 'cotton' mouth pretty quick with all the talking!

Many places now use what is called "structured interviewing" where they ask a set of questions during at least one or two of the interviews. Often they'll have more than one person there, they'll all write down what you said and occasionally will record the interview so they lessen the possibility of getting sued for asking inappropriate questions.

Highlights of your career past, special qualifications you have, ability to think on your feet, having something that the other applicants don't have, etc are things they look for and they try to get you to bring these points up.

How would you deal with__________, what have to done in the past in the way of ____________, what do you like best about your job, what do you like least about your job, how do you deal with stress, etc are common questions. I also have been asked a number of times, would you rather work alone or with other people? Or some variation on that question. If you had too much work to get done in a particular time frame, how would you handle it, etc. The questions are more related to the particular job. An auditor might be asked how they'd handle a massive shortage they find, or a customer service rep might be asked how they would handle someone irate, etc.

Occasionally they will have people there to answer questions you have. A bit unusual, but if they do, then it's a positive in your favor.

I would suggest you ask the people at the same level about training that is required & what opportunities for additional training there are, if there is a mentoring program, what they think are the biggest challenges for new employees, and other direct questions about the job.

I am in HR and I look for people who can make a contribution immediately & show promise for the future - a good investment.

Recently I interviewed someone who unfortunately thought they "had the job" and they proceeded to tell me & the others in the room how much smarter they were than everyone else. Perhaps they were (are) but humility is a strength - praise other people, former bosses, etc - do not burn bridges by criticizing former employers. This person did not get the job.

Good luck - be upbeat & try & make a real connection to the people you are meeting with.

We just hired a new manager and those she will be working with (lower level) were invited to join in. I was flattered to be asked and I think our director was looking for that team dynamic. It worked - we all have clicked and she's a great teammate!

I think the purpose of being interviewed by working-level employees is so that they can see how you would fit into the office dynamic. At least, that's how it works at my husband's office. A second interview with potential coworkers is standard procedure.
