how about a summer one to Bozeman, Mt? great motels, shopping, state college town, downtown has western flavor, and near enough to Yellowstone if you want an extended vacation out of it! Also great fly fishing near-by for the people that like to fish! I live 450 miles away but sure would make it down there next summer if others are interested. Montana_Jan

I tried to organize a forum get together. I spent months going back and forth with the lunch plans. The night before, the majority of the guests came up with a excuse why they had to cancel at the last minute. It was pouring rain that day so the I cancelled the party due to poor turnout. I would never try and plan another one. I hope you have more dependable people because I put in a lot of effort for nothing.

That's too bad Donna. I tried to get the Kt interested in Kentucky a couple years ago but no one thought it was a good idea. I was hoping someone would take charge, have it in a centralized state so more people could come to it.

I would love to go on a cruise, Glenda, but can't afford it for a few years yet. There might be a few who would be interested, though.

I have three weeks off in June next year and no plans to do anything yet, except relax around the house. I might go visit my great aunt in Alabama too, just haven't made up my mind.

Montana also sounds wonderful! I want to go back to Yellowstone so bad but it's too far for me to go next year.

Both a cruise and Montana spark my interest! I plan to go to Montana next summer sometime anyway. ;)

Actually, a cruise would be awesome! No cooking or cleaning form anyone involved. :)

I think I remember someone in IOWA saying she has a good spot for a get together. I think that is a great mid point area for everyone. This area has gambling boats with attatched hotels, a GREAT zoo, good shopping, restaurants, the Old Market.
But I'm also up for a southern trip. I've been wanting to come down south for a few years.

LOL Leslie, I think you're right! In fact, on our way out West we stopped in her town. I'm almost positive. Went to a little grocery shop for food and thought about trying to find a computer/library to see if she was around. But didn't.

I think it works nicer when it is a Friday evening,Sat. afternoon and Sun.breakfast like Sandy and Dean did....If you have a long way to go you don't want to go that far just for lunch .

But as much as I'd love to ....I'm not sure I can afford to go again. Unless it is real close.

donna i'm sorry your get together planning went awry. 10.5 yrs ago we at the gardenweb's garden party hosted the first get together for the chicago area, it was fabulous! i participated for a few yrs even after moving to orlando and it was bigger and bigger every yr. until things just got to be too much. those were wonderful times, i'm sorry the get togethers ended and wish everyone could have those experiences. things were quite different online back then ~ liz

Anyone want to have one near where they live? Near Patti so she can come too. We could pick a town, those living nearby could choose a good restaurant, sites to see, etc...

We figured on one in Windsor (south of the River, across from Detroit) a couple of years ago, and Dances was to be the hostess.

I think that about 25 planned to come, and many cancelled, so Dances was about to cancel, but some of us encouraged her to have it, anyway.

We had about half a dozen of us - Dances and Jeff, Anne, and Monica and (John?) from PA ... spent a number of happy hours together.

And is Dances ever a great cook!

I have relatives in Windsor and thought that I'd get in a short visit, but we were having such a good time that I didn't even call the relatives!

Shame on me!

And Dances and I took the kitchen-warming package to Anne a few months ago.

She really enjoyed the gifts and cards .. and the money.

I visited Pooh Bear a couple of years ago, and that was a happy time, but not a gathering.

I expect to travel down I-75 to the Asheville area of NC next summer, with a side-trip to GA, so would be interested in something along that route in late July - early Aug.

Good wishes to all for whatever gatherings that you can attend - I'm sure that you'll enjoy them.

Well, I do have to say that yesterday's Nor/Central California's get-together in Moss Landing (between Santa Cruz and Monterey) was a GREAT success! Aptosca (Clare), Wildchild (Linda), Fairegold (Helene), Sable, and I (Louise) all had a great time chatting for 2 1/2 hours. It was wonderful to put faces and personalities with our online names.

Tomorrow I'll post separately about the gathering, with a group pic as well.

Hey, Donna, could you come this far south? I wouldn't mind planning it if I knew people were interested in coming. It would probably be in the Lexington area, I'm not too far from Keenland (race horse track) and other things to see and do in the area.

I felt so bad when Donna's plans fell through. I saw her posts and had an idea of how much time she spent trying to schedule a convenient time and restaurant keeping everyone updated. It was a lot of time and effort.

Looking forward to hearing about the Moss Landing lunch.

It was difficult trying to work with everyone's schedule and choose a restaurant. After all that, when people cancelled at the last minute I felt very disappointed. I was hoping to make some new friends.

There's 3 or 4 of us around our area who could car pool. We could hook up with Stoney, Moni, Joann, and Stacy on our way south(these are just some off the top of my head) and form a caravan. And anyone else who wants to meet at some point along the way.

Where down south? New Orleans, La.? About 5 years ago we (garden junk forum) planned a get-to-gether there. So many were interested. BUT, 2 flew in from California, myself from Mississippi and one from New Orleans no one else showed up. We had a wonderful time. So much to do there and the food was excellent, great shopping. We have kept in touch and have become even better friends. Charlene

Sandy just opened her home...we didn't have to worry about a restaurant. I know she went to a lot of expense and trouble getting food ready for everyone.
We all took a dish...Denny and I went to their local grocery store and bought what we wanted to fix. That way we didn't have to mess with carrying home dishes. She just opened her garage doors and set up a bunch of fans...
That next day we all set in chairs in her back yard and opened our gifts....(Can't remember how that worked...we each brought a gift) I remember the one I got was from Maryanne TX and had lot of good Texas goodies in it.

I would so love to do it...I have a large yard and you all could bring tents if you wanted...
But I just don't think I could afford to do it now.

I just thought you might like to know how Sandy handled it.It was so much fun.

I've also seen pictures of some of the others and people were gathered in the kitchen (eating of course) what would a gathering be without food...

If you really would like to come to this area...I would/could do some thinking about it...

KT Gathering June, 2010size>!!! LOL A ways off, but we both had sooooo much fun when we had those 2.

So...you can all save your penny's and come to the corn fields of central IOWA!! We are right off I-35 and only 45 min from Des Moines airport!

We had so much fun having everyone to our home. Thankfully we have great neighbors and live on a corner lot. I still get people mention to me when we had everyone in the backyard waving while they brought their yard debrie to the yard waste area!! =)

I wouldn't mind having it at my house but it's not in any shape for company right now. One bathroom needs plumbing done, carpet needs deep professional cleaning. But I do have a pool that I'm getting a new pump for and a big deck. I just don't have any seating for the deck-lol. I have a sunroom where people could sit and a small livingroom. Hmmm. If I get all the stuff repaired I might do it if no one else can or will. I'll have close to four weeks off in June so that would be the best time for me. It would be better for people with kids too. Not sure about anyone else?
