The Saga of the Drapes, LOL

A few weeks ago I asked for help in finding pinch pleat drapes for Mom's living room. I finally settled on Wards since it appeared they had at least one of the sizes I wanted, a color I could live with, and didn't seem TOO expensive, relatively speaking. Pinch pleat drapes seem very expensive to me. Several people mentioned that drapes are usually measured across the bottom, not the top. This turned out to be correct, but makes absolutely no sense to me. How is one to know how much to take into account for either gathering or pinch pleating? It turns out that pinch pleating eats up exactly half of the total width. I ordered 4 panels, assuming that using the top measurement instead of the bottom, they would cover both windows. Of course you were correct and it took all 4 to cover the one 96-inch window. So, I had to order another 4, which I will have to "cut and paste", LOL, to cover the 48-inch window. That will take cutting one of the drapes to tack onto two others, leaving one drape uncut and unused. Essentially, it cost the same amount to drape the 48-inch window as it did the 96-inch window. As much as Mom likes them, if I ever have to do it again, it won't be pinch pleat drapes.
