I don't water the sages at all. They sprout when it rains. I just looked and all I can find are Silver Cloud sprouts. The Green Cloud may have come up from a root from one I moved, I don't know if it has viable seed or not. I've got at least a half dozen of the Silver Cloud that you can have. You'll have to dig them, though. ;-)

Hiya Kati! Welcome to the Forum! I trimmed mine back last weekend and they have already sent out new shoots. I would say if they are really monsterous, I would trim back about 1/2 as much as you want, give them a couple weeks, then trim again. Keep trimming them back until they reach the size you want them to be. These guys are pretty tough, just witness how they are chopped and shaped by maintenance workers all over the place and they still grow and bloom. I kinda like the untrimmed, but controlled look (not easy to get) and my husband prefers to bonsai them into little round balls on the end of gnarled branches. So, we have 1 groomed and one carefully pruned to stay within boundaries, but not look like a squared off bush! HTH Susie

Hello MG ... In general the plants are evergreen during winter ... it is not uncommon this time of year to see some yellow leaves near the base but remember to keep these plants on the dry side as winter moves in ... once a week for established plants is more then enough in winter here in Souther Nevada ( Sunset zone 11 ) ... if you just planted the plants watering ( a week or so ) will be a bit tricky since new roots need more frequent water but the plants don't like to stay wet ... try not planting near a lawn edge or anyplace where water will drain to underground they don't like to be wet ... be sure to really get out and pry into the root zone and confirm your water is really getting in and that it is time to water ... this is very important with new plantings in the desert. Mature plants can sometimes loose many or even all the leaves ... wait till spring and remove dead stems if need or the plants can be pruned down to the base if they were hit hard and died back a lot. They need nothing in the way of fertilizer out here in Southern Nevada. I do not know of any pest that bother these plants where I live...they do like a lighter ( more sand ) soil .. and do well with salts since there leaves excrete salt via salt glands ... there tuff as nails down here buy I manage several hundred in very heavy clay soil ... high in salts including Boron and Sodium ... when the heavy soils are wet and it is cold I have had many plants go into shock and loose leaves... quite a few have died. Get the Sunset Western Gardening book if you have not done so already ... check out your local extension service for free expert information ... How high is your elavation ? Jill, this is a cute story why I'm a Met's fan. My youngest son loved baseball since the womb. lol. When he was 7 (he's now 30) we went to the Mall to a sport's store. He asked the guy for a Met's cap, and the guy started laughing at him because back then the Met's were just awful. WHY my son loved the Mets, I have no clue. But his love never waivered. His classmates always made fun of him for liking the Mets. He didn't care! Then the Mets got really good. A neener neener moment for him. :) Know what I had to do? I called the Met's office and asked them if I could order things from them on the phone. This was before internet stores. I got him not only a cap, but lots of things! He put the Met's license plate on the front of his truck and someone stole it. I was livid.
