~Sigh~ Now I have to put everything back

After painting my basement THREE TIMES I am finally finished.

Between the grey carpet and flourescent lighting I had a hard time finding a color that looked good.

If I matched the tan in the wallpaper border it was too pink.

If I matched the yellow leaves (it's a fall scene border) it was too bright.

If I matched a horse color it was too red.

Finally I just bought the lightest yellow paint on the chip and mixed a gallon of white paint in it. It's still a little vivid/jarring but I figure when I get the pictures up it will look good. However, getting those pictures back up is proving to be a bigger job than I want to do right now.

LOL

I spent some money on paint but there is an upside.

The tan is PERFECT for repainting my upstairs and the reddish paint is a good color for my doors and accent walls.

I want to tackle the upstairs but figured I'd better complete at least ONE room in the house before I tear up another.

Why is it one mess seems to lead to another? Your paint sounds pretty--I remember seeing pictures of your family room. Glad you can use your other paint--more work ahead I predict ;-o

Oh, wow, what a lot of extra work for you, Lori. I'm glad you finally found a color that works. And now would be a good time to rearrange all the pictures and hanging stuff, shake things up a bit! I'd wait and only hang what you know you want in there for sure.

I'd like to see it when you're done, too!

I can't claim to be "expert" on any particular brand and I don't know if your Cub has a particular hardship "built in" (relating to remounting the deck belt), BUT....are you waiting until the last part of your "deck installation" to put the belt in place on the "pulleys"? I have always found it easier to get everything sort of "under the tractor" and try to hook the drive belt up first, then try to get the hanger pins/bolts into their respective mounting holes. You speak of "access to the hardware". You may have to devise some type of long "hook" or bent rod to reach in and pull the tensioner to a "slack position" while you work the belt into its pulley if the first trick I suggested will not work for you. Possibly a bona fide Cub Cadet owner/tech might give specific DIY info on your model. We have a few of those on the forum. Good luck.

I've found that edging really helps keep the bermuda out of beds once you dig up the grass that is there. Then you wouldn't need to disturb the soil so much because of the weeds and can just mulch over it to keep the moisture in. For my first few beds I used that roll of plastic edging you can get at Lowes or Home Depot, but I found it hard to work with. It always wants to roll back into a circle, which is a pain when you're trying to make a straight line. Though, I've read that if you lay it out in the sun for a few hours it'll flatten out. For the garden I'm putting in this fall, I'm going to buy the plastic edging that you pound in with a hammer (I linked to the one I'm buying below). It's made up of individual flat panels that you connect to form a line. It looks like you can pound it in deeper, too, which should be better for the bermuda and other creeping weeds. I can't afford to do edging for every single bed right now, so I'm just going to buy enough to make a perimeter around the entire garden. Here is a link that might be useful: Edging

Actually, I wish I had used roll outs for the upper shelves. I guess rather than let them clonk me in the head, I would stand to the side when I pulled them out (much like standing on the side to access any of the shelves of the entire-pantry-pullout.) I love the look of the systems where the entire pantry pulls out. I thought about putting one in our mudroom or laundry room but in each case, I decided the function of individual roll/pull outs suited my needs better. One of the best advantages of the individual roll outs is that no dead space has to be left between shelves for accessing items, as long as the glides are full-extension. Vertical dead space is necessary in a fixed shelf system in order to have reach room for items in the back--it's also required in the whole pantry pull out system due to the ceiling created by the shelf above that pulls out unnecessarily. Basically, it's a fixed shelf system with access from 2 sides rather than the front. I need to make use of every inch of our pantry space. With the individually controlled shelves, I like gaining the advantage of having no front panel blocking the front view. Also, for the lower shelves and drawers, I like getting a view from overhead. It seems when all the shelves pull out together, the overhead view would be restricted. And for me, the combination of drawers and doors works well because I often unload groceries from my car and plop the bags on the floor in front of the pantry. I still have access to the entire pantry except for the lowest drawer. A pull-out pantry or a pantry with full-height doors wouldn't allow me to do this. After almost 3 years of use, our doors still look great. If they did have scratches, they would be on the inside and I would feel it was a small price to pay for such a highly functional space. I don't think I would enjoy pulling out my entire pantry just to grab on jar or can. Most of the threads above refer to "pantry with pull-outs" rather than "pull-out pantry."

vaporvac totally agree although I did loose 2 our of 3 of my velvet fragrance roses even after 5 years. They were small cuttings at first, got fairly big then after the deer pruning them constantly they eventually died off. Only one left, its been over 10 years and the poor thing is still struggling. If its targeted it will have a bad year, if its left half way alone it can do alright. Having a new dog helps a little but not alot

I painted my bedroom a couple weeks ago,then i got sick before i could finish it.So i just finished it up today,hanging pictures,and all that.Still need to do a little tweeking,but i'm happy with the way it turned out.Have a looky see.

I have the room done. All that's left is scrub the brick hearth and rub some oil into some furniture I scrubbed clean.
There's some open spaces on the wall where I will hang pictures after I enlarge them. I haven't hung all the pictures in the hallway either but will soon. Its (the hall) is a family wall of fame/shame and I'm a couple of years behind. LOL. I found some great sales on big photo collage frames. Now I need to go through photos and fill 'em up!

That blue is called Beach House. I wanted something that reminded me of the beach since i live so close to it,and blues have always been my favorite colors.Sorry,no,LOL i didn't paint 3 times to get it right.There was a pastel pink on it before and the blue covered with one coat.It is the first time i've ever painted the ceiling the same as the walls,and i don't think it looks too bad.Dh helped me paint,so it went fast.

The flower pictures on the wall are all pictures of flowers from my garden,just blew them up on the computor,and that wall hanging i made several years ago.It was the first stained glass quilt i ever did.

Lori, I need to pain two bedrooms..I don't wanna..okay I don't wanna wash the walls, remove the wallies, tape and prime..the painting part I don't mind...

I've been putting it off for over 6 months now..but the boys are ready for updated rooms!

Terri,i didn't wash my walls first,then again i don't have kids at home.I just dusted them down,and they only took one coat of paint.I did the ceiling the same color,because i didn't want to do all that taping,and i'm too old to be climbing ladders.Ya do what ya gotta do.LOL,LOL.

Hanging pictures can be quite the job! Once you figure out where you want the picture to hang, the hardest part is figuring out where the nail should go! Here's a trick from a decorating show that might help you.

This is especially good for hanging frames with wire, though it should work for the serrated picture hooks, too. Once you know where the top of the frame should go, either mark the wall with pencil or tape. Then take a paint stirring stick (you should have plenty of those on hand by now!) and put a 1/4" screw through one end of it, but leave about half of the screw sticking out the front side. Hook the wire or picture hook on the head of the screw, pulling it taunt if you're using wire. Carefully line the top of the frame where it should go, and then press the picture against the wall. If you have held the stick so the wire is taut, the screw will make an impression in the wall exactly where your nail should go. Voila! No extra holes in the wall.

I haven't had the occasion to try this, but it seemed to work. Hope it helps you!
