That painting looks like it was made for that wall/drybar/light fixture...even the table blends with the colors in it.

As you said..it's only when you look at it from this angle that it off...Maybe it won't bug you with the future round table. I don't have any solutions. Just saying I don't think it's horrible at all.

This won't be a popular suggestion but do you have enough chain/wiring on the light that you can make a swag and then move it and the table over and then recenter the light? This suggestion only if you can't live with it as is. Cool painting, by the way. It's made for a happy social place. Enjoy!

If you REALLY need to center the light fixture, you can use a swag chain to move it. Of course that means moving the table too so that the fixture will be centered over the table. Personally, I wouldn't bother. By the way, the painting looks great - enjoy it.

Thanks KA- I really am in love with it. My DH even said to me (for the first time) "now I know why you loved it so much all this time". EWWW I just realized all the dust on the counter from me standing on it.. I guess in time it won't bother me as much, but I really LOVE the painting.. My first (and probably my last) piece of artwork EVER!!!

Thanks Weissman and byronroad for the suggestions- I think I would rather live with it the way it is than do a swag. but i am changing the fixture eventually anyway. Thanks for the compliments on the painting.. It is really putting me in a happy place ( aside from the symmetry (or lack of)..

I think a more flush mount type fixture would make the placement less noticeable.

I think we may give too much credence to symmetry anyway.

The painting is wonderful! Get yourself a nice decorative object, like a black candle holder or a cool sculptural bottle opener, and leave it on the right side of the bar top to balance the painting. You don't need perfect symmetry, but you might be happier with a bit more visual balance.

i think a more discreet light fixture and lynnski's idea of a balancing element are the fix you are looking for. though it's such a lovely tableau it really doesn't need more than a tweak to be prefect. congratulations on getting your heart's desire! and tell hubby he rocks for making sure you got it--he gets an extra smooch--at least!

The entire space does not seem to be very symmetrically or formally balanced, so I don't think it matters. Its not like it is one element throwing off a room of neo-classical symmetry. I think its fine.

I agree with palimpsest. The room isn't symmetrical, anyway, so I think you're focusing on something that is immaterial to the success of the room. The painting looks great!

I agree -- it's lovely just as it is. As someone says, it seems made for the dry bar, so together they form a nice visual unit even if they don't line up from this particular angle. I just love those colors.

I'm definitely not a symmetrical kind of person, but I think it looks fine. When looking at the room, focus will be on the beautiful artwork, not the light. Long way of saying, it looks okay to me :) Love the artwork--looks like it was painted just for your space!

Fantastic painting - I love it!

My problem is more with the placement of the bar. It looks too jammed against the left opening - I'd centre on that wall, and then play around with the placement of the painting, either centre it over the bar, or put it off centre (probably to the left) and add a table lamp, vase with flowers, candle sticks, whatever you like to balance the right side.

As far as not being centred around the light fixture - I would put that right out of my mind! Maybe because I have a situation in my d/r where the light isn't even centred over the table! Once in a while I look up and curse, but it 22 years here no one has ever said "Did you know your chandelier is off-centre???"

So I would treat that wall as a separate entity, dress it as such, and just enjoy that painting.

I'm so glad I popped in and was able to see the new artwork! It really ties everything together. Hmmmm, I can picture it with MY Typhoon Bordeaux, and can totally see it with yours and the rest of the space.

The placement of the bar and painting is perfect, especially with the outlets and thermostat on the right.

I usually am obsessed with things lining up, but the light doesn't bother me at all. The *whole* looks very balanced and I think the overall balance is more important than one thing lining up.

I love that you're going to have a little *happy sigh* each time you enter the room and see the painting! Enjoy!!

if you could lift the light fixture a little so it doesn't interfere with the view of the painting I think it will be perfect.
i do love the painting though and wish you so much enjoyment. I am SOOOO glad you decided to get it.

Move the painting to the left a bit, leaving space for a second item on the wall to the right--long and thin. A sconce in wrought iron with a candle? A custom piece of art?

If you really want to reinforce the space on the far end of the wall in its relationship with the table, consider mounting a frame of moulding in a rectangle that encompasses the picture and the vertical item in a larger rectangle that holds them both yet and is centered on the furniture piece.

This keeps the light fixture from having more power than the wall in the room layout.

My first thought looking at it is that I agree with sugar maple. It would bother me more that the painting is not center on the wall. I would ignore the fixtues on the wall and center it. Then center the cabinet under the painting. Then swag the light fixture over the table. Everything will line up then.
Try just moving the cabinet center between the two doorways and have someone hold the picture centered over it and I think you will see how much better it will look.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, the cabinet can not be moved as we have a central vaccuum outlet and regular outlet on the other side of the cabinet as well as the lightswitch and thermostat pictured above. not to mention the granite is in and the wall was painted after the granite and cab. install. I think I have learned to love it regardless and when we get a new light fixture which we will do soon it won't be an issue at all for me.. It has been in for a week now and I barely even notice the other stuff now..
