Why Should I Care?

My ex and I were together for 17 years, from meeting to the divorce being final. (abusive alcoholic) We had 1 daughter, Haley. He's since married another lady, and they have 1 daughter, who's a year younger than Haley's daughter.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, Haley told me he had cancer, and will do his first radiation treatment today at 1:00. She's going with him to this, to explain the medical terms etc. He's from Mexico, but became a citizen a few years after we married, and has worked at his job for about 30 years. She told me today he got fired last week. They said he can't do his job anymore. (?) He's not one to share the whole story if he shares any at all. So now he has no insurance, and won't be able to get any. Isn't there some law (maybe differ in different states) that they'd have to cover him medically, or allow him to continue his own coverage with the same company? I don't know what to tell my daughter about this, but I said I'd ask here.

Leslie
