Do you wear Nail Tips?

There was a thread about this some time ago and someone mentioned a good tip that was easy to use. I used to do nails many years ago and they ruined my nails, are the tips the same? Will they make your own nail very thin, or will they help with splitting & peeling?

I am using the diamond hard from Sally Hansen but its too soon to tell if its working.

It's pretty much the same thing to have nail tips done at the shop, if you buy them, it's just gluing them on....not a good thing for some one who doesn't have good nails anyway.

They glue on the tips and if you leave them onlong enough and have them filed down every time you go they become your nails and the tips are no longer there.I had tips put on four years ago and my nails are now mine.You must go and have them mantained each month to keep.

I missed this first go round too. I think there is good, classic jewelry that will never go out of style. I also like stylish costume jewelry but not the stuff made to look like the "real thing", like fake diamonds, rubies, etc. I love unique necklaces. I'm talking costume jewelry for necklaces. I wear earrings most days, but not always. Most always wear my wedding ring diamond set - although there are times when I will wear a plain wide wedding band. Always wear one other ring on my right hand. I have an emerald cut 3 stone ring that I most often wear but occasionally will change it up. My dad recently gave me three rings that belonged to my mother and one is a gorgeous london blue topaz that I have worn several times. I never wear a watch and don't wear bracelets that often - other than my charm bracelet. I do like an earring on some men, but it depends on the man. And one earring only. tina

Glad you brought this up again...I have been doing it for the past month and it is actually working for me...nail hardeners have always made my nails peel...I am 81 years old and this is the longest my nails have ever been...smell goes away after washing hands a couple times...Mary

No. This is just me, and I admit, I am odd. I have a very bad right hand....scarred from two childhood accidents...bad 3rd degree burns that more or less melted my hand, so I have never done anything to attract attention to my hand. Oddly, many people who have known me for years and never noticed it. However, even if it wasn't like that, I wouldn't have a manicure. That is something I can do myself. Same for pedicure....if I want my toenails painted, I can do that. And the real reason is, I don't like people I don't know touching me. Oh, I can get a haircut....I have to do that....but I want in and out as quickly as possible. I don't care how they cut it, just let me get the hell out of that chair. Now, you'd never know that...watching me. I can control my aversion. I am polite and chatty....I can act normal....but it isn't something I enjoy. Having a massage by someone I am not close to, for example....would never happen.

Nope, no professional nail treatments for me, either. Way back, when I was young, I often wore polish on my fingernails, and occasionally on my toes if I was wearing sandals. I've worn only athletic style shoes for almost 40 years now, so nothing but necessary clipping of toenails. And fingernails I trim as needed while watching TV. Have any of y'all tried a glass emery board? They are great for leaving a smooth edge on your nails, it's all I use now. When I was young (and slim) I always wanted long fingernails. I have no idea why, it was just sort of 'the thing to have', I guess. But no way my nails would grow, they chipped, split, broke, anything but grow long. Probably because I did so much with my hands. But now that I am older, and have no desire for long nails, they grow long, strong and fast! But I keep them just a tad longer than the tips of my fingers. Anything longer is just a nuisance! Rusty

What about gel nails? Do they put tips on those as well? If your nails are a fairly good length and you just want polish to adhere better and make your nails stronger, is gel nails the way to go? Any problems wearing long term like those that occur with acrylic nails such as destroying the natural nail?

Joann, I mentioned this before, the new shellac system. I have very strong nails but I have one that splits vertically right down the center. It is a pain to keep it patched when it is acting up, as it is right now. So I started having shellac done, it lasts 14 days and costs me about $30. I have a couple of friends that started getting the same manicure and they say that they are seeing that their nails are growing without the damage that a gel or acrylic nail would do. I get both French and color, like the French a bit more because it doesn't show the growth as much. My nails grow very fast.

I didn't want something as expensive as having them done, just something I can do myself that wouldn't do harm.

Haven't ... thus far.

I've been having trouble with splitting nails, so maybe I should try some ... but I fear that the fees ... plus more for maintenance ... would make my frugal hair stand on end (yeah, ole joyful's frugal to the hair-ends - [finger-tips?]).

Possibly they might be helpful in diggin' up some dirt on folks (but not so hot at diggin' in the garden) I figger.
