We've had it for about 4 years and we love it. We also came from comcast where I had nothing but problems for years with them. Finally got fed up and made the switch and I am so much happier with the change. Comcast was the pits in our area...we also get so many more channels with Direct for a little less in price as comcast.

We've always had DirecTV (since about 1995), so I can't compare them to anyone else. We pay about $55 per month for all the "basic" channels. We don't get any pay channels like HBO.

We've been very happy with DirecTV. The signal is reliable, and their billing process is easy and accurate. They haven't raised our rate in years.

We've had it for 6 or 7 years. Very satisfied.

We have had it forever...It's just great.

We've had DirecTV a long time, we were one of their early customers. My only complaint really is lost or poor reception during rain or storms.

We don't pay for the movie channels either, but we have the upgrade from the basic and pay extra for the local channels which adds up to about $60. a month. I think it is expensive for as much as we watch television, but cable would be about the same.

We also have had only DirectTV. Never cable. Signed up in 1994. We are currently paying $64.00 a month. That includes 2 recievers and local channels. No premium channels. Our package is called Total Choice. Interuption of the signal due to weather is rare and usually lasts just a few minutes at most. We have been very happy with DirecTV.

We had DirecTV back when it was Primestar, then DirecTV bought them out, so, a total of about 13 years. The biggest complaint I had with them was that the slightest rain shower and we'd lose signal.

We cancelled our service with them on Oct. 30. We had a problem with our equipment, I called DirecTV on the night of 10/29, the soonest they could get a technician out here was 11/8. That was totally unacceptable, so on 10/30 I signed on with Dish Network, and cancelled DirecTV. Suddenly when I asked to cancel, they could get someone out here the next day, too late! They offered me a great deal to stay with them and not go to Dish Network, but I had already signed up with Dish, and I don't do business that way.

Maybe if they lose enough customers, they will realize that they have to provide service sooner than 10 days out.

I have Dish Network. It is a little over $45.00 a month, for 2 receivers, and the local channels included. Like Lydia, my only complaint is the loss of a signal during storms.

Hi Sue,

I have Dish and like the package I have. One thing I disliked about Directv was that they charged an additional $5 monthly to have a second TV hooked up.
With Dish, the second was is no additional charge.

I have DirectTV and never had a problem with them. I switched to them due to all the problems I had with cable and got feed up.

It is a bummer not to have reception during storms though but I knew about the potential for that happening when I signed up for the service. That is the reason I never signed up for their internet package.

grammahony, You do not have to worry about the switchover. It only affects those who are currently relying on an OTA antenea to receive signals.

We had DirectTv several years ago, and left them as soon as Comcast came out to our area ... for two reasons.

One, going with cable service allows us a fast internet connection. Previously our only option was dial-up.

and Two, with DirectTv we lost service every time it was rainy, snowy or windy. And in Kansas, that's a great deal of the time ! They wouldn't work with us on fixing the problem, since they were the only option out here it was "my way or the highway."

Do you actually have 2 receivers? If you just have one receiver, yet it provides programming for 2 TVs there should be no additional charge.

A friend has 2 receivers that provide programming to a total of 4 TVs, so she pays and additional charge for the second on.

I have 2 TV's. The one in the living room has the actual receiver hooked to it, but there is no second receiver hooked to the second TV. The receiver (in the liv room) has an antennae thing on it, that sends the signal to the bedroom TV....plus cables too I'd imagine. You might want to call and discuss the charge.

I've had direct tv since December 1994. The house I moved into didn't have cable available at that time. I've stayed with them all this time. There have been a number of rainy days where the programs were interrupted for a while. On a couple of snowy days I was able to reach the satellite with a broom and sweep the snow off so the tvs worked just fine.

We love our DirecTV. WE have one receiver, hooked up to two tv's (and DirecTV knows this). They call it cloning. There is no extra charge for the second tv. WE also have a DVR, hooked up to two tv's. We pay $5.00 a month for the receiver and $5.00 for the dvr. But the tv's that are cloned are no aditional charge. The cloned tv's only receive what the receiver or dvr is watching. If you understand all that rambling.

We have had Direct TV for 10 years now. We're pleased with it, but I would advise you, if you live in an area that gets a lot of snow, make sure your dish is accessable so you can remove the snow. It's true you will lose reception during heavy downpours, but that doesn't happen that often (depending on where you live)

With these responses I would give DirectTV an Excellent rating!

I live in a Retirement Community (in a cottage) but I need to ask about having the Dish installed. They may not allow it. Everybody here has Dish or Comcast.

I talked to the DirectTV installer and he said if they don't want it on the building, he can put it on a pole. There would be a charge for that, but he also said if that is the only alternative, the charge would be dropped.

I would want that in writing!! lol.

I'm going to call the manager tomorrow and see what he says. I wanted your opinions first before I got to that point. Actually I'm thinking the answer will be No, but I won't know unless I ask. If it is No, it will be because if one does it, others will, and our little campus would like creepy if a lot of Dishes and/or poles suddenly began to pop up!

We love it! It's rare for us to lose our connection (big bad storm), and if we do it's only for a few minutes. You do need a clear view of the Southern Sky.

We had cable before and they always seemed to raise the rates on us.

we have direct tv and we live on a mountain where weather, well its totally different than in town, very rarely do we have a service interuption, now dish on the other hand..well the leaves on the trees the leaves off the trees, the snow, ice, etc...my friend would always have to come over and redo everything! no more dish plus ya always have to check and double check your bill with them! direct is different and cheaper too..im not saying i like what we pay but it currently supports 2 houses, which isnt illegal we checked, but dish network rips you off imho. go with direct ...ours works great...and yes boxes are 5.00 a month extra after the initial installation. guess i didnt explain that very well did i? ps sorry about the d's if they didnt show up, its sticking.

Sue_va, If you live in a retirement community they can get one dish and charge everyone for their individual boxes. That is how many apartment complexes do it. Maybe you cannot do that in your area, but maybe those who own/manage the complex do not know it can be done that way. Something to discuss with the managers maybe?

It also depends on where you live. In CA we got Direct without a problem, but then we had it on the 5th wheel etc. Could take the receiver back and forth when we traveled, but here in the northern tier, it is harder to get direct. Also we have a steel roof and the installer refused to install the dish and had to go with a pole. The satellite is in the wrong position for real good reception. He was very honest about it. The satellite is so low that our neighbors trees blocked some of the reception. We may get dish later as it works good here, but for now our cable is ok.

No problem getting permission , but I went back to Direct to confirm only to find out the only local channels available here are ABC, MNT, PBS and FOX. Can't get CBS or NBC so I won't be signing up. Their web site shows they are available but then you have to check the exact address, and CBS and NBC aren't, so I struck out there.

I guess that is the price I pay for living in this quiet, serene area where I can look out the door and see the Blue Ridge Mountains.

And that is priceless!

We've had Direct Tv for 15 years at least, it was when the little sattelites first came out. We did switch to Dish Network for about 2 months, we switched right back to DTV. I've been very pleased, as you can see 15 years later and we still have it!

Guess I'm different. Have Charter cable!

We have been way up in the moutains for 22 years. They will never run cable up here. First had a very big satellite dish, anyone remember those, then Dish and now Directv for about the last 5. I would check both and see which one is offering the best deal. We got about the same price, service and equiment from both the small dish companies. We switched because at the time our DVR died and Dish would not replace it with out a huge charge ($200), out of warranty, so we went to Directv.

Sometimes we have blank spots or the signal gets slightly scrambled or is out of synch mouth to words. But that is the way with satellite reception. We did get better coverage of all the major local networks with Dish then we do with Directv so might switch again in the future. We still don't get CW with Directv and I heard that Dish offers it. We got the next one up package deal from basic and have 2 receivers, 2 DVRs and pay about $70 a month. Every year it keeps going up.

I had DirecTV for a while and it was good in many respects but the cost got to be prohibitive. I kept cable and that cost was prohibitive so I I'm OTA and just got a digital converter. For me, it's fine. I've thought about going with Dish since it's about $20 cheaper per month than DirecTV although there's fewer stations, but in reality, it's all I'd need. But again when it comes down to it, I haven't seen enough on cable/sat to justify the cost. My cousin has Dish both in town and at the lake. Even he is getting annoyed by the nothing to watch syndrome!

I forgot to mention the other thing I love about DirecTV - XM Radio is included (at least with the choice package)! I love all these commercial free stations - whatever you like they have it - Country, show tunes, pop, rock, 60's, 70's, 80's, plus LOTS more.

to the person who couldnt getlocal stations..sorry but you have to fight with them if you get one local station all the rest should be there..maybe because im in ny and they told me i couldnt get it here either because i live to far in the mts hmm my neighbor gets it all!..and i said bs lol finally i got them all, at no charge because they are free ! read the fine print then read it to them..lol..be nice another laugh after all is said and done well it saves your money..the only channel we cant get here is wbng and that is binghamton for all you ny folks..and im about 65 miles from there, so the only way is through the internet. can you believe we cant get cable tv up here but i can have dsl??? and oh yes ...we still have one of the original giant dishes..lol
