Karyn, I am soooo scared of earthquakes. I felt 2 big ones ...first one in Romania a 7.5. It was about 32y.ago. It happened at 10 pm and if I would have been home and in bed I would probably have died. Part of the wall where my headboard was, fell on my pillow. I was young and I did not went to bed so early LOL. I was at some friends house when it hit and I did not know what happened. In the beginning I thought a war started. A friend of mine was begging me to run outside but I could not move. I was parallelized. I was like in a trance and I was picturing a house I've seen in a movie who was shaking and than fell. In that moment I realized that the house might fell and I ran outside. I could not see anything just a lot of dust everywhere, bricks and building material falling around me. It was a miracle I was not hit. It was a lot of damages, lots of tall buildings( 10 stories) fell to the ground and thousands of people died .I can not tell you the terror I went through until I located my parents ,my sisters and brother. We were living in different parts of the city. There was no light, no telephone or transportation working. We reunite sometimes during the night. Thanks God we were all alive, not hurt just scared. The second big one (about 7) was in California about 20y ago when I was 3 month pregnant. I was in a supermarket paying for my groceries when it hit. This time I knew better and I ran out as fast as I could. Lucky me I was not through the aisles to be hit by falling products and selves .I was closed to the door and avoided the crowd. Another big thanks to God that my pregnancy was not affected. The smallest earthquake scares me to death. Pat

SJN, Mike posted this under his bday thread..he's to blame, he started all this!!:) "1 c. flaked coconut 1 c. chopped pecans 1 (2 layer size) pkg. German or Swiss chocolate cake mix 1/2 c. butter or one stick 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1 lb. powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spread coconut on bottom of a well greased 15 x 11 x 2 inch baking pan. Spread pecans over coconut. Prepare cake mix as directed on package and pour on top of coconut and nuts. Mix softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. Drop spoonfuls of cheese mixture onto top of cake batter. DO NOT STIR. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until a cake tester inserted between dollops comes out clean. The top of the finished cake looks rocky and uneven like the aftermath of an earthquake. Leave in pan. No frosting is required - but since I like coconut!!!!!" I highly reccomend making it.

Whoa! That was scary! I'm in Dumfries, VA, which is an hour north of the epicenter and about 25 miles south of Washington D.C. I work on 3rd and top floor of an office building and I had just gotten back from lunch. I was typing away in my cubicle and I felt this rumbling...at first I thought that maybe it was a sonic boom or some sort of explosives training at the base at Quantico (they do that at times), but then it kept going and getting stronger. I looked to the man who works across the isle from me and we looked at each other like, "WTF is THIS???!! Holy crap this is an EARTHQUAKE!" Things were falling off the wall, potted plants were crashing down, the building was moving, and the windows were cracking. I never ran down flights of stairs in heels as fast as I did today! Our whole building evacuated and our company closed for the rest of the day. At home, I live 2 miles away from work, pictures had crashed off the walls, plates and platters had fallen. The kitties were freaked out. But nothing was lost that was valuable and everyone is o.k....shaken (pun intended), but o.k. I've never been through an earthquake before and it is not something I want to experience again.

I thought more experts would chime in here, but I think when you start enclosing a pool with something other than screen, you are now talking about an "indoor" pool and you have to factor in heat and humidity. A screen "bird cage" (Florida-speak) may be necessary if you find that you can't enjoy your pool due to bugs. If they turn out to be no-see-ums, you have to get a special screening material to keep them out. I'm fortunate to have enough breeze and far enough from swampy, mangrove, retention pond or preservation areas that I don't need a cage.
