Help - Looking for Gift Basket

My brother got married at Niagra Falls a couple of months ago. He and new sil basically only invited the parents and had a destination wedding so I didn't attend. They have no gift registry. I had thought my family was going to have a delayed celebration at Christmas, but apparently, I was misinformed. Anyway, I still want to send a gift. Db and sil live in New Jersy and are both PhD's. My brother does cancer research at a University and sil works in pharmecutical research and development for a drug company. I know my sil would prefer something consumable because we discussed Christmas presents last year. I've never been to their house so I have no idea on color, taste, etc.

I'm looking for some reputable companies that sell gift baskets. I've already looked at Harry and David, but I flat out know my brother does not like pears. Would you please give me some other suggestons?

I've ordered online from Wine Country Gift Baskets many, many times and have always been very happy with them. They have a lot of choices and a lot of different prices ranges too.

Hi again... I'm confused! The link above from gusolie indicates my purslane wants moist, well drained soil, but another response I got on the Name that Plant forum said it was a succulent and hated a lot of water. Should I infer from the two pieces of info that the plant needs to be well drained and soil kept slightly damp, or well drained and allowed to dry out between waterings? For now, I plan to keep it in the container, but may move it later to the sunnier side of my garden ("sunnier" being a relative term in my yard!). I have two more questions: 1 - Will this plant grow well in my sandy, acidic soil? 2 - Will it over-winter in my mild climate? (Here, winter nighttime temps seldom drop below 20 degrees, and that doesn't happen often.) Thanks for all the help, guys! BTW - let me say now that GW, and particularly this forum, has helped me turn my "sand pit" into a lovely green space. Couldn't have done it without you! ;-))

I'm not nuts about gift baskets. When I get one, all that I think is how over priced they are. When we've gotten them in the past it was stuff no one usually eats. Having said that; we get different ones each year from my MIL. Last year & the year before she sent Harry & David fruits which ended up going to friends & compost. Last year's had pears which no one eats. Another year it was a few assorted fruits plus chocolate which gotten eaten more but still wasted. One year she sent ribs which we did eat. I'm not sure where she got them from. Is there a local pizza place he likes? Having a pie delivered to him might go over really well. You can also add a few sides like wings, mozzarella sticks. If he's into sports, perhaps something to do with his team. My hubby likes Dan Marino, he has an online store. If you could find one with quick shipping, it would get there in a few days.

Wolferman's does some great gifts--their English muffins and other products are excellant and I don't think their prices are bad, either.

Like Angela, I too have ordered from Wine Country Gift Baskets many, many times and have always been happy with them.

My brother works for Harry & David and kept hounding me to try their pears, so finally, I ordered from them and much to my amazement, their pears ... tasted like pears! What in the world is such a big deal about them? Then again, I discovered Asian pears years ago and nothing compares. Not apples, oranges, bananas or plums. Nothing. ... but I digress.

If they're into healthy stuff, I've used Wellbaskets before and they were very well received. They have edibles and spa-like stuff.

If you choose not to give food products, make a donation to the center where he works--or to any Cancer center like the Mayo Clinic. Here in ND there are many places that make eatiable products. There are soups, breads, jams, jellies, cookies, candy, wines etc. You might go on the North Dakota sites and type in Pride of Dakota. Many of the items are avaiable by mail. They even have products made from Emu Oil and candles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ordered the Breakfast in Bed gift basket. It was relatively inexpensive. I had planned to spend quite a bit more, but I thought this particular gift might be a little more fun than some of the others.
