I just got a nasty phone call from the bean counters at the local hospital informing me that when I had my physical I had three tests that Medicaide refused to pay, so it was up to me to pay the balance.

The woman told me that they had previously sent me two bills and I had not responded so if I don't have the remaining balance of $1945 paid within ten days they are going to take me to court.

I said, "Lady, this is the second time you ppl have called me, not to mention that you sent two bills, which I responded in writing stating that I am in full agreement with Medicaide and I have absolutely no intention of ever paying them..You wanna go to court, fine, we'll see who fares best in that deal! But you should be forwarned that I intend to come back with a counter suite for fraud!"

The lady then asked me how I could file a fraud suite?

I said, "Listen lady, I ain't the brightest bulb on the tree, but according to your billing statement the three tests they refused to pay for are 1. A pelvic exam, 2. A pap smear and 3, a pregnancy test? Now whats wrong with that picture? Let me give you a hint,,,the name on the bill is Richard and the little box with the M beside it is plainly checked."

All I heard then was "oooooooooooooops, click, buzzzzzzzzz"

Good for you. I got a call from the hospital once and won the battle, then there was the "used up your max" or something like that. I called and told them if you quit filing on my husband for his ex, I wouldn't be at my max. I've never had to pay. My doctor's or their nurses tell me I have wait a month before my insurance will pay again. I wait.

Lazypup-that is a great story! Mine isn't as extreme but some years ago I saw a specialist at Boston Medical Center. I have good insurance so I ignored the first couple of bills since experience told me it some times takes another month for insurance to catch up. Then got a threatening letter, etc. Turns out it was a $500.00 facility use fee (in addition to doctor fee and parking!) I wrote a letter to the head honcho- I never heard back, but I never got another bill and I was not taken to court!

A few years ago I looked at a copy of my credit report and saw that a hospital in Northern CA reported that I owed them money for an emergency room visit. I called the hospital and told them I had never been in their ER. She looked up the account and said it was for my son's visit. I told her he was an adult and he would not request that the bill be sent to me. She checked further and found that since my son had not paid the bill and I was listed as next of kin, someone must have decided to bill me. She corrected their records and got the item taken off my credit report.

    Caughtcha!!!

Your November post about this very thing (resurrected below by someone else) stated you were in for a physical. So, which is it? LOL. Care to elaborate?

By the way. I love your descriptive posts so don't stop on my account.

Sounds about right. In 1991 I had 2/3 of the left lobe of my thyroid removed due to a mass. At the same time, I had my tubes tied. They only put me under once, and co-ordinated the drs. We pre authorized everything. Insurance said they would pay the tubal, done during exploritory for endometriosis, as long as the hospital itemized the bill. They paid the thyroid no problem. Well, I kept getting bills from the hospital saying the insurance wouldn't pay the tubal. I was on first name basis with the insurance agent assigned to the claim for 9 months. The problem? The hospital wouldn't send the insurance the itemized bill! So, after many phone calls and a collection agency (who had the matter explained to them nicely, and was taken no further) I walked in with my 4 y/o and told them that it would be taken care of to my satisfaction while I waited. If it wasn't handled by the time my DD was to be picked up from school, I would leave and be back with BOTH children. Gee, guess I finally talked to the right person. (I was nice, but not happy & she knew it). Told her if they had done what they were told to do by me and the insurance co. that they would have been paid 9 mos sooner, right after the surgery. She looked up the account, fired off a fax to the insurance company and got completely handled withing about 30 minutes while I waited. Now can you say stupid and hardheaded?! That insurance agent & I had some great conversations and laughs in the mean time, but come on! Why waste so many people's time, and the $ to go thru not doing your job?

Tami...Glad that lazypup didn't have the exams charged for! That would have been interesting! And not charged for them in the end.
