winter bags vs summer bags

I bought a Tyler Rodan bag at Goodwill. It looks as good as new. It's tan nylon with chocolate cloth and leather trim. It is lined in a dark green material. There are four small pockets on one side and one slotted pocket on the other.

I'm not as fashion savvy as some of you and am wondering if this could be carried in the fall/winter or is considered a summer bag. I would like to carry it on a short trip we have planned in January. The bag is a nice size and light weight. Would you carry a nylon bag? I like it but not sure about it.

I don't have summer/winter, just a couple that I like. Do sometimes carry a smaller one for a single event but have my other in the car.

I've never heard anyone connected with an organic program claim using organics is reason to quit bagging. What I've heard almost universally is the opposite. Go to organics and mulch mow. There might be some specific circamstances where bagging would be a better option, I doubt going organic would be the cause of bagging becoming the better option. Going organic will cause, inho, most of the stuff growing in your lawn to balance out in favor of the good healthy stuff for your grass. Watering incorrectly leads to more problems with disease and fungal issues than any thing else I have run across.

Sometimes you bag because there's too much debris on the grass - leaves, sticks, etc. Bagging gives the best-looking cut (better lift), but mulching puts organics back into the lawn as well as cutting the fertilizer requirement by 25% (the grass contains a lot of the chemicals you put on it and acts as fertilizer when mulched back in). The greatest advantages to mulching are time, energy and conservation - the time of the operator, the energy it takes to transport the grass to the dump and the conservation of the environment by not placing that load on the landfill. People that bag most often have big piles of rotting grass somewhere on their property under the guise of a 'compost pile' but it never gets turned or used. Mulching makes soil a lot quicker and easier than any stinking compost pile. I wrote here several years ago on the subject of 'Soil Accretion' where mulching actually over time increases the elevation of the mulched area. Even side-discharging will do the same, because a lot of clippings get re-cut and fall back into the lawn as in mulching. Look at yards in older subdivisions that are mounded up; they didn't start out that way. Even bagging leaves a good percentage of the smaller clippings. Did you ever notice when bagging that you have to monitor the bag closely because you usually can't tell when it's full by looking for clippings behind the mower? When the bag's full it's a mulching mower, and in reality it started mulching when you started bagging, although at a lower percentage that goes up as the bag gets more and more full, gradually reducing the amount of air that can flow through it, throwing more clippings back into the blade.

I'm coming late to this party, so please excuse what might appear to be "butting in." I have struggled w/Bloomstruck for nearly 5 years in my zone 5B CT garden. Only one of several of them has finally performed this past summer and it was a stunner. It's in a very protected spot (by accident) that has a source of natural moisture: practically ideal conditions. Even with all of that, I have concluded that this particular plant just takes a very long time to get established. And if the summer isn't a good one, chances of a rebloom cycle are practically nil. My Endless Summer Twist 'n' Shout is the best of the lot. Blushing Bride is almost flowerless most of the time even after a benign winter. They removed it at Coastal Maine Botanical Garden because of that. But Twist 'n' Shout always comes through for a rebloom cycle. The other one that is extremely dependable for me that is not a rebloomer is 'Lady in Red.' I don't wrap or protect in any way except to spray for deer and even after a brutal Polar Vortex winter, she has always flowered. In fact, she is one of the genetic lines for 'Bloomstruck'. The other line of rebloomers that have blown me away this past season are the 'Tuff Stuff' options. Smaller plants, vigorous, and dependable. But you are right to go with the 'Invincibelle' line. They are foolproof since they flower on new wood. Can't go wrong there. Plus over time they will form a nice colony and some of mine have self sowed around the garden. And I watch the birds over the winter pick through the seed heads. Lots to love about them.

Going by the References section of HMF, seems to be several opinions on the heritage of Thousand Beauties/Tausendschon & the Gardens section shows it growing as far North as Maine & New Hampshire. www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.6211.1&tab=7 The climbing Summer Snow came first & the bush form sported from the climber. I'm guessing it may prove hardy for you, especially if sited out of prevailing Winter winds in a South or West facing exposure - along a wall ups the ante. One book at hand from 35 years ago mentions the climbing form reaches 8-10' & makes a good pillar rose, but memory nags at me that I've seen it somewhere much taller than that, though I can't place when or where. Same book gives the flower size at 2-1/2-3", semidouble, cupped, blooming in clusters with semiglossy leaves on a disease resistant plant. What a rare & intriguing find! And Rogue Valley Roses lists Poinsettia as hardy to zone 5, so I'd give that one a go at that pittance of a price. www.roguevalleyroses.com/rose/poinsettia

I do not follow summer/winter rules. I wear and carry what I want. Here in So Cal people live in shorts and flip flops year round~~use it when ever you want;)

I have a nylon Brighton bag, which my son gifted me with. Love it with all it's pockets. I just changed purses as I use it as my cold/lcool weather purse. It's a greyish color and goes with everything. It's called an organizer purse.

Summer I use smaller purses. Meant purse.

I'm not really a purse person that changes with every outfit. Never have and never will I be one.

I feel good because I just now found the bag on ebay in black for $29.98 and I gave $3.38 for mine. It was supposed to have an umbrella with it but I don't need one. I love a bargain.

I looked at a bunch of Tyler Rodan nylon bags....very nice stuff! I would absolutely use yours all year round.

It seems like fashion 'rules' aren't cast in stone, anymore. I say, if it feels right to you.....just go with your intuition.

Living in the Houston area we don't have much of a seasons rule since we don't have a big change. I have a LOT of purses they are my addiction I guess, I use what ever one tickles my fancy at the time. Or if I am traveling and need a tote I use a big one and carry one of the smaller wallet purses in it so I have it all covered.

Go for it! I love finding great purses at thrift stores and goodwill/ salvation army etc. I have found some amazing brands with very little wear to new at those places.
One of those stores in Plano had a contract with Fossil they got everything directly from Fossil that had imperfections, they were brand new and on many of the ones I bought I never found the imperfection. So I have ton of brand new leather Fossil bags, I gave them to my sisters and mom, everyone had Fossil bags lol.

Good bargain shopping!

I carry a nylon bag all year - I have a Kipling that I love and a couple of others. I don't have a seasonal distinction between handbags.

Chessey24, I have 2 Kipling bags. I love them. I have a big one like a tote I carry to my Yoga workshops it has a nice big zippered compartment for my personal belongings and 2 open compartments for my books and goodies to take notes with. The other one I bought so I can carry my big camera around with me. I hated carrying a purse and a camera bag~~then try and take a picture. I got both in this beautiful gray color~~~I also love the little gorilla key chain you get with it;)

I carry a Coach leather bag that's a taupe color. Works for me year 'round.

I have a ton of purses no name brands, because I am rough on purses. I try & match my shoes & purses, but I do have this one black bag that I love so sometimes it goes with brown shoes...I am looking for a red bag to match a pair of red boots that I have...btw did I tell you Tony calls me Imelda??? I have a ton of shoes too. I think I have 9 pair of boots and want more!!!!!
