I think it's even more detailed than that. You can select for each person what kind of update you are shown. Then you can go to your preferences and choose not to see people's stories about games they played and/or block aps that you don't use that keep showing up with news stories. Tell him to poke around in the preferences/settings as well as "editing" that particular person. Unfortunately, there's no way to block some of the stuff, like "I'm going to bed now." And "I just ate some toast that didn't agree with me." Ugh! I hate these kinds of posts.

If your settings are correct the only people that can see your profile page are the ones you have accepted as "friends" If they are set correctly only minimal information is made public. You can also set it up so that your name won't be found on FB when someone does a search for you. Anne

Sorry JoAnn, I answered blfenton's question because here on Houzz, I have clicked to follow many folks and just didn't remember if I had followed her/him. I felt a bit guilty because I could have been someone creating anxiety to blfenton. I'm pretty sure that other than Sylvia, I have no crossover friends with Facebook, so felt no guilt or compulsion to speak up about your Facebook follower. On Facebook, you control who can follow you and see who is currently following you. You set your privacy settings to match your comfort level. If you click the down pointing arrow in the blue Facebook toolbar, choose Settings. If you choose Followers, you can see who is following you. If you wish to edit your privacy settings, choose Privacy from the left sidebar. You can see who sees your stuff, who can look you up and who can contact you. This is also where you make changes to only allow those that you are comfortable with 'seeing your stuff'. Obviously if someone cannot see your stuff (posts), they cannot follow you.

We have better luck on Nextdoor when we were selling items and now that we're giving it away we only use ND. Generally those people are only in your local area, but I have a lady who likes my antiques and she comes up from Cameron (I'm in Raleigh) which is about an hour away. We met over ND. I've gotten used to the nonchalant responses on social media selling. Some are extremely presumptuous and others are ghosts after the first engagement. If I want to get rid of the item, even a free item, I have to be organized, responsive, and respectful. I found that when people put stuff on an online marketplace they're lazy about it. I don't realize that you have to respond to people, you have to answer questions, and you have to be available for it to be picked up or at least put it somewhere where it can be picked up when you're not home. Pretty easy things to do but I understand that some sellers are bad at it. When I post things, it's explicit with lots of pictures so there's no doubt what I'm trying to move. I try to look it up online to see if there's any provenance I can put with it if I don't have it myself. I've successfully moved to antique beds, antique radio, three antique dressers, antique tools, and lots of whatnots and whose it's. As for the artisanal bread not being selected at a food bank, they weren't going to buy it at the store in the first place. It being free wasn't going change their interest in it.
