Okay, need to order preg tests for a research study.

If you have a teenager, would you mind asking her? Otherwise, which would you rather use and why?

(The teens will be taking these tests at home)

Pee in a cup and then dip the dipstick into the cup

OR

Pee on the stick (midstream)

(ignore the type in the middle, that one is not an option)

I've been part of a cancer study for the past 3 years.
Up until my last few visits, I've had to pee in a cup for potential pregnancy. All of us test patients do.

Even though I had my tubes tied 32 years ago. The most recent visits the nurse finally decided that my chances are getting pregnant are pretty slim, so I don't have to do that.

Peeing in a cup is messy do matter how careful, and believe it or not, there's a right way to do it. Start, then stop, then pee in the cup, making sure it doesn't touch any part of you.

I would think a stick is pretty easy.

No brainer for me....pee on the stick. It gets on there directly, ditches an unnecessary step, and hands will be (hopefully) be washed regardless of method used.

The banks know how to manage money! Most of us don't. And TV, whose advertisers want us to spend more than we have, doesn't help. The schools, who teach very little about money management and other consumer issues, don't help much, either. It's an uphill grind to convince folks that, as no one cares about their welfare in the use of their money as they, it's to their advantage to learn how to use it effectively. I was going to say, " ... no one cares about their money ... " - but others *do* care about their money - they want to shift as much of it as possible from the pocket of the present holder into their own pocket. If the current holder gets good value, and other financial needs, present and future, are provided for, then it may be beneficial to both parties to the exchange. Just one proviso - many people have been making quite substantialy inadequate provision for funding their retirement. Filet mignon now may be nice - but if it results in being forced to eat mainly turnips in retirement - not so hot a deal. Or foregoing necessary medicine ... or food, etc. As many, especially women, now are forced to do. Have a happy, healthy, peaceful, recreating and prosperous weekend, everyone. When you're retired - every day is weekend. And I've told a lot of people over the years - if you give me 10% of your income - I'll have you retire early. Not actually " ... give me ... ", for I've been dedicated to helping people learn how to manage their own money more effectively, and helping them do it, so far as they wish. ole joyful

Awww! These stories are so inspirational! Me-- nothing. I think I could learn how to change a tire, but the one time I tried (on a freezing winter night) I could not get the lug nuts off . . .man at the gas station wouldn't come out in the cold, so I had to call my then boyfriend to help. (He was very muscular, but even he struggled, so . . .) I used to play the harp, but I could never get it up/down stairs myself. That's one of the reasons I stopped playing professionally, because I hated being dependent on others for help. My teacher said it would be physically impossible for me to do because of my height. (She could and she was in her 60s-- but she was much taller.) I don't know if that is true. The other day I DID learn how to rewire a lamp. But mostly DH handles things. He is in a techie professionlly, and learned how to do many home repair type things from his dad and his own experimentation. Now that we have little time, I feel like I missed the boat to learn these things since he can do them so much faster and better. BUT, then there is my mom . . .widowed when I was 13, so she had to learn a lot fast, on her own. That was no good, either! My dad did a lot, from home repair to laundry to dishes, even little things like filling her tank with gas. (My mom was a big career person.)

A lot of people are picking up B as the better location, but several things you have said about A make it sound like the better location -- rising real estate values, $100K below the price of B but $200K less than the price of a similar renovated house in the area and an odd ball in terms of not having been renovated while the other is an oddball because it is "half-baked modernist." You can get into some serious money if you start trying to do a facelift on the exterior. I'd want to know I could give it better curb appeal as well as update the kitchen -- and both can get expensive. I do like the architectural details in A -- the transom, the window -- can't see a lot else. From what I've seen and heard here, I'd probably like the overall house and get more satisfaction out of doing it. I'm not clear from what I'm reading here whether you would be living in the home while the work is done. I wouldn't be able to use that kitchen at all -- I'd get a wash tub and use a camp stove out back until it was done. Better now than in January. The adjoined houses don't appeal to me as much -- maybe it's a Texas thang -- wide open spaces and all. ;-) Make sure the legal issues are fully resolved (final orders, appeal times have run, titles cleared -- everything). Do you know why A came back on the market? If it has to do with property condition, wouldn't that need to have been disclosed? Did someone buy it and decide they didn't have the time, money or patience to redo it or did the original sale fall through? I'd want to know all I could there. You may get a honey of a deal. Houses that re-list tend to not do as well the second time around, and this house has been looking for a special person from the start -- one with patience and TLC or a big budget for a teardown and the desire to add another multi-million dollar home to the neighborhood -- which is more likely with the market rising there. It's an interesting problem to have -- will be interested to see what happens.

To recap, Mama Goose's goal: Sell the house as quickly as possible (not rent it out - it used to be a rental) [But, not to spend the money on a full remodel, etc.] "...space to extend the kitchen wall 6"...to put a DW bay beside the sink..." "...expense of replacing the laminate countertops, running electrical for the outlet, and converting sink plumbing. ..." Assuming this would not be a "tear down" (and it sounds like it would not be)... If you're redoing the flooring and it will be decent flooring that someone would not necessarily want to tear out and redo, then I would definitely make the space for the DW now. No space for a DW would either be a deal-breaker for me or I would low-ball my offer b/c I would know I would have to do some major work to add a DW. However, if you sell it as a "fixer upper" and price it accordingly, you may not have to add the DW b/c people buying fixer uppers know they will have to do a lot of work anyway. No millennial I know (my kids at 22 & 24 are tail-end millennials or the next generation) would want a home without a DW. Face it, the vast majority of them grew up with a DW and see them as basic appliances (like a refrigerator or range) and would expect one in even the lowest end home.

hands down...a stick.

As a teenager, the first time I peed in a cup it was awful. Nobody explained what I was supposed to do...jsut handeed it to me. Wetness everywhere, a completely full cup (wasn't told how much either) Yuck yuck and double yuck.

I still hate it now....

Lol, salgal! There's definitely a learning curve, isn't there? I too have never been very proficient at peeing in a cup.

Definitely the stick. It's pretty easy to pee on a stick - I hate peeing in cups.

I can't imagine the type of research you're doing. It would be a stick for me--sometimes I missed the cup and that's a bummer

Odd man out here...From my experience... I'd prefer the cup.

Granted I'm not sure of your instructions... but if I recall correctly, with the sticks there are some precautions...like don't let the urine splash up on the stick past a certain point, don't over saturate, but pee directly on for 5 seconds (what if your stream changes?),etc... You also may have to worry about the stick hitting toilet water without even knowing it and maybe deluting the results. And, I wouldn't doubt sometimes enough urine may not even hit the stick. I would just think the cup may be more precise and accurate.

If there are no precautions, then the stick may be easier, but if there are and you need accuracy, I would suggest the cup.

I'd choose the stick.

I remember the first time I had to get my DD to pee in a cup. She was probably 5 or so at the doctor's office. The horrified look on her face was almost funny. I swear she thought I was crazy explaining what I wanted her to do. Similar to telling my 3 year old at the petting zoo porta potty that you don't flush!

Stick, hands down. Much easier, fewer pieces of equipment to contaminate.

And frankly, if a teen girl can't handle the instructions for a stick test, I doubt she'd be able to do the "wipe with the antibacterial wipe from front to back, start urinating, collect midstream until cup is 1/2 full and remove cup, then finish urinating, making sure neither inside of cup or inside of lid touches any body part".

Yeah, I had a yearly physical last week, and had to do the pee in a cup thing. Of course I can follow the directions but I'm not completely stressed out thinking I might be pregnant either. Pregnancy stick tests are simpler to use and to read.

Stick, for sure. Easier than wiping the pee off everything in your bathroom because of the splatter and missing the toilet concentrating on what you are doing!
