Had she been taking any meds that might account for it? Stomach acid is more of a yellow color, or at least it was for my son, who often vomited (Cyclic vomiting syndrome) for days on end, so I did see it a lot.

well, for even more graphic stuff...

my nose, and into the gastric system, sucking out
bile, etc.. and it WAS a lovely green! lol

I don't know what the green color could mean... other than when my kids get it they've usually eaten a lot of something with a coloring in it...like blue jello, green koolaid, etc... Maybe your mom has been eating a lot of jello.

Although I do remember someone mentioning that green could be serious (maybe the bile thing?? I don't know) so be sure to mention it to your doctor.

Also, you may want to ask the dr. if there is an urgent care nearby that you could take you mom to to get some IV fluids. The dehydration can be serious.

When you are sick, you liver releases a lot of bile to try to flush out the toxins. It's normal, especially if she is overweight or has eaten something very high in fat lately. The biggest risk is from dehydration. Make sure she gets plenty of fluids. Not eating isn't bad. Actually, your body heals better when it doesn't have to digest food too. You can fast for up to 40 days as long as you get enough fluids. Chicken broth is good, plus lemonade, which will cleanse her blood.

This is my cure-all. I make a large soup with tons of garlic and onion and chicken broth. Cook it all together for an hour, then drink only the broth for a day. I swear, most people who have used this have been cured of colds and flu. If you can't get her to drink the soup, get some garlic into her food. It's a very strong antibiotic and antiviral.

If she hasn't eaten and is vomiting and expelling bright green she may have a bowel obstruction.

This is an emergency. I don't think they would make her wait in a chair all day. They triage in the ER.

Flu is an upper respiratory illness. If she's been ill with gastric problems since Thursday it isn't the flu.

Hopefully, she has seen a doctor by now....

I spoke to the on-call office.

They said for her to do the BRAT diet....
Banana, Rice, Applesauce and dry Toast. All bland foods.
NO dairy. They said to try this for 24 hours and see how she
is. This will control the diahrrea. I think the BRAT is good to know, so we can all do it when the need arises.

She's been drinking Gatorade which will get her electrolytes up.

The Gatorade should help a lot. I remember when my kidneys failed, I was vomiting. No diarrhea. But the only food of any kind I could keep down was Red Gatorade. I think it saved my life. (For those that don't know me, I'm on dialysis and awaiting a kidney transplant. Also, if your mom isn't drinking anything, she may need intravenous fluids. Make sure her family doctor knows the full extent of her condition.

The Dr's office closed until the end of the month??? Does he have another Dr he is referring his patients to? I am so glad we have the medical facilities we have here, I've heard about hours and hours of waiting time in Emergency rooms, but we have had to use ours a few times and have gotten right in. I think making people wait is inexcusable........what part of EMERGENCY don't they understand. Geesh!!
Enough of that rant. Jasdip I hope you can get some medical person to examine your Mom, it sounds serious. I don't have an answer for you, but I hope you can find the cause and your Mom on the road to recovery soon. I'll be thinking about you two. Please keep us posted.

What Wildchild said- beware of a bowel obstruction. My dad had that and it was BAD! Can you get her in at a minor emergency clinic? They could give her fluids and maybe something to help with the vomiting.

I found out earlier this month that too much vitamin B will make your pee a florescent green but I would guess that the green poop and vomit are both bile related.

This is ridiculous. She needs to be SEEN and EVALUATED, by an MD. Now! If it turns out to be 'nothing', so what? That would be GOOD.

Ditto Dotmom. I am assuming your mother is not a spring chicken. Four days of not eating along with vomiting and diarrhea can be life threatening in an older person. Are you supposed to wait until she goes into shock?

Please get your mom to a doctor whatever it takes to do so.

not to mention in an older person flu can quickly turn into pneumonia and overwhelm the system and lead to congestive heart failure. This is all stressing her system in a major way. This is not to be taken lightly she needs to be seen and evaluated immediately not at the end of the month!
dehydration also lowers the electrolyes and can lead to heart issues(arrhythmias), drinking the gatorade may or may not work on an elderly person, this can get serious quick.
when they are in compromised health it is time to take the situation in hand and do what needs to be done, despite their protest.

I hope your mom is better by now,but I also think she needs to SEE a doctor,not just a diagnosis over the phone.

I know that the Canadian system is different that US and also depends on where you live in Canada. Do you have an hospital near? She should be at least checked out by a medical person. Can you go to another clinic?
You won't belive this but we do have Canadians coming into the US for treatment. Minot sees them and the Mayo Clinic in Minn sees them also. Could be the type of insurance they have

If your mom has been drinking blue or purple gatorade, that would account for the bright green diarrhea. I used to drink purple gatorade a lot.

I always heard thats gallbladder problems.

I wouldn't attempt to diagnose the problem, but I believe it is a medical emergency.

If your moms heart is racing & shes out of breath, ER should take her right in!

There's no doubt about it, your mother NEEDS to be seen and evaluated--with actual medical testing--by competant medical professionals.

Think about it this way. She's sick--very, very sick from what you describe. IF--worse case scenario--she were to go to the hospital and wait 7 hours, at least she'd be getting treatment in 7 hours. Keep her home and where will she be in 7 hours? Exactly where she is now, if not worse.

How is the BRAT diet going to help if she isn't eating (since Thurs) and cannot keep anything down anyway?

Look, if you're going to make a mistake with your mom's health and treatment PLEASE make it on the side of caution. Don't make the mistake of neglecting her health--that could have serious consequences for her.
