I'm planting a butterfly hedge and I'm looking for some help
Comments (3)Ok, so-- 1) I'm somewhat inland- we get more sun that SF-- temps regularly reach the 80's and 90's in the summer, very rarely over 100, common morning fog burning off well before noon. 2) Common butterflies in the area-- Western Tiger Swallowtail, Pipevine Swallowtail, Anise Swallowtail, West Coast Lady, Painted Lady, Monarch, skippers, perhaps the Mourning Cloak as well. All that's from other butterfly gardeners though, as I'm pretty new to this. Perhaps if Joe posts on here, he can give a more detailed answer about what we have around here. I'd love to hear if people have had personal experience with the bushes-- how they grew, how fast, how high, lots of butterflies? etc etc I figure you guys have got to be the real experts on that....See MoreSummerfield, I'm stumped! Do you mind taking a look?
Comments (14)I'm sorry I haven't been on here in a while. We've had some work things going on for the worse. Thankfully, I'm OK but some of my friends did not fare well. It's been crazy the past couple of weeks. I've looked at your plans and love what you've done. The one issue I do have though is that the plan takes up the whole back yard as it is b/c of the sliding over of the carport/garage. We had originally done the garage that way so we would be able to have a yard/pool and a view into the back yard as well. So that would probably change a whole lot for this plan. I like the front! Forgive me for asking (I haven't been that active on this particular forum since we're so new at this) but do you do this as a hobby or a side job? You're very very good! Re: the two desks. We don't really need two desks in the office. DH and I both have laptops and the kids will either use them or end up with laptops too. We will probably have one desk and cabinetry on the other side. Our kids could not possibly do homework at the same time in the same confined space! LOL! So given that information about the backyard, that's going to change having that master sticking out in the back, huh?...See MoreKitchen looks great if you look from far away-up close I'm crying
Comments (50)I just posted this on someone else's thread but I wanted to say THANK YOU for helping me find my voice! And making progress! The granite guy came today and fixed the crack. You can't tell at all standing over it. I can see it when the sunlight is reflecting off of it, but also bc I was specifically looking for it. Anyone else would just see it as graining. Granite guy said it happened probably when the cabinet guy was hacking at the trim he had to remove bc it wasn't right. This I can live with. The cabinet guy showed up yesterday. The magnet he brought to fix door wasn't the right one. I started to show him which cabs had nails still sticking out and he said he'd check all of them. Then he said ok I'm done. I opened a cab and said the nails aren't finished, I thought you were going to finish them. He says,"Oh I didnt realize that you wanted me to do that." Really?Really? I guess he thought the splintered wood was fine? So then he says ok I'm done. I'm going to run to HD and get the magnet and be right back. Then I went to check his work. He missed cutting nails in 2 cab and didn't finish 3 others. Well...An 1 1/2 later he calls and says he got the battery but needed to go home and he'd come back tomorrow. I told him he missed more nails etc. And... he didn't come. But I do consider it a small victory he came at all. And lastly, I called the glass guy and said it was really driving me crazy everytime I look at it. He said he was going to call daltile to see if there was anything he could do, but if not, they would have to do it over bc it was their mistake. Yea! So I'll let everyone know how things turn out. I really don't expect to hear from cab guy. But, it's not the last he'll hear from me!...See MoreI got a job. I'm excited (I think).
Comments (32)You guys are so nice. Tami, good to know cat litter can be used like that. I almost always have a few small bags of it in the car -- only because I usually buy it in quantity and I tend to be lazy about unloading all of it. Kathleen, I was thinking about "cold feet" just this morning. I don't remember such resistance to change when I was young. This change--my new job--is definitely for the better. Not only do I need the money, but I'm aware that I also need more contact with people. Although I love the idea of living and writing in my old farmhouse, and do pretty well by myself, too much isolation isn't good for me. So you'd think I'd have no anxiety whatsoever about going back to work. Ha! Sad to say, I guess it's true that as we get older we find it harder to change our ways. Foggy, my son lives only four miles away, so I could call on him to take the dogs out. I could also call on him to come pull me out of a snowbank. :-)...See MoreLinda Wayman
