My Mom's Famous Pound Cake Recipe

2 sticks of softened butter
1 cup of evaporated milk
3 cupc of Ap flour
3 cups of sugar
6 eggs
1tsp of vanilla
Cream butter & sugar together. Add vanilla & eggs (1 at a time) and evaporated milk. Alternate adding eggs & flour.

Bake at 350 for 1 hours & 15 minutes in a tube pan;

Isn't that more like 13 ounces of flour, 12 ounces of eggs, and 19 ounces of sugar, rather than a pound of each? I admit it, I like sweet things, so maybe weighted towards sugar is a good thing. Hm.

I have this recipe saved but don't know who posted it. Hope this helps Blueberry Cake 3 beaten eggs Â½ Cup melted butter or margarine 2 cups sugar Â½ tsp Almond Extract Â½ tsp vanilla 3 cups flour 4 1/2 tsp.Baking Powder 1/2 tsp Salt 3/4 Cup Milk 2 1/2 Cups Blueberries Method Beat eggs; add melted butter, sugar and almond - vanilla flavoring; beat well. Sift flour with baking powder and salt and add alternately with milk to make smooth batter. Fold in Wild Blueberries. Pour into a well greased and floured tube cake pan. (Wild Blueberries make a much better cake) Bake at 350 F for about 60 minutes. Cool and ice with "Cream Cheese Frosting". :----------------------------------------- Cream Cheese Frosting 1 small pack of cream cheese 1/4 cup butter 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar 1/2 tsp vanilla blend well to make soft icing and cover the cake. Oh my! My friends in Denver (I grew up there) think I talk funny. I lived in Atlanta and worked in the mountains of GA. They changed me! When I was having some problems with my newly installed F&P dishdrawers, I talked to Camilla in New Zealand. I complimented her on her wonderful accent and she returned the favor. There's only one chocolate cake that I make, and it's a chocolate-zucchini cake. The whole family likes it, and I don't ice it....just plain with ice cream is delicious. The zucchini makes it moist. Having said all that, I guess because I make chocolate cake so infrequently, I just buy the cocoa that's cheap. OTOH, maybe "because" I make it so infrequently I should splurge on good, Hershey cocoa. :)

I think I am going to try 1/4 tsp almond extract with the vanilla next time. If you add just a little almond extract so that you aren't sure if it is in the recipe or not, it will make cakes taste richer. I am making it again for my sister's birthday in a week. I sent her home with a sample after Thanksgiving dinner. She likes it too and suggested that for her birthday cake. Three years ago, she mentioned to me that she had not had a cake for her birthday since she left home in 1960. I was astounded, but I know her husband does not eat sweets, so I should have investigated. So now I bake a cake and bring it along when we celebrate her birthday with a girls' lunch out and gifts.

Rob333...for me it's like a pound for every bite!

When I was younger and could shed weight more easily, I liked to butter a slice of pound and grill in a fry pan.

What's really good? Use it in place of lady fingers for tiramisu. Oh my.

This is straight out of Mom's recipe box. I LOVE LOVE it when it first comes out of the oven & you slice a piece off & butter it. OH MY GOSH its good!!!

good basic recipe...but (wish I could find it) mother made a pumpkin pound cake with walnuts....her friends would request it year round....
