differnt twist to How Far Would You Go For Love?

I went from West Germany (it was still west and east Germany back then) to Oklahoma. How far did you move, because of LOVE?

I would have gone that far. As it turns out, I didn't have to go nearly that far though... 350 miles. From Minnesota to the Michigan U.P. Gary and I could have gone either way, but Emi was just starting high school when we met and I didn't want to move her away from the only home (area) that she'd known. So I said I'd make the move!

I moved from Seattle to Colorado Springs to be with the man I love. Best move ever even tho I nearly ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere Idaho in the predawn. I learned to stop at any gas station, even if I had a half tank of gas.

I make a homemade salsa that is really good and probably pretty healthy. Spinach dips and such can often be made with yogurt instead of mayo. etc... I generally don't cater to diets that people choose to but don't have to be on. Obviously, if people have serious health concerns you can have something special for them but sometimes I don't even understand or know all their restrictions. I think the key is just to have a bunch of food and a variety of stuff. I almost always serve fruit. A veggie tray is not a bad idea if you have a lot of dieters. Just use different types of dips and let them choose. Maybe shrimp, veggie pizza (light on the dressing), marinated mushrooms, wrapped asparagus or pickles, bruschetta, deviled eggs stuffed with spinach, hummus... Use whole wheat crackers, or is that whole grain, heck I don't know... water crackers seem light enough to me. Fresh foods and variety are the key words.

How do you deal with building inspectors that might go too far?

Has anybody dealt with an inspector passing something on rough and then failing it on final? My stairs have been in place since the start of the build, I have had several different inpsectors since the start of the project, all of which had traversed the stairs numerous times. I pass all rough inspections and the last inspector I had prior to this new guy gave the ok to drywall and put flooring on. When we finally got ready for the final inspection of the home, the new inspector (arrogant a hole) comes out and says the stairs are no good and need to be fixed. The staircase is three separte flights with two landings. The first flight the bottom step is around 8.25" and then the next three are at 7.5" , the second flight the bottom step is 5.5" and then the rest are 7.5", the next landing is divided into two landings and that step up is at 8", the next flight has the bottom step at 8" and the rest at 7.5"until the top step which is 8" also. I have figured out how to get all the stairs within approx 1/4" of each other except for the last flight. This is where there is a really big issue aside from the fact that the entire house is drywalled, painted flooring installed and that issue is that within the area of the top step of the stairs is countless electrical runs along with minisplit lines and some water lines for radiant floor. Any suggestions? There were a few other problem areas that the inspector mentioned not in relation to the stairs which have all been remedied. Upon reviewing the inspection results on the counties website, this last inspector passed the rough framing inspection (which had been approved before just had not been signed off on the card itself) and then states on the final inspection results that the stairs are no good.

I think it's a great idea. My pantry has a fixture I found at an antique store. It was in the foyer in our last home. The top shelf - which is too high to reach - has my collection of rustic birdhouses. I also have an old heart shaped wooden butter mold and copper pans on the walls. There is a wooden National Biscuit Company (aka NABISCO) sign hanging inside above the door. I don't line the inside of drawers, but DD1 does. She is a huge Shabby Chic fan and their pieces are always lined with vintage or vintage looking paper. In one rental, she lined the walls of a small closet with paper. In another rental, her walk-in closet was so large she made it a guest room with a cot, rug, dresser, pictures and accessories. Our MBR closet is walk-in with double french doors, two small ORB chandeliers and we each have a three drawer dresser with bookshelves above. DH puts current books, leather storage containers on his and mine has a few containers plus things from traveling and family items. We each have an old windsor chair with artwork above. Unless the sink and non-cook usage areas are also part of the conversation, the logic of anybody's refrig placement is not clear. How far would you hike from anywhere to get an ice cube or a hunk of cheese? Listening to others (above) moves me add to my posting about the 12 foot trot from range to refrig at my place. I realize now that at our place the triangle is redefined as a trapezoid by the microwave which in our household acts as a second range opposite the first range. Additionally, "plunk space" is as important as any other part of the geometry. Without space for items to sit temporarily near the refrig, the refrig is a difficult appliance to use at all, unless you're an octopus. And work space must figure into the picture--what is the path of a tomato from purchase (or garden) to the stew pot in your house? Is it direct or in stages and is the refrig involved? As I said, I don't use many canned goods, etc but they're stored next to range, so I don't have the long pantry run that some others have. I have flour and such very near range in a baking station area. Except for eggs, bacon, butter/marg, milk, wine, most of my refrig ingredients destined for use at range just take a trip to a sink and prep area, then are transferred to the range zone afterward. That is probably why I don't commute directly between range and refrig very often. On the other hand, an unimpeded commute between seating areas and refrig is very important to me. Condiments, beverages, marg, cold foods--no need to go near range. Salads of fresh ingredients are prepared at prep sink close to refrig.--a big deal at our house. Microwave is quite near refrig so leftovers go there and then to table. If the refrig were positioned any deeper into my kitchen, it would make life very hard for grocery delivery, servicing the table, stashing cleaned produce from garden, working at sandwich/breakfast prep portion of countertop, and general access to iced tea or ice or beer when the spirit moves. All summer I haul stuff across the entire width of the house from refrig and peninsula to the deck at back of house and back again. (Yes, this is a stupidly designed house, but I won't go into that. We've done the best we can with what we have.)

I went from Texas to Massacusetts to be with Jan, then circumstances separated us for about 30 years and 15 months ago I moved from Ohio to be with her, which is where I intend to stay now....

The first time - about 30 miles.
This last time - more like 5 miles.

But, a move is a move. A move away from what and where you are comfortable.

New Orleans to Tucson, Arizona. Marriage didn't last but my love of Arizona did. I'm still here!

Lazypup, yes, I was a German. :)

I moved more than that.

After the initial move I moved 130 mile, then 180 miles, then 75 miles, then 98 miles.

After all that, I decided he wasn't worth it, and I moved again, solo this time, 5 miles, 17 miles, 8 miles, 5 miles.... and am hoping to find a house soon, to quit this moving business!

I moved from Western New York to Long Island (450 miles) to marry my first husband.
My parents warned me not to marry him, turns out they were right. Once we split (separated, before the divorce) I felt terribly lost, because my family was so far away.

i moved from southern Delaware to Western New York to be with the man i love. i drove that almost 500 miles on the hottest day of the year in june 2010, with no air conditioning in my car. i would do it all over again in a heartbeat!! ;)

I wouldn't move to the next chair for that loser, emotional abuser, lazy thing. Sleeps all day, calls ME a b#%^&, and threatens to "knock my head off". I wish he would, then I can get him out of here. I'm through, done, finished with him.

After moving from Des Moines to Ames for a couple of years' training in hospital food service, Sue transferred to Cornell, as she thought that she'd like to find work in the eastern sates and that their recruiters'd be more enthused about a Cornell Grad: they and Iowa State agreed as to who were number one and two in that game in the U.S., but didn't quite agree on the relative ranking of those two.

On recommendation of our mission Board, I was taking a one-year course in adult ed. at Cornell, and we met on a blind date - and she wasn't my date.

We spent some time together and there was talk of marriage prior to my return to Korea, Sue having completed three years of a four-year course ... but I'd seen my mother become ill when I was about 6, and thousands of familes disrupted due to the refugee situation in Korea, so said that she should stay to finish her degree ... which she did.

Then took ship to (South) Korea and we were married there, with no member of either family attending.

Lasted some over 11 years, it did.

Two kids, one born in Korea (the Japanese shop girls loved his fine, flaxen hair at age about 20 mos., en route back to N.America). Now they've achieved, or are closing in on, the ripe old age of 50.

No grands ... though son sort of has a couple, more or less by proxy.

First from No California to So. California (USMC base).... then so many places that in hindsight were the most remarkable 24 years one could experience. I say "hindsight" because those moves were never easy, the distances very far and sometimes very scary, but....I love having "rose colored glasses" and being able to not remember the bad as well as the wonders we saw and the wonderful we experienced.. My memories are the best and I am thankful every day.

dedtired, I hope, I won't feel the same in a few years. At this time, I plan to hang around here. I think, I have a better chance to see my daughter and her family more often this way. Her sis, and her dad live nearby.

Anyhow, that is the reason I am hanging around here.
