Speaking of movies...

yesterday someone asked "What's the worse movie you've ever seen?...so I thought I'd ask this one..

What's the movie you can watch over and over again and never seem to tire of...I have several but one is on tv right now and that's "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long...anyone who's ever owned a home...thought about buying an older home...or remodeling a home should watch this movie...of course the antics are high and Tom Hanks does an excellent job of the Helpless Hunk...

So What's your Favorite watch over and over movie?

Yes, I encourage all of you to bring ear plugs! I use inexpensive foam rubber ones. I also use them for lawn mowing, grinding almonds in the food processor, and whenever live music is too loud. I buy them at Walmart or a drug store, or even DollarTree. But on a another note - did you enjoy the movie? Surprisingly, I did. I never would have chosen that movie, nor would my friend. But we had a window of opportunity, and this movie was playing at the right time and place. It's definitely not for everyone--nudity, some brief sex, and violence. Lots of violence, but done in a cartoonish manner so that there's no blood to speak of. I shut my eyes only a couple of times, and that's not a lot for me. Both of us felt it was entertaining. I didn't expect it to be so amusing--quite funny at times. The simulated sex was also cartoonish, more comical than sexy. I loved the grainy, grungy black & white photography. It was fun IDing the famous cast members. I never did figure out which one was Lady Gaga. After those wretched previews, I expected to suffer through the movie. But it held my attention, and I looked at my watch only once. (That's not a lot for me either.) :-)

It seems to me that Hollywood only makes three movies these days: The movie about running real fast and engaging in physically impossible acrobatics while things blow up all around. The fart joke movie. The dysfunctional relationships movie, which has two variants: pseudo-inspirational and frankly depressing. Of course, these can be combined, as for instance, in the upcoming remake of Murder on the Orient Express which seems to combine Hercule Poirot, superhero, with the most dreary-looking trainload of miserable people you ever saw. So I just don't go. The suggestion to go to an art house is clearly made by people who live in very major metro areas. I live just north of a major metro area, but still about 90% of the movies I might possibly wish to see do not play within 150 miles of where I live. I see about one movie a year in the theater. Unfortunately, I do keep up with what's current when visiting my brother who has every known streaming service. I'm astounded at how fatiguing it is to try to be entertained.

I have eclectic tastes in books and film that run to the dark, but not necessarily comedic. I enjoyed "Shape of Water," though felt it was overrated. I have never seen Heathers, Drop Dead Gorgeous, or Bad Santa. The last movie that I thought was deeply beautiful (and dark) was the Korean movie "Burning." I also thought "Roma" and "Cold War" were very good. Those are not comedic by any stretch, but rather mysterious and moving (I found). I have difficulty finding anyone who shares my taste in film, except for my son (who is a film editor)—we go out to the movies together and enjoy our ensuing lively discussions. In "The Favourite," I found so much that was funny. The way the director contrasted modern sensibilities with the mannered behavior of the era made a heady, peculiar mix that I thought was delightful and shocking. This is not your mother's period piece, by a long shot. But at bottom, the power plays, the treachery, the self-interest all felt authentic in spirit, or at least what I imagine those times must have been like, adjacent to royalty.

I can't believe "Steel Magnolias" hasn't been mentioned yet.

Another of mine "Spitfire Grill" I haven't seen it in years, so I'm not sure about the name, but I loved it and would like to see it again.

The two movies I've probably watched more than any others are similar in a way. They are Dances With Wolves, and Legends of the Fall. Both have great cinematography, and a great script with a lot of action, romance and happiness, death and sadness, a bit of humor and eye candy by way of Kevin Costner and Brad Pitt in their prime!

The Money Pit would be at the top of the list! No idea how many times I've seen it.

I like the OLD movies so much more than the new ones.

The original Frankenstein movies, Florian, National Velvet, Spellbound, Gaslight, The Man in the Iron Mask, Rebecca, etc,etc. and any and all with Richard Chamberlain.

Wildchild....I have "Shirley Valentine" on VCR. I have never known anyone else who has seen it. I watched it not too long ago. Good movie!

I loved Shirley Valentine. Had forgotten all about that one.

My favorite movie is The Sheltering Sky. I also love The Piano, Seven Years in Tibet, Everything's Illuminated, Out of Africa and I have seen the documentary, Grey Gardens at least 20 times.

With the mention of Shirley Valentine I had to look up the star Pauline Collins. I loved her TV work in British shows,. I'm glad to see she is still active
