Was it mine you saw, Melissa? I got it as a gift and I like it a lot. As I remember I got a nice division and it was a good grower... I put it in the novelty category as it is one of the small group of hostas with a genetic quirk that results in puckering in only part of the leaf. Embroidery is the most dramatic example of this trait - and depending on your point of view can be dramatic or downright ugly... Emerald Necklace is another with a puckered edge and smooth center resulting in a strikingly shaped and colored leaf form. MMA is more dramatic in its twisted leaf shapes, EN is less twisted but displayes the corrugated-margin, smooth center more dramatically. I think they are both fine plants. I'm sure there are others, but these are the only three I know that have the trait of corrugation in only one zone of the leaf. Perhaps folks can point out some others. Oddly enough, Zilis in the Hostapedia makes the connection between EN and Embroidery, but on MMA he notes the corrugation being only in the marginal areas but doesn't draw the connection to the other two.

I have a couple of those as well that I haven't pruned at all for 5 or 6 years. They slowly grow, at least on the north side of a building with a lot of competition from other bushes and trees. I don't think I've ever seen one that grew quickly, but I wouldn't know. I sorta doubt they are ever going to grow quickly in this dry climate. Re pruning, I would prune it if you want to shape it into something more manageable, and do it any time you feel like. The bush is generally grown for its fall color, not flowers (which I've never even noticed). Now that I think of it, we have two burning bushes because the small one, and its still pretty small, was given to us as a gift from a very good friend neighbor, and we planted it in a prominent position along the north side of the garage so they would see it when they drove in, and then it 'died', so my wife went and bought another, much bigger and ridiculously expensive one to replace it. Which then meant that the small one recovered. There they are, side by side.

Hi Lori! I've posted on a few threads the past few days but can't remember if I officially checked in or not. *S* I am behaving myself, of course, and feeling much better. I had my staples removed yesterday. Now I have to see the oncologist next week to see if he's going to put me back on chemo before my next surgery, which will probably be the 2nd week in May. It's going to be a full year for me, but it will soon all be history. I have lots of great family and friends here close by that are keeping me in line. Thanks for asking.

Thank you for that. Some of my favorite memories of MaryAnn was in the early days when she joined the forum, I was talking about finding a new make-up and there was a long discussion about it. She sent me a 4 in. paint brush and some spackle, lolol. I had the pleasure of meeting her at one of the get togethers and she was the same sweet lady that I'd gotten to know online. We shared something in common which isn't fortunate for either of us. We both have had cancer and we exchanged emails and cards quite often, both of which always made my day.
