Cream Cheese Squares

"Cream cheese squares. Very easy, and very good."

Original recipe yield 24 squares

2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese

1 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup margarine, melted

1/4 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch pan.

2. Press one can of the crescent rolls into the bottom of the prepared pan. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, 1 cup of sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy. Spread over the crescent layer. Unroll the second can of crescent rolls and lay them on top of the cream cheese layer. Do not press down. Pour the melted margarine over the entire pan. Combine the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top.

3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top is crisp and golden.

A recipe out of our paper this morning. It features chicken wings, but I think the glaze would be good on other parts as well which would be my preference

Balsamic-Glazed Chicken Wings (4 servings)

4 lb chicken wings
2 tbsp olive oil
salt and pepper
3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
scant 1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp unsalted butter

Preheat oven to 475*.

Wipe wings dry then toss them in a large bowl with the oil, salt and pepper. Spread on large baking pans lined with foil, in a single layer. Roast until the wings are golden and tender, about 35 minutes.

Meanwhile, simmer the balsamic vinegar, soy sauce and sugar in a heavy saucepan, stirring occasionally, until liquid is reduced to about 1/3 cup; 15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the butter.

Remove wings from the oven and place in a large bowl. Pour glaze over wings and toss to coat well. Let stand for 5 minutes and toss again to get as much glaze as possible to cling to the wings. Delicious hot or at room temperature.

Refrigerator Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup colored sugar for
decoration
Directions:
1. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla together in large bowl. Stir flour, salt, and baking soda together in a separate bowl. Blend dry ingredients in with the shortening mixture. Mix thoroughly with hands.
2. Divide dough into 3 parts; shape into cylinders, 1 1/2 inches in diameter and about 7 inches long. Roll in colored sugar (or use finely chopped nuts instead). Chill for several hours or overnight.
3. Heat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Cut into 1/4 inch slices, and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool. These can be frozen for several months.

I ran across these recieps yesterday, I just love Malted Milk Balls. If you try them before I do tell us how they turned out. Malted Milk Ball Muffins 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup coarsely crushed malted milk balls 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 large egg, beaten 3/4 cup sour cream 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 6 tablespoons butter melted (3/4 stick) 3 tablespoons milk Heat oven to 375*F (190*C). Grease and flour a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, malted milk balls, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a small bowl, combine egg, sour cream, vanilla, butter and milk. Add to dry ingredients, mixing until just moistened. Do not over mix. Fill prepared muffin tins two-thirds full. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until muffins test done. Cool in pan on wire rack. Makes 1 dozen muffins. ----------------------- Malted Milk Chocolate Balls One 11 1/2 oz. pkg. (2 cups) Milk Chocolate chips,divided 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil 1 Cup Carnation original malted milk powder 1 Tablespoon vegetable shortening Line two large cookie sheets with foil. In small saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup milk chocolate chips with oil, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in malted milk powder. Transfer to small bowl. Refrigerate about 30 minutes until firm. Shape rounded measuring teaspoonfuls of dough mixture into balls; place on prepared cookie sheets. Freeze 20 minutes.

Here's a new one I found at another board APPLE CINNAMON BREAD PUDDING 1-1/4 lbs. (3 medium) Golden Delicious. Gala, or Granny Smith apples, peeled, quartered, cored, and sliced (3 cups) Cinnamon/Sugar: 1/3 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon (set 1 teaspoon mixture aside for topping) 3 tablespoons butter or stick margarine, melted 4 large eggs 2 cups whole milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 8 or 9 slices cinnamon-raisin bread, cut in 1/2Ã¢ÂÂ cubes (5 cups) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 or 10Ã¢ÂÂ deep pie plate. Have ready a roasting pan larger than the pie plate. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with 2 tablespoons cinnamon/sugar. Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter and spread half the apples to cover bottom. Cook 1 minute preside or until partially cooked. Remove to a large plate. Repeat with another 1 tablespoon butter and remaining apples. Add to plate. Meanwhile, put eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining cinnamon/sugar in the bowl. Add remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter and whisk until ingredients are well blended. Spread bread cubes in pie plate. Arrange apple slices in concentric circles on top. Pour egg mixture evenly over apples; sprinkle with reserved 1 teaspoon cinnamon/sugar. Set pie plate in roasting pan; place pan on middle oven rack and add very hot tap water to roasting pan to come halfway up sides of pie plate. just posted this on the thread asking for Jambalaya recipes so might as well put it here too. Jambalaya: 6Tbs butter 1/2cup chopped green onions 1/2cup chopped yellow onions 1large green bell pepper,seeded and julienne 1cup coarsely chopped celery 1tsp minced garlic 1lb smoked sausage sliced into bite size peices(like ekrich,or hillshire farms if you can not get real cajun sausage) 1/2lb cubed ham 1(16oz)can whole tomatoes, crushed with the can juices 1cup chicken broth salt and cayenne pepper or cajun seasoning 2bay leaves 1cup rice uncooked Hot sauce In a large heavy pot heat the butter over med heat. Add onions,bellpepper,celery,and garlic. Saute for about 5 mins or till wilted. Add the sausage and ham. Cook for about 5mins. Then stir in the tomatoes and chicken broth. Season to taste with salt and cayenne or cajun season. Add the bay leaves and the rice. Cover and reduce heat to med low. Cook until the rice is tender and all the liquid is absorbed, about 25 mins, Remove the bay leaves and serve. Pass the hot sauce! Makes about 4 servings. *If using a 28 oz can of tomatoes use more rice ( 1 ÃÂ½ cups) I usually end up cooking mine 30 mins then stir it and cook about 15 mins more. Enjoy!!

I'm posting the recipe as stated on the site. Upon reading the comments, it was mentioned that the stacking on top of the mushrooms and scallions is not needed. The flavour is all about the sauce, and the stacking is just silly. Personally I agree....how does anyone cut the food that is stacked?? Anyway, it does look and sound good and will be tried. Orange and Soy-Glazed Chicken (Fine Cooking) Vegetable oil for the broiler pan 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs, trimmed Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper 16 small to medium shiitake mushrooms, stemmed 3 medium scallions (green parts only), cut into 3-inch lengths 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/3 cup granulated sugar 2 Tbs. mirin 1/2 tsp. finely grated orange zest 2 Tbs. fresh orange juice 1-1/4 tsp. cornstarch 2 tsp. toasted sesame seeds Position a rack about 7 inches from the broiler and heat the oven to 450ÃÂ°F. Line the bottom of a broiler pan with foil and lightly oil the top of the pan. Season the chicken all over with 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. pepper. Arrange the shiitake in 8 pairs, gill sides up, on the prepared broiler pan and season with salt and pepper. Arrange 2 or 3 scallion pieces on top of each mushroom pair, then put a chicken thigh, skin side up, on top. Press with your hand to flatten. Roast until the edges of the chicken begin to brown and an instantread thermometer inserted in a thick part of the biggest thigh registers 165ÃÂ°F, about 20 minutes. Turn the broiler to high and broil until the skin is crisp and deeply browned, 5 to 6 minutes, rotating the pan once for even browning. While the chicken is cooking, combine the soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and orange zest in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Think I'll make this for next months potluck luncheon!

Apple Sausage Stuffing
1 pound bulk pork sausage
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 cup sliced celery
1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling or apple cranberry pie filling
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can chicken broth
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
1 (14 ounce) package herb-seasoned stuffing cubes
1 cup pecan pieces In a large skillet, brown sausage; drain. Add butter,
onion and celery; sautÃÂ© 2 to 3 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir
in pie filling, broth and parsley. In a large bowl, combine stuffing cubes,
pecans and apple mixture. Place in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Bake,
uncovered, at 325 degrees F for 40 minutes. Yields 10 to 12 servings.

I made these last night......Pure perfection!

Wheat Dinner Rolls

1 cup all purpose flour
2 cups wheat flour
3 TBL wheat gluten
2 1/2 tsp rapid rise yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1 TBL white sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup water
1 TBL powdered(unflavored) coffee creamer

Mix all ingredients together. Let rise 1 1/2 hrs. Knead. Roll out on a floured surface. Cut into 14 pieces. Then put each piece into a greased muffin tin OR roll into balls and put on a cookie sheet sprayed with pam. Bake @ 400 for 20 minutes.

APPLES AU GRATIN

4 pounds Granny apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup raisins
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup lemon juice
1-1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup flour
1/3 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Arrange apples in a well buttered casserole. Sprinkle with raisins, cinnamon and lemon juice. Stir together with a fork the brown sugar, flour, salt, butter and cheese; sprinkle over the apples. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until apples are tender.

I am making this today and it smells wonderful.

Cranberry Pork Roast

Ingredients
1 (3 pound) boneless rolled pork loin roast
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (16 ounce) can whole berry cranberry sauce
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8-teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

Cut roast in half and place in a slow cooker; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Combine the remaining ingredients; pour over roast. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees F. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.

Nita, I have a pork roast recipe that's similar for the crockpot, but I haven't tried it. Mine doesn't have the orange zest and I think it has dry mustard. Let us know how it tastes. It sure sounds good!

joann_fla......yes! They were VERY light and fluffy. My DH complains that home made bread is not fluffy enough....he was THRILLED with this batch! :0)
