Husband home from the hospital for Thanksgiving

After five days in the hospital from a horrible fall off the roof, he came home in the afternoon. He is taking oxycodon for the pain, and so far his lung has held up after the tube was removed. I'm guessing he's just happy and thankful to be alive for this holiday which we'll spend at daughters with son and grandkids.

Wow Lesli, a Live oak, I love them. I'm trying to grow a Live oak here in Pa. It is the Quartz mountain Live oak, the hardiest Live oak, probably in the world. It did good last winter, which was a mild one. Your's is likely a Texas Live oak, but, if you are in Eastern Texas you could grow the plain Live oak that is usually grown in the more humid (rainier) parts of Texas. And is usually found in the moister southern states. Either way that is a beautiful tree, and good sized, well, you did say it's 500+ years old. I hope mine can handle my winters good enough to get some size to it before I croak.

Hi all, Dang, my life just needs to SLOW down. Dh is doing well but Sunday morning he woke up and it was plain to see that the depression had hit him like a ton of bricks. Mind you that is even a bit funny since he is a shrink and knew it could happen but did not think it would happen to HIM! With lots of TLC he is feeling better and the last of the site pain is better. Which is good since I am searching the calender for a good day to pencil in my breakdown ;-) Thanks for all the nice comments.. I do my best to keep up and keep moving and that is a great help with the Lupus symptoms. You know the funny part was that for years no one caught it that it was the *L* that I was dealing with. It was only after the death of one of our children that one doc started to piece things toghter. Mind you.. once all the facts were together it was pretty plain and it turns out I had been flaring since I was in about 8th grade!! .. such is life. I always figure that there are others with less than me and more hardship so I need to suck it up and get on with life and walk this earth to help others. I finked out tonight on the dinner thing and just got salads from a local deli since I was tired.. but I am still looking at new ways to eat... funny really since I have been actually DREAMING about Holandaise sauce!!!! Good morning, y'all, . Thank you for the kind words, Mike. Laura, I will definitely hit you if I ever head towards Annapolis :). And thanks to all of you for the well wishes for Dave. It means more than you know. . He's better, I think. He's starting to be hungry again, and he now eats 3 meals a day. Granted, they are much smaller meals than what he used to have, and they are almost fat free, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We haven't had any setbacks since he left the hospital, so I must be doing something right in what I feed him. We are scheduled to go see some big wig at Hopkins that is specializing n Pancreatitis, so we'll see what he tells us. . The trees have been spending their days outside (except yesterday since temps were in the friggin 40's), but I've chickened out on the nights when I saw it go below 50 this week, so I brought them back in for the nights. As soon as it's steadily staying above 55, I'll just leave them out 24/7. I can't wait for that, either. I am so sick of that rain and constant drizzle and cold. I need some sunshine at least as much as my trees do. . I've also just finished giving them their first feed since last October when I brought them in for the winter, and their very first FP feed, since we decided to stop giving them the organic Grow More fertilizer I gave them last year. I've fumbled a little with the strenght to give them, and figured out 1/4 Tbsp for 1/2 gallon, as described in THIS POST I intend to use the "mikerno-approved method", and feed them every day about 10 minutes after their daily watering. I was uncertain of my FP per gallon proportions, so I decided to start low at 1/4 Tbsp / 1/2 gallon (1/2 gallon being the volume of my "fertilitzer pitcher"). . I haven't seen any scales appear back, but that doesn't mean squat, I still have to redo the Neem oil next week (Tuesday will be a week since my last application), and then the week after that, again. . I'm sorry I'm not contributing more to these boards, these days. It's just that by the time I'm done with all I have to do, I'm so drained and bone deep exhausted that I can't summon the energy to actually "write" anything. I do read your posts and replies, though, it's relaxing and allows me to think of something else, no matter how briefly. . I hope y'all have a great week end. God bless, . Atheen

Something I’ve been doing that my family loves. They’re a bit more adventurous than the family I grew up with. (Mom, Dad and siblings.). I’ve been quick steaming or baking spaghetti squash and sautéing it with a bit of red pepper, mild onion or shallots and pea pods, either the cut up sugar snap peas or the pea pods you find in the Asian section of the produce aisle. I add seasonings and do a quick stir fry. Butter, not oil, salt, pepper and something like a bit of Italian spice blend or preferably fresh basil and garlic. I add a lot of garlic. It’s very colourful and good. I make it earlier in the day and reheat to serve. Nuking is fine. Only caution I have is to make sure the squash is still on the crispy side.

My DH just got home from the hospital yesterday after a
total left shoulder replacement. I wasn't expecting his release for Thanksgiving so there's no special dinner here, no family nearby...
but we're both glad he's home.....
Glad your DH is home also, that's a Happy Thanksgiving!

Lily that's wonderful news, will keep praying for a total recovery.

Pekemom I must have missed the post that your DH was in the hospital, but now I am happy for you both that he's doing well enough to go home so unexpectedly. Will pray for continued healing.

Thank you all. We went to our daughters, and he ate dinner and did well. The only problem was persistent hiccups. They came yesterday after he got home, then they leave, but come back. He slept 9 hours with out them ,and this morning they started up. Off and on all day, mostly on. As we were leaving, he grabbed some pistachios and they stopped at 10. .We have tried sugar on a spoon, p-nut butter on a spoon, various breathing techniques to no avail. I'm sure it's related to the meds and trauma on his body. If I had a fall like this, they would have swept me up and put me in a dust bin.SIL is a great photographer, and I wanted a family pix. Grandson was complaining I always want to take one, and daughter said that we never know who won't be here the next time. True, but morbid.

Wow, it was great he got to come home before the holiday and even greater that the hole in his lung didn't get bigger. That man must be partially made of steel! Hope he continues to get better every day.
