Maui Onion Dressing

"Maui or Sweet Vidalia onions create a creamy sweet vinaigrette."

Original Recipe Yield 16 servings

Ingredients

1/2 cup chopped Maui or other sweet onion

1 clove garlic

1/4 cup papaya seeds (optional)

2/3 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 cup vegetable oil

Directions

Combine the onion, garlic and papaya seeds in the container of a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Add the sugar, mustard, lemon juice, vinegar and mayonnaise; puree until blended in. Set to low speed and pour in the vegetable oil in a thin stream. Chill and serve with fresh salad greens.

Buttermilk and Honey Bread or Rolls

Ingredients:
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry
yeast
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups buttermilk, at room
temperature
Directions:
1. Combine the yeast, whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, baking soda, salt, honey, oil, and buttermilk into pan of a bread machine.
2. If baking in bread machine use medium temperature setting.
3. If baking in an oven, use manual or dough cycle to knead dough. Remove from bread maker, and place in a greased loaf pan. Let rise until doubled in size. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F (175 degree C) oven for 25 minutes, or until bottom of loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Serve warm or cold with whipped cream and strawberries as a garnish, if desired.

This is on the cover of one of our magazines. It's so rich and dark and tempts me. It calls for 1 bottle of stout beer, so I'm going to buy "something" and try it. Does it look good to you? Slow-Cooker Beef and Stout Stew 1-1/2 lb (680 g) Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed 1 lb (454 g) carrots, peeled and coarsely chopped 1 lb (454 g) parsnips, peeled and coarsely chopped 2 ribs celery, chopped 1 onion, chopped 2 bay leaves1 tsp (5 mL) dried thyme 3/4 tsp (4 mL) salt 1/2 tsp (2 mL) pepper 3 lb (1.4 kg) stewing beef cubes 4 strips thick-sliced bacon, chopped 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) Stout beer 3/4 cup (175 mL) sodium-reduced beef broth 2 tsp (10 mL) Worcestershire sauce 1/3 cup (75 mL) all-purpose flour 1 cup (250 mL) frozen peas In slow cooker, combine potatoes, carrots, parsnips, celery, onion, bay leaves, thyme, salt and pepper. Speedy Turkey Tetrazzini (Ladies Home Journal) 8 oz curly egg noodles 2/3 cup plain bread crumbs 3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan 6 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted 1-1/8 tsp salt 1-1/4 cups sliced white button mushrooms 1 cup chopped onion 3/4 lb cooked turkey, cut into 3/4-inch cubes 1 cup frozen peas, thawed 2 cans (14 oz each) low-sodium chicken broth 6 Tbsp all-purpose flour 2 tsp fresh lemon juice 1/2 tsp dried thyme 1 Cook noodles according to package directions; drain and set aside. Meanwhile, heat oven to 425 degrees F. In a bowl, combine bread crumbs, 1/4 cup cheese, 3 tbsp butter and 1/8 tsp salt; set aside. 2 In a medium saucepan, combine 1 tbsp butter, the mushrooms, onion and remaining 1 tsp salt. Cover and cook over medium-high heat 3 min. Uncover and cook, stirring, 3 min more; transfer to a bowl. Toss in turkey and peas; set aside. 3 For sauce, in a medium saucepan, whisk together broth, flour and remaining 2 tbsp butter, bring to a boil. Saturday's paper included this year's Milk calendar, so I'll post a recipe periodically from it. Gooey Chocolate Cranberry Squares (Milk calendar) Crust 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup butter, softened 1/4 cup milk Topping 1 2/3 cups sugar 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tbsp flour 1 cup milk 3 eggs 1/3 cup butter, melted 2 tsp vanilla 1 cup dried cranberries Preheat oven to 350. Line a 13x9 metal baking pan with foil, leaving 2" overhang at each end; lightly butter foil. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, salt and butter; using your fingers or pastry blender, work butter into flour until butter is well blended and mixture starts to clump. Add mik and stir with a fork until a soft dough forms. Gather handfuls of dough and drop over bottom of prepared pan. With floured fingers, press dough evenly into bottom of pan and 1/4" up sides. Bake 15 minutes or until edges are golden and top is firm. In another bowl, whisk sugar, cocoa and flour; gradually whisk in milk. Whisk in eggs, butter and vanilla until blended; stir in dried cranberries. Pour over hot crust, spreading evenly. Bake for about 30 minutes until topping is evenly puffed and center jiggles just slightly when pan is moved. Let cool completely in pan on a rack. Remove cake from pan and cut into squares or bars.

Okay I HAVE to share my sour cream pancakes with all of you.
It's the first time I've ever made pancakes from scratch...I've been using the big blue bag from Costco for a few years. Krust something.

These are just as easy and oh so much better!!!!

Of course, when I asked for buttermilk recipes, I also found the leavings of some sour cream lurking in the back of the frig. sigh. Luckily I had this recipe handy so I could try it.

Sour Cream Pancakes

2 tbsp butter
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup regular or light sour cream
1 tsp vanilla

Microwave the butter until melted.
In a large bowl stir flour with sugar, baking powder and salt until well blended. Make a well in the center.

In a medium bowl whisk eggs with milk, sour cream, melted butter and vanilla. Pour into flour and stir just until moistened.
Melt some butter in a large frying pan or on griddle.
Use 1/4 cup measure to pour batter. Makes about 14 pancakes.

Gonna make these for the holidays

Cranbertrysausage balls

1 pkg. Jimmy DeanÃ¯Â¿Â½ Hot Pork Sausage Roll
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup chopped dried cranberries
1 cup chopped pecans
Ã¯Â¿Â½ cup all-purpose baking mix
Ã¯Â¿Â½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375Ã¯Â¿Â½F. Mix ingredients just until blended.

2. Shape into 36 (1-inch) balls; place in single layer in 2 lightly greased baking pans.

3. Bake 10-12 minutes or until done (160Ã¯Â¿Â½F).
