I'll promise you that it will not work as well as advertised. Nothing like this works as advertised.

I don't have that particular Pampered Chef product, but I do have a lot of Pampered Chef stuff and it's all high quality. There are many Pampered Chef products that are indispensible in our kitchen.

However, having said that, I'm sure I've seen a similar product in another catalog -- I just can't remember which one!!

I've learned the costly way that you can find the same products elsewhere, pay much less and still buy quality.

What is so difficult about slicing carrots that you need a special tool? I take out my chinese chef's knife and I can slice carrots as fast as a motorized salad shooter

I have had one for years and just bought the new one. It is pricey but well worth it. I would hate to be without it.
When slicing potatoes I peel and cut them in half. Lay the flat side down and slice away. With the guard thing you put on there is no danger of cutting yourself. It just takes some figuring out how to use it..

At pampered Chef this item is fairly new. I saw it Monday night and thought it wasn't for me. A sharp knife on my carrots and celery would be easier.

Susie, What do you make with such small pieces of potato? Hash browns?

I went to a pampered chef show last year, and bought a mandolin (the expensive one).
What I got was a flimsy, plastic piece of junk.

I'll stick to Williams Sonoma - they sell high quality products.

Don't laugh, but my sister-in-law gave me this chopper for Christmas four years ago, and it works great for me. In fact, when I first got it I thought she had re-gifted me something she got at the office party and since I never use such things I put it away for a year. True story. Finally I was making soup one day and thought "why not give it a try". Now I use it all the time. You can't put a big honking piece of really hard veggie on it and expect it to chop without some extra downward pressure, but it WILL chop it. Cleaning can be tricky without the little tool that is included, but even that surprised me at how well it worked for a plastic fork.

I do all my slicing,dicing and chopping by hand. I had a food processor at one point (found in my late MIL's house after her death) but I couldn't figure out how to use it and threw it away. I know food processors are good for pie dough, but I always buy those pre-rolled pie crusts at the grocery.

From the looks of the photo you posted, that's a LOT of plastic for $19.95.

My experience with PC products over the years is that they are way, way over-priced and--at least the stuff I've purchased has been of VERY low quality.

Before your sister drops that kind of money on a piece of plastic, she might want to check her local restaurant supply store--I find professional gadgets are of generally far better quality than PC, although pricewise they're often comparable. Or she could check online sources like Williams-Sonoma, or Fante's (In Philadelphia's Italian Market--a VERY good store that sells high end kitchen items)

Just looking at the photo, it's hard to imagine that thing would be able to handle something solid like a carrot, or fibrous like asparagus very well, for very long. And there's another question--how do you sharpen the blades? They're not going to keep an edge for very long. Also, looks like it would be a bear to clean, getting in between all those blades and spaces.

Me? I prefer to do my slicing and chopping with a good knife and board. That way I control the size, shape, etc. Clean-up is easy and I don't have a lot of extra 'stuff' to find homes for.

In general I like the older PC products better than the new ones. The last party I had gone to was 15 years ago (right before I got married). I still have (and use) all of the pieces I bought then and they have held up exceptionally well.

I went to a party just last week, and the newer versions of the items I have did not impress me at all. I did not see a crinkle cutter in the catalog. The spatula seems much smaller and the rep could not tell me if it was heat proof like my old one is. The pastry blender is completely redesigned.

I don't remember seeing so much plastic in the line before. And why is everything so HEAVY? She tried to pass around a cookie sheet and I could barely lift it.

She did demo that slicer. She opted to cut a small carrot. It looked like she was having a hard time, it needed two hands, and carrot pieces flew EVERYWHERE once she managed to cut it through LOL! I was more impressed with the tomato wedger, it seemed to slice a roma tomato pretty cleanly and didn't mush it up. I have issues with hand strength though, so a knife is better for me.

I bought a garlic press many years ago, and it worked great and was excellent quality, but I hated cleaning it. I gave it away, and just use my knife for garlic.

By the looks and description of the slicer, it's for long veggies....celery, carrot etc. If you're wanting to buy a slicer for veggies, you are better off getting a mandoline or something similar, where you can do potatoes, tomatoes, onions etc.

The PC one is just too limited in its usage, imo. As Azzalia said, I'll bet it's a bugger to clean, unless you do just a quick swish in the soapy water.

The one I have is the Mandoline. I use it to slice all my veggies for soup, fried potatoes,and such.. I did pickles this summer and it was perfect for them. The new one has a new plate so you can't cut yourself. You just have to pull it all the way back and then slice forward. I use it several times a week..

I like using my Kitchen Aid food processor for slicing potatoes and things. I also have a large size salad shooter I can use also. I have not used it in awhile though.
