It's only $35, go for it! Even if it is not right for that outfit, you can pair it with many other things.

It looks nice, but it is lightweight. Do you think it would provide enough warmth? Maybe you could find a warmer one. Are you comfortable with shawls? That might be pretty and warmer. I notice they have a "shawl collar sweater jacket" on the website. Not in black, but in grey.

I cannot wear heels of much height either, 2" being about the max for me. Check Penneys, or even their website for ideas.

Kathleen, it's hard to tell what would look good without seeing the dress but if that sweater is any indication I don't think that those boots would work. They would be adorable with leggings! Do take a look at Penney's or one of the shoe stores, I found these dress shoes that have low heels.

The Shug is cute and cut wise it would maybe go but I have a feeling the rayon fabric would clash and is maybe a little to summerish for a sweater dress.

I think the boots are fine.. you don't need a heel.. although I think a leather look boot may look better. I would wear the same color tights as the boots though so that's it's all one color and lengthens your legs.

The leather jacket idea is good. If that's not your style, I'd just try simple cardigans until the style and fabic fits.

I don't like shorty shrugs on grown women. They look like toddler clothing. But that's just my opinion.

I do like the asymetrical sweater wraps with sleeves. But with the cowl neck on that dress I think another sweater would be too much. i would look for something cut more like a jacket. Boots and tights would be very cute with that dress. Love the leather jacket idea.

Another suggestion, tho you didn't ask for it (and I'm not ASSUMING you need it), but I hear good things about it: the Spanx line of shapewear.

Also, there are a lot of nice boots out there that have shorter heels.

I agree with Wildchild that the cowl neck complicates the choice of a coverup a bit. I like the cowl, tho!

Maybe look for a jacket that has more of a band collar, or no lapels? Or, are you a scarf person? A wool patterned scarf to drape over your shoulders?

(PS: It's great your daughter is giving you fashion advice! Don't be surprised to see her wearing your new boots!)

Instead of pantyhose, what about tights? More of a fall/winter look anyway (to me, at least). They might keep your legs a bit warmer! And you could keep a monachromatic look.

I also think a cropped leather jacket with a mandarin collar would be good, but only if you think you'd get use of it beyond going to the show.

I love the shrug, but agree that it's too lightweight for the dress. I like the idea of the leather jacket. I also like the boots and they would work fine with the dress, but I would prefer a more tailored leather boot, maybe a bit higher on the leg. I agree that you should wear tights the same color as the boots.

I wouldn't do a shrug - I know you're on the shorter side so an almost same length cardigan would look better in my opinion. It would have to be very plain and of similar weight to the dress. Something belted might be nice but then you wouldn't see much of the dress.

I think a simple wrap would be great too.

You could also wear a close-fitting long-sleeved shirt underneath for warmth. Something that won't add bulk. Maybe a bodysuit. That's only if the short sleeves on that dress aren't too tight - I can't tell.

Definitely tights and boots.

I like those boots and since it is a wedge heel it is much more supportive and it has a low heel. There was another pair with a wedge heel there also. I think the taller boot and a dressier style works better with that dress.

Since it's a very casual knit dress that "appears" to have weight, I love the idea of black tights with a higher, mid-heel, dressier boot. While I'm a big shrug wearer with short sleeve tops/dresses (for warmth) and to alleviate added bulk where it doesn't belong, I'm not liking a shrug with your knit dress. You could get away with a waist length cardigan and just button the two middle buttons to accentuate a waistline, but the neckline of the cardigan should be rounded not squared, IMO. Details, details. Not sure what the event is, but something to consider is wearing a piece that you can take off (hence the sweater or jacket), in case you get warm as oppose to a long sleeve top underneath.

But, without knowing your build type, it's tough to put together to ensure it looks polished on your frame. I'm very particular about things fitting the right body type form head to toe, but that's just me.

I like your choices I think it will look great. I really like the shoes, I am a boot person but the booties are cute.
I will wear tights anytime rather than pantyhose.

That jacket you will be able to wear with so many things and getting it in black makes it go with anything.

Debi, the dress is pretty thin. I'm 5' 1" and have a small frame, although, my hips and thighs are a little on the big side for my frame. I weigh 136 right now. Because I'm so short I don't know if tall boots would even fit me right...they would probably come up to my thighs-lol.

We are going to see Wicked and I wanted to be a little dressed up but not a lot. I'm used to wearing jeans and t-shirts. I don't think I've worn a dress since I worked in an office back in the early 1990's. Even then I had no fashion sense.
