Need gift idea

Co-worker said I'm great at figuring out gifts, (I never told her I have help). She's recently gotten into researching her ancestry and has found a 90 year old Aunt in Australia (her mother is Australian). She's never met this waunt, and this aunt lives in a rural area. THis is all I know. We live in MN (if that helps at all). Any idea for a unique, nice gift for this person? My friend is NOT crafty at all!

A photo album of your friends family over the years.

Maybe a small picture album--Hallmark has some easy ones--called Family and a brief description on the family starting with the relatives the Aunt actually knows. I would not mail any food etc because of age and diet. All you do is slip pictures in, no pasting etc.

I have my charm from my grandmother's bracelet, which, at the end, had 38 charms on it, but 7 were her great-grandchildren. I just got mine in a Christmas card from my aunt. I just strung mine on a necklace. But I've seen cousins who have had their charm made into pins, or tie-tacks. One cousin has his and his deceased twin brother's charms made into cuff links. I guess my feeling is that if you can come up with a good reversible idea for presenting the charms, go with that. But I'd hesitate to do anything that can't be easily undone. Let the recipients have a chance to make the charms into something they will use or wear.

In response to the accountant remark, its not the IRS, its the state and not an income tax audit. I have paid a CPA $11k to do a forensic audit on me and according to them the state owes me $4k. This state is going after anything they can get so they won't have a shortfall. They hired 49 new auditors for this. It was a sales tax audit. I was told 20 years ago not to tax on vehicles by the DMV because I an not a dealer. They were wrong. I have to pay the sales tax on all the cars I have sold through my business. I have 11 people I know going through the same thing. The reason it has taken 3 years is they kept asking for extensions because they are short handed. So thanks but no thanks for your smart a$s comments, you have no clue what you are talking about.

I would get them a family photo frame or something they can all enjoy. An adoption is the official beginning of being a "family". A gift for the family would be appropriate. (ie. something they can all use... gift certificates to a local ice cream parlor, amusement park, movie theater, etc. or an album for family photos... even one of those digital photo frames would be nice.)

I love Sees candie. Miss living out West, one of those things we can't get out in the East. ) : I have no idea what to take to someone in Japan. Years ago, my mom went to visit her family there and took gifts for her family. I don't remember what she took, but she brought back things for all of us, including a Western style tie thing for my dad. I thought that was odd, but my mom said you can buy anything in Japan that you can get in the U.S. I guess that's not totally true, according to the above posts, lol. Wish I could go with you on your cruise, Jodi! I'm sure you'll take lots of pictures and post them when you get back?

when My Daddy's family found a sister that had been sold when she was 3, I made up a small photo album that had the only picture of her family when they were all babies. then added a hand-scribbled-pedigree-tree showing how she was tied to my Daddy (her Half-brother) and "the original five", then added a hand-scribbled-family-map with Daddy's halfs from his Mama's second family. then pictures of those directly related to her, and then Mama & Daddy's brood. She said it was the best gift she had ever gotten because it gave her a family. l.marie

If I were the aunt, I would be very interested in seeing photographs of family members I did not know.

I am going to put 15 photographs of a family member who visited me in Australia many years ago. I am going to see this family member next month. So I was going to buy a little scrap album from a craft shop and just present the photos in a nice way. I am not very crafty, myself, so easiest option is the way for me !

I think this is a very special discovery for you friend, Vicky.

Where in Australia is this aunt, I am intrigued ?

You could make a photobook online and have it sent to your aunt. I know that Shutterfly has an Australian site, and I'll bet that others sites do, too. For that matter, I presume you could just sign up for the regular site and have the book sent to Australia.
