I'd just use my iPad or laptop.

I put all my recipes in google docs and use my iPad to use them.

For $199.00 I would buy the Fire (Amazon 11/15).

Me too....I'd use my computer instead...but I just received a recipe book holder I'm wild about....which shows how I feel about buying any more kitchen techno gadgets.

No way, half the fun of my recipe collection is having them handwritten by folks who are no longer of this world. I feel so connected to them when I pull them out.

No way....overpriced, too small to read on a counter top, and totally unnecessary.
Some people think women will buy anything if they make it "cute".

No. I dislike one-use devices. I could use my laptop for displaying a recipe, but more likely I'd print one out.

I don't usually cook with recipes, anyway. I only pull out a cookbook or recipe for something baked or unfamiliar.

Nope... it's an overpriced one trick pony.

Its cutsey, but why would anyone buy a $200 IPad to read a recipe card? What happens to all the stored recipes when the battery runs down?

Recipe cards sit forever in a neat little file box and the battery never runs down. Its transportable. It can be taken to a remote cabin and used for months - very reliable.

If I need help doubling a recipe, there's always my calculator that I keep around. A calculator is not needed for easy multiples of the recipe; Its very useful when one wishes to make a batch 1.5 times in size, or any other fractional multiple.

One may make the same argument about the calculator as I did about the reader: What happens when the battery goes dead? It quits. But the role of a calculator is much different to that of a recipe card. I use the calculator for many other complicated tasks. The calculator I use has trigonometric, logarithmic, and decimal power functions. And by the way, it can be used to adjust the amounts in a recipe for any multiple including decimal portions.

It does look pretty handy, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on one either. I might try it, if it was $10 - $12 but that will never happen.

I'm in agreement with all of you. I don't use my laptop in the kitchen....to scared of spilling something or it falling off the counter :(

This is going to be featured on The View apparently, (as if any of them cook!)

I am so low tech, my phone doesn't even take pictures, LOL, no way would I buy it... besides, the link won't work for me, and I can't see it.

I don't even justify having cable... the real "luxury" I have is my computer and my car.

Moni

Notebook PCs are in that price range, OK, $50-$75 more but Netbooks are definitely in that price range or less, and will do all that will and much more. Tablet PCs are much more expensive and so are ipads so to compare them isn't fitting.

Actually a kitchen is a good spot to use a desktop. Nice large monitor, wireless mouse and keyboard and you have the base unit off the counter so it'll avoid the mess that a notebook would have.

In case you didn't infer from the above, my answer is no. I too don't like one-trick ponies too often.

Oh, and for the question on what happens when the battery runs down? Charge the battery and they'll reappear. Same as with a notebook, cell phone, desktop computer, digital recorder, etc.

Sorry to be unclear. My point was that I already have an iPad so that's what I would use to display recipes. I agree that I wouldn't buy an iPad JUST to display recipes.

Furthermore, if I'm cooking a complicated meal with multiple recipes, I print them out and tape them to the cabinet so I can see them all at once.

There are good software programs out there, and one is from the Food Network. I love to search for different recipes when making something, and like to compare. I like the idea of printing out several ones to make sure you get everthing done--or hope to do so.

I'm with Lynn. Even knowing a certain recipe by heart, I still love looking at the handwriting of the person that gave me the recipe or remember the actual party/function where it was served and the person who brought it. Or, it's nice to call Lynn and say, "Okay, tell me 'bout that "No Peek" stew again."

I even have little spoons that measure "a smidge", "a pinch", "a dash", etc. for some of Gran's recipes. I don't use them but they're nice to have hanging around.

No, I wouldn't buy one. My laptop is always up and going on my kitchen counter as that's where I spend most of my time and I IM with DH all day long. I've never spilled anything on it but I'm sure the fan has sucked up it's share of flour. I did drop a bottle of EVOO on it once, from the cupboard above, but all it did was wank out my "h" key.

It's a "uni-tasker," so no way.
I couldn't find a definitive answer on the website, but it looks too bulky to be transportable. Like, you're on your way home from work, hit the grocery and are trying to figure out what to cook for dinner. Can you power on this gizmo and pick out that recipe you tried last October and had copied onto it?

Or, can a smartphone do it better? I don't have a smartphone -- altho my cell can take photos! -- but when my mind wanders to "Should I buy an iPhone? Should I wait for when iPads become less expensive and get one of those?... then I start adding up what they can do, what they might not be able to do, and just how much better off I'd be with either. So far, I'm fine where I am--without too much technology to distract me.

(Plus, it's another cord to keep track of ...)

It is not something I would ever buy.
