Wow--I have a private message from J88augj88aug!!

All of a sudden I'm being assaulted with junk mail involving "secret" messages, "private" messages, and confessions of love. It's getting annoying to keep deleting or blocking the senders, but I have to laugh at the stupid names they come up for these people who ostensibly know me and are trying to make contact. Believe it or not, I've never met a J88augj88aug in my entire life. :-)

That to me would be scary. Could it be someone just trying to annoy you or?? Just be careful.

Have you gotten any calls from 'Rachel-@ Card Services? I usually get a call from her a few times a week.

Between 'her' and the many political messages, I no longer answer the phone. I let the answering machine pick up.

Sure would be nice if Homeland Security would spend a little time stopping (and prosecuting) those who would use our phones to harass us.
Same with email.

Meli, I will ansew here for Angie as she is having problems herself and cannot reply at this time. In answer to your question, if cliviajohn is having the same problem as bigred and agirlsgirl had, he is not able to post. Additionally he is not able to report it via the 'Contact Us' link found at the bottom of any page here. His only recourse is to contact another member to report it on his behalf. I sent him an email via GW last night, but have not heard back from him. He (like senjanevada) has his email blocked. What this means is if I go to his page, and click on send him an email, the GW form will come up (since he has chosen to be able to receive emails via the GW email system). His email addy does not show on that form, because he has checked the box in his profile to show his email addy to No ONE. Because of his setting, the only way one can contact him is via GW...and if the email goes into cyberspace (as a lot of the GW emails have been doing for a while), then there is just No WAY to reach him. Life would be a lot simpler for a lot of folks if they would just choose to show their addy to Members only. If everyone chose the option to show addy to NO ONE then all trading would be a stalemate...no one ever able to reach anyone unless they posted their email in a reply in a thread, and then it would be there for ALL to see...members, nonmembers, and even spam email harvesters. Additionally, When a member chooses to show their addy to No One and that member emails me via the GW system, I will not be able to see the addy along with the email, and will not be able to reply to it....again...a stalemate. A lot of folks I'm sure don't get some replies, just because they are not reachable all the time...like when the GW email just go into cyberspace....and there is NO other way to email them privately Is that all as clear as mud? If so, feel free to post here, or email me privately. Just go to the email link on my member page, click on 'send chemocurl an email' and then get my email addy from the form there, and copy and paste the addy into whatever email you happen to use. My four and a half month old Shih Tzu is nothing like the dogs listed here: she is a very sweet natured dog, wants to please, wants to play and I make very sure that she gets a good, running type of exercise twice a day, every day - be it throwing a small ball down the long hallway so that she can chase after it and bring it back for about 20 minutes, or a good run in the back yard on a leash, or taking her for a good brisk walk in the neighborhood if weather permits - taking that walk is very important as these dogs need the mental stimulation of seeing different things and meeting different people on a regular basis. I don't find her to be yappy at all because I didn't allow for barking from the minute we brought her home - just told her "no" firmly and she caught on right away. She isn't manipulative at all, she seems to be willing and eager to please. She is very affectionate and I'm careful not to walk around holding her. She gets held when I'm sitting down and only when I allow her into my lap - several times a day but not all the time when I sit down. I decide when she will be held and she knows not to assume that when I sit she gets held. She plays with her toys, she ever chews on anything but her toys, she eats well and sleeps well, is a calm dog and is now completely potty trained. On the potty training, the key is to keep an eye on your dog - remember these dogs are very tiny and therefore have very tiny bladders. They need to be taken out very, very frequently. She will poop about an hour and a half after her meal and if I'm not paying attention and she urinates or poops in the house, it's my fault because she goes to the slider whenever she needs to go - it's my job to see her there and take her out. I never make a big deal if she goes in the house, I don't even comment upon it. It's a rare thing when she does and it's my fault if she has, so why would I comment - her bladder and bowels are very small, I can't expect her to hold it indefinitely until I get the clue that she is sitting right at that door for a reason. I don't work, so this is not a problem - and I rarely miss her signal that she has to go outside. She is cheerful, affectionate unless I want to be mushy and hold/kiss on her for too long a period of time and then she lets me know *enough!* as she wants to play with her toys. She wants to please, is very easily pleased and is calm and easy going with a distinct and affable personality. I don't know that I have an exceptional shih tzu, as her personality is pretty much like the personalities of those I know who have one. I think good training and educcating yourself about this breed along with the helpful tips to avoid ending up with a problem dog is something to keep in mind. Everything I have ever read has stated to be careful about designing a diva from your puppy - it happens fast and easily if you allow it. You are the alpha and the dog needs to understand and accept that fact right from the start. I can't really recall ever even raising my voice towards my dog - I will say "no!" firmly and quickly remove her from the place where she is doing whatever it is I object to, and that is how I handled the barking - just said "no!" and handed her a chew toy. She is a smart dog, she got the message within just a few objections and now she very rarely ever barks. She has always gotten along perfectly with my old yellow female lab - she knows when she is bothering the old dog and will leave her alone then, she understands that in the ranking, she is on the bottom of the ladder but is top dog for affection - she is very affectionate to all around her and is completely charming to family, friends and strangers. She is a very likeable dog. She is priceless - a wonderful little companion. She understands that I am the boss, she is not, and she is fine with it because that is how it was from the day she came into this house at exactly 12 weeks of age. She is content with her ranking and content with her family and home.

I just received a gift today, a pet supplement that seems to be some kind of practical joke that I have not taken well! I thought it might be a random promotion gone wrong, but Amazon told me it was sent by a person and not a company. They would not give any more details. The only option left that I can see is to deactivate my Amazon account and return any future Amazon deliveries to me unopened, with 'not known at this address' on them, because I will know that they are not something I have ordered. I asked the Amazon chat help person to send this comment to the sender so they don't bother sending me anything else via Amazon. I also asked them to share it with Amazon management but they didn't say anything about that. There is no option to block gifts, i.e. to only received deliveries from Amazon that you have ordered. They need this option in case someone is being harassed, which, in this case, I believe I am. It should be relatively easy to block orders not from your own account, but they said they can't do this.

Ded tired if I get a message it shows up in my notifications under the bell so you don't have to check an email - just FYI. graywings I'm not tech savvy enough to know what someone could find out about me if I replied as opposed to what they could find from a regular post - I'm sure you're right and someone on a mission wouldn't need me to respond. As for replying on the old posts....I'd have to search to find them and honestly, I'm not that interested! 2katz that's exactly what I was thinking - don't want to tattle on someone legit.

I'm with you Dreamgarden. I no longer answer my home phone. I too would like to have some rules on phone harassing and that would includes cellular phones. Some of us pay by the minutes and the government should banned these corporations from calling cellular phones!

There is a National Do-Not-Call website to register your phone number for solicitings but it should includes political and survey calls as well.

Another type of call is collection agencies. I get quite a few and of course, I'm not the one they're looking for. After notified them, they stop for about a year. Then, it starts all over again. Do they think the person they're looking for would really answer to their phone calls? They're hopeless.

I have an unlisted number, so I don't usually get nuisance phone calls. However, I've noticed a strong upsurge of them in the past week or so. I blame it on the election. If it's a recorded message, I hang up immediately. If Caller ID shows a toll-free number, I don't pick up.

Marie, I don't think any kind of threat is involved....it's just spammers, etc., trying to get their hooks into us.

Here's an example. I've actually received this message several times from different names:

I left off the link. I can't imagine who would respond to such a message, but I guess there are desperate/gullible people out there.

I get quite a bit of spam email too... and some similar 'love interest' ones. lol The phone calls lately have been driving me crazy, the same number will call sometimes 10 times a day. The phone rings twice and they never leave a message... I told my DH today that I am thinking of changing our phone number even though we've had the same one for over 18 years.

I keep getting OUT of AREA 1 calls. Very aggrevating and no message. arghhhh

It is likely scammers out to harvest as much imformation about you as possible. It could also be someone who is looking to start an illicit relationship. Whatever the case, just assume to sender is up to no good.

Rachel, from Card Services, is a regular caller at our house, too! Friend of mine was sitting in an out of town dr.'s waiting room last week and heard two ladies discussing how they hated Rachel! LOL

Card Services calls me all the time. If you listen to the message you get an option to to opt out of future messages. I did opt out and all I think I did was confirm that they reached a real number. Ugh.

I also never answer a call unless I recognize the name and number. Between spam email, junk mail and nuisance phone calls, it's a PITA.

I'm registered for the Do Not Call list, but they call anyway.

Rachel is a regular caller here too, however, the other day, I got one from the same number and it was a guy, who said his name was Mike, so maybe Rachel is being replaced. LOL

I hear from Rachel all the time too, lol, but I got one the other night that was new to me. Someone from "Windows Service Center" telling me they had detected a virus on my computer. Unfortuntely for them I have a MAC, and I also knew it was a scam, but it just makes me so mad that there are so many people out there trying to scam those of us who aren't fully informed on this kind of stuff.

I've said it before, and I'll repeat it. If you do not screen your calls, hang up the second you know it's not a call from your Aunt Alice or the neighbor or whatever. Why bother to waste your time even listening to the message? It's garbage. And never do what Dedtired did and reply in any way. They all lie. They are all crooks.

Don't let them steal your time.

well, that was dumb. Their suggestion is to hang up. I want to know how to stop them.

Evidently Rachel and her friends are all breaking the law by making the robo-calls and also by making fraudulent pitches. Being on the Do Not Call list does not make a difference.

So, just keep on doing what you're doing -- either don't answer or hang up. I wish there was a way to fight back. The FTC is suing them. Big deal.
