You need to get to the Dr.! It is an UTI (urinary trac infection). It really is nothing to mess around with!! My HS BF's son was in the hospital and almost lost both kidneys when he let an infection get too bad! You don't have the flu, it is the infection that is making you feel this way.

Go to the DR!

Could be a number of things (kidney stones can cause blood in the urine, but they usually also cause intense pain). Please, get to the dr. as soon as possible, or to the ER if you can't get hold of your dr. Hope you feel better.

It sounds like a UTI or cytitis. If that is what it is it is going to be difficult to find a doctor willing to treat it. Most doctors get mad at patients with UTIs and won't do anything for it. An emergency room visit won't do anything for it either.

Cranberry juice is a great UTI prophylaxis. Vitamin b12 will help. Uristat can relieve the pain if any develop.

If you are lucky you will find a doctor with a kind heart who will give antibiotics but most will refuse to do so.

Doctors treat UTIs all the time. Don't worry about a Dr. being mad at you. I doubt very much that is true. Just get yourself to the Dr. and find out what the problem is.
You know there is a problem, and blood in the urine isn't normal. Find out what it is.

DD had a Urinary tract infection, felt awful, back pain and burning when she pee'd. She got antibiotics. I've never heard of a doctor NOT giving them for UTI's.

dilly_dally what qualifications do you have to say that most doctors will not treat urinary infections????? Everyone I know who has had one has been treated with antibiotics. Yes Cranberry juice helps but infections can cause kidney damage and this should be avoided if at all possible. In the very least, urine should be cultured to make sure that the antibiotics will work on the infection and follow-up given as necessary. My experience as a nurse has always been that urinary infections are treated very aggressively. Even animals get treated with antibiotics/medication if it is proven that they have an infection.

Sounds like a UTI to me too, or kidneys. I had a UTI that didnt get treated (I didnt even know I had it) and it turned into a kidney infection. It was BAD!! Trust me, you don't want that. Definitely get to a doctor.

I have had 18 kidney stones pass/caught/zapped in the last 30 years....and with most all of them, I have had a UTI after and received meds!!

Nikki, I sure hope you have taken the advice and gotten some medical attention....it is really nothing to mess with.

I'm retired now after working in a medical clinic for quite a few years. I can think of several possibilities that might accompany the fatigue/bleeding symptoms you have. Any itching? Hope you have/will see an MD soon. Treatment is the best option - "Tincture of Time" isn't always your best choice.

Nicki - get thee to the doctor ASAP as most here have recommended!!! (I can PROMISE you they will NOT think you're stupid in any way, shape, or form). Definitely sounds like a rip-roarin' uti - and needs to be diagnosed and treated soon! In the meantime increase your fluids as much as you can tolerate.

Most doctors (all?) WILL treat a uti - BUT - you must go in and leave a urine sample so that they can isolate the correct bacteria (different organisms respond better or worse to certain antibiotics - no way of knowing which till they test it). Chances are that the doc will start you off on one and then change it if need be when the culture comes back.

You definitely do NOT want to just drink cranberry juice and take Uristat and ignore it. (As a matter of fact, Uristat can skew the results of a urine dip). Utis can turn into a systemic infection if they're not properly treated.

In my 12 years as a nurse I have NEVER gotten mad at nor heard of a doctor getting mad at a patient for having a uti. (My goodness, we're there to *take care of* people, not judge them!) I HAVE gotten irritated at patients that refuse to come in and be evaluated and demand antibiotics anyway (thereby contributing to rampant antibiotic resistance).

I had a UTI a few months ago and didn't even know i had it.I went in for routine testing before surgery,the dr's office called soon after and told me i had a UTI and that they called in a prescription for antiobiotics to my drug store.

I've never heard such nonsense as dill dally says.

Hope by now you've been to the dr and got treated.It's nothing to mess around with.

Thanks so much to all of you guys for the wonderful support. I had never heard of the Dr. getting mad about that either and that post totally through me for a loop! Only thing I know for sure is that it's gotten alot worse this evening and I'm definitely going to either the Dr. or the urgent care tomorrow. I just need to feel better... this is scaring the cr@p out of me because I seriously have no energy.. and nobody else is gonna take care of these two little crazies that I have, ya know?? lol

Three years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer after a single episode of bloody urine at 10 PM. I went to bed, expecting to call my dr in the morning. At 6 AM I awakened in pain, but no more blood. I, too, thought it must be a kidney stone; instead, it was cancer in my right kidney.

Nicki, remember we are our own best doctor. When you wrote "something isn't right" that is the first clue that you need medical attention RIGHT AWAY!! You said you have no energy and are nauseous, plus the bleeding that could indicate a loss of blood and a drop in blood pressure. You body is trying to give you the warning signals to get to the doctor!! Maybe you could call a neighbor to take you to the ER, maybe she could watch the kids while you're being seen...just anything, but please don't wait too long.

Yes, please go to the doctor. I also had a UTI once & didn't even know I had it. I'd been feeling a little tired, but that was it. I contributed that to stress. I went in for a routine checkup with my OB/GYN & they did a urine culture as part of the visit. They called to let me know that I had a UTI. They asked which drugstore I wanted them to call the prescription in to. These things can get really bad if not treated. I've treated a UTI at home myself by drinking LOTS of cranberry juice & water. But I caught those when they were first starting. If they hadn't cleared up quickly I would've called my doctor. It sounds like yours is past the beginning stage & you should see a doctor now. An infection of any kind is nothing to play with. Hope you feel better soon.

My DH's ONLY symptom was pee-ing blood one morning when he woke up. He saw a doctor that very day. Four weeks later, he had his right kidney removed because of cancer. Fortunately, it is a very slow-growing cancer and that is the only treatment he required. He says he doesn't feel anything different just having one kidney. Please see your doctor ASAP. It COULD only be a minor infection, but it's best to check these things out...good luck to you.

I've had at least 30 UTIs in my life time and received wonderful care each and every time.

Anyone with any sense, and I know you have good sense, Nikki, will get themselves to a doctor ASAP before an easily treated UTI blows up into a severe kidney infection or even worse.

Get yourself to a doctor; get the needed antibiotics, and you'll feel better in no time.

Cranberry juice is great; but it doesn't cure bladder infections. You'd have to drink about 50 gallons a day to get any relief, and even then it wouldn't kill the bad bacteria. The antibiotics does that.

Nikki, I almost lost my mother 2 years ago to a UTI, it very nearly killed her, it turned into sepsis and her blood became poisoned. Started out like a normal bladder infection, then those symptoms went away and she became weak and lethargic. By the time she got into the doctor's office, she could barely walk or hold up her head. They rushed her to the hospital, IV antibiotics and fluids were her treatment and although it took a couple of days to hit on the right combination of them, in 4 days she was home, much improved but still weak. I really think if she had waited one more day, she would have been too far gone to improve at all.

PLEASE don't wait that long. I know you're younger and stronger than my mom, but once the infection gets spread around, it's much harder to treat.

As for doctors being mad? Total and utter nonsense, don't worry about stupid stuff like that, do what is RIGHT for your health! No doctor in his right mind would ever be mad at you for seeking help. Read what OKWriter said again. Geez. It's not even a full moon yet.

I've only had one UTI, but my Dr gave me antibiotics and said to start them right away or I WOULD end up in the hospital! It's 8:46 am (here, in EST zone anyway) and I hope you're on your way to the doctor by now. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and feeling better REAL SOON!

I'm very prone to UTI's and the ONLY time a Dr gave me a hard time was when I delayed treatment. I did get scolded for putting off caring for myself and only caring for others.

I've had blood in my urine and I've had Nephritis, which is very painful. You need antibiotics and fluids. The flu-like symptoms are most likely from the infection you are carrying around.

In my early 20s I suffered from a UTI nearly every month. It was total misery and a complete hassle to go to the doctor each time as he would not treat me sight unseen.

One day I went to the bathroom and when I went to flush, the bowl was filled with bright red water. Looked just like Hawaiian Punch! I was in total disbelief as I was experiencing no pain or symptoms! I called the doctor right away and an hour later was admitted to the hospital for surgery. I had a condition where the opening of my urethra was not large enough to completely empty the bladder completely. This caused bacteria to backup. Had I not had the surgery I most likely would have had kidney failure because of the repeated infections and backup.

kidney cancer here, too.....you surely just wrote this for something to write and didn't wait to get a doctor's appointment with symptoms like that...I've read some of your posts and you seem to be "all right".....no one has blood in their urine and goes..."Duhhhh"
