Nope - not Lynn Anderson...

Ya Ya, who grew up in the 50's-60's and had a boyfriend who was the drummer in the "world renown" Crystals!!! LOL

Little, four piece band from Des Arc, Arkansas. They wore "burgundy" blazers and my DF (who's still my DF!)dated the guitar player. They both sang lead for the band. They did "Little Red Riding Hood", "Wooly Bully", "Louie, Louie", etc. LOL

I shared a carseat with a large set of metallic blue drums for a couple of years! LOL

But I digress......LOL

Who did "Heaven's Just a Sin Away"?

Wanda got it.
JoanMN

Yep, she sure did. (Probably while I was typing! LOL)

#99 Y'all Come Back Saloon

Oak Ridge Boys

Right The Kendalls, I wasn't much of a fan. The singer with the boyish name was Charley McClain (sp?) she did "Who's cheatin who". I liked her voice. Oops, hope that wasn't on the list.

Does anyone remember a "Country Bumpkin" song? "He said hello country bumpkin..." My mother used to sing that song all the time. That and "Never Promised You a Rose Garden".

Thanks so much Ya Ya. This thread makes me very sentimental for that old AM radio that was always crackling out country tunes and my mom singing in the kitchen. She liked the acoustics in there. I was really small then and she stopped singing when my dad moved out.

"Country Bumpkin" was Cal Smith (not to be confused with Carl Smith). Cal also did "The Lord Knows I'm Drinking" (I love that song). He also did "An Hour and a Six-Pack", but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I saw Cal in concert years ago, and asked him to sing that song, and he said he couldn't remember all the words!!

Wanda, you be GOOD, girl! LOL

#61 Detroit City

Bobby Bare did the version of "Detroit City" that most people remember. But before that, Billy Grammer (who happens to be an old friend of my father) recorded it. Billy is best known for "Gotta Travel On", and he performed at the Grand Ole Opry for many, many years.

Yep - they list the one by Bobby Bare. I'm finding out more interesting things from you people!!! LOL

#14 He'll Have to Go

Ahhh! Was it the fellow from Panola Texas who was killed in a plane crash years ago? My husand loved his singing....Why can't I remember his name? LOL

Aha! Was it Jim Reeves?

Yes, it was Jim Reeves--he was one of the best singers ever. I love the duets they've put together with Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline.

Jim Reeves, it was.

#95 Sixteenth Avenue

Lacy J. Dalton?

Yes - I loved her unusual voice.

#88 Georgia on My Mind (Remember it's country songs!)

Willie Nelson?

I'm waiting for my favorite Jim Reeves song to show up. (It wasn't the one mentioned above.)

Yes, Willie Nelson

#97 Desperado

The Eagles recorded Desperado first, I think.

Lori

Clint Black?

The Eagles' rendition is the one named. Don't know if Clint Black ever did it, or not.

#43 Sunday Morning Comin' Down

Kris Kristofferson

Also done by Johnny Cash.
JoanMN

"Written by Kris Kristofferson, who had had recently been fired from his job as a janitor at Columbia Records' Nashville studio. He had been trying to pitch Johnny Cash songs during a recording session. So Kristofferson took a more direct approach. He landed a helicopter in Cash's lakeside yard. "The tourists have been coming by boat and by bus," June Carter Cash told her husband as she woke him from a nap, but now they're ocming by air." "Sunday Morning Comin' Down, a hit for Cash in 1970, also helped Kristofferson's own recording career."

#48 On the Other Hand

Randy Travis?
I'm pretty sure I THINK this is right..LOL

Lori

Lori's right! I'm gonna see if this post will continue past 100. If not, look for me on the next street over! LOL!

#45 Hey Good Lookin'

Hank Williams!

One of my all time favorite lines is from Sunday Morning Coming Down..... "I put on my cleanest dirty shirt"! Love that song, love Kris K and Willie N too.

LOL Rosebud, me, too! LOL

#89 Don't Come Home A'Drinkin' (With Lovin' In Your Mind)

Loretta Lynn.

Lori

And Lori moves to the head of the class.....LOL

#87 All the Gold in California

Gatlin Brothers

Clint Balck did the Eagles song on a "Common Threads" CD wher various country artists covered Eagles tunes.

I still enjoy Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers music.

Where'd Des go?
We need another song!

Lori

Dani got it. I'm here - just got back from walking and got on the computer.

Easy one: #3 The Dance

Garth Brooks

It may be easy ya ya but it's the best one of the bunch. :-)

Jodi-

You're right, Wanda. It is a good one, Jodi!

#35 You Are My Sunshine

Ray Charles (although I was thinking of the Statler Brothers).
JoanMN

He may be one who did the song, Joan, but they list somebody else. This man was a co-writer of the song and used it in his successful campaign for the governorship of Louisiana. (I didn't know that!)

that would be Jimmie Davis

Yes, it would be! LOL

#34 Here In the Real World

Alan Jackson.

Lori

Sure is, Lori!

#37 Tumbling Tumbleweeds

Moe Bandy recorded this in the eighties but he was not the first.

I'm going to take a guess and say Sons of the Pioneers.

Lori

I agree, Sons of the Pioneers. And maybe Roy Rogers with them.
JOanMN

Yep, Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers - great song!

Sons of the Pioneers - they didn't mention Roy Rogers. Maybe they were just nice enough to let him "sing along" with them !LOL

One of my favorites #51 Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine

wow you disappear for a while and look at what you miss. I had the Alan Jackson song but not the other.

Tom T. Hall should be the answer. LOVED him!!! What a great story teller.

Ack!
Ack!
Leave the computer for five stinkin' minutes and Dani gets the song!

I love Tom T.
The Ballad of Forty Bucks and A Week in A Country Jail cracks me up every time I hear them!

Lori

I like "The Year Clayton Delany Died"

My computer doesn't like opening this thread anymore, it's getting big. It's a good thing this isn't EBay, I'd get out-bid for sure.

Good!
If your computer can't open the thread Dani, maybe I'll have a chance to answer before you butt in.
LOL

Are the Statler Brothers on that list Des?

Lori

Dani did get it! LOL I'll start a new post.
