Low-fragrance liquid cleaners

Can anyone recommend a liquid cleaner for general use that doesn't have a strong scent. My son and I are both very sensitive to strong scents; they cause sneezing and runny noses for both of us and ultimately, a headache.

409 isn't strong. Funny that it's not in the general cleaning section but in the automotive section at Target. I get the concentrated and fill my own bottles, mixed with water.

Unless 409 has changed a whole lot in the past few years, I think that it's very strongly scented.

You might want to consider "fragrance free " cleaners. Such products are truly free of the chemicals that create scents AND cause illness. Do not mistake products labeled "unscented " for fragrance free. The labeling is very specific....."unscented " things use masking chemicals to COVER a scent. Febreze uses masking chemicals. Those chemicals can be as toxic as the smelly fragrances themselves.

I've used any number of fragrance free cleaners and don't have a favorite. Does vinegar bother you? (It doesn't me.) You can find fragrance free cleaners, shampoos, body soaps etc., everywhere these days.

Remember, it's the chemicals that bother you and your son, and millions of others. "Fragrance free " is the way to go.

I am currently having a problem with mites in my washing machine. Yes mites. I clean regularly and just literally think I'm losing my mind. I've thrown everything out of my house including furniture. I am having a devil of a time getting them out of my washing machine. I have done a lot of research and tried several things. I have found that vinegar (red apple cider by White House) kills them on contact along with hot water. The mites were nesting in my washing machine and spreading when I washed clothes in it and now are all over everything. They spread fast apparently. Sooo I've poured 2 gallons of apple cider vinegar all over the top of the drum and cleaned under the crack down in the lid where it bends with a tooth brush an the vinegar and no Clorox didn't work. Tried that. I've changed my washing habits. Only use Borax and Vinegar in my washing machine from here on because I have teenagers and there is no telling what is at their friend's homes. So I prefer these because they actually kill germs.

" We tend to run three washes through the machine, with different settings, in a cycle: (1) underwear plus kitchen clean-up cloths and towels, (2) colored laundry, and (3) sheets, pillow cases, and bathroom towels. The wash that I photographed was the underwear/kitchen cycle, the only one of the three that washes in hot water; the other two (warm water) washes get the same borax, but do not get the oxygen bleach, and they produce no more suds than that one does. The Vaska dose was up to the bottom of, but not fully covering, the fill line in the cap of the Vaska jug. It has got our clothes fully clean in every wash cycle that we have put it through so far.

I recently thought of this thread. I was at the local laundramat washing a down duvet and the toilet was the worst thing I ever seen, the inside was loaded in rust and calcium deposits. A few days ago I went back to wash another duvet but took a bottle of Lime-A- Way (green bottle) with me. I squirted about 5 ounces under the rim and all inside..I posted a temporary closed sign on the door..about an hour later I flushed and I was stunned. No scrubbing, the toilet was sparkling white. This was unbelieveable.

I LOVE this stuff. Non-toxic, not hard on hands, smells slightly minty. No fumes. It seems to kind of seal and prevent spots for quite a while. You have to rub it on, but hard scrubbing isn't necessary. I found it when I got a free sample from Ace Hardware...I think they sell it, too, but I ordered from the company. I believe they have a free sample available on their website. I have not used the liquid, only the cream in a tub: https://www.bio-cleanproducts.com/ I see on their website that they now sell a disinfectant that kills covid19, but I haven't used that.

Not a liquid cleaner, but a good cleaner none the less is the magic eraser sponge! This thing always amazes me(and does not smell). Yesterday I spilled candle wax all over the stove top and after scraping off the dry, I was left with candle residue all over the place...the MES took it right off! Then I used it for good measure, to clean my vent a hood. The greasy dust just slid right off like...MAGIC! ;)

I use white vinegar for a lot of things. Google uses for white vinegar and you get bunches! I use vinegar and baking soda to clean my toilets. Vinegar and water in a spray bottle is great to clean counters ect. And it's lots cheaper than commercial cleaners.

I'm fairly sensitive to fragrances too. A lot of cleaning products, perfumes, etc. give me headaches. I switched to more natural products without the chemicals & strong fragrances & do much better with that. The Method brand that they sell at Target has some light scents. I like the pink grapefruit. I also like the JR Watkins cleaners, also at Target. They are natural & have a light scent. I love the lemon one. It seems for me that citrus scents work better with regard to not giving me a headache & other problems. I find flower scents like magnolia, etc. too overpowering. Seventh Generation has a fragrance free one that works well.
