What treats are you giving for Halloween?

This year I have the snack size 3 Muskateers, Snickers, and

Hershey bars. We only get about 20 kids out here. Most kids

go to school functions or the mall for treats.

Payday and Butterfinger small bars. If we don't get many kids, DH and I can enjoy them.

Cans of soda pop. I've been giving that out for the past several years. I don't drink it so if it's left over I won't be tempted by it. It will be good for company if there's any left over. We usually get around 50 kids.

I did not hand out treats this year. The landscapping on the way to the door was torn up and I did not want any kids getting hurt. It was really cold and windy anyway. The neighbor said she only got five kids. Here is a funny story. One of my co-workers was kind of sick so she worked from home that day. She started to feel a little better towards dusk, and she had purchased candy. She had been in a bathrobe all day and her hair was a mess. She found a goofy looking hat, a pair of eye glasses with eyeballs on springs bouncing off the front of them and a fake mustasche. She had quite a few trick or treaters and she put on a goofy act for each group that came to the door. The last group of the nite was 6 little kids and two dads in masks. She opened the door and started into her act. Keep in mind that this woman has a very distinct voice. After she finished her performance one of the men said "Randi?????" That's her name. Turns out this guy was one of the higher up VP's in our company. She had done some market research for him recently and had several meetings with him. She was so embarrassed that she dropped the plastic pumpkin of candy! LOL

Almost...I have to run to the store or get Denny to, for ground beef for the chili. Maybe some tomato juice too.. The house is almost done. (nothing like doing fall house cleaning a week before a party. We don't have trick or treaters out here much...but expecting at least 50 guests from family and church. We have been having great weather and it is supposed to be really nice tonight too. (70's yesterday)So I think a lot will show up. I'm setting up a spot this year to take family pictures again...They were all hoping we would do that again. It was a hit last year. I've bought pumpkins and some pretty silk fall leaves. I'm planning on filling my old wheel barrow with the pumpkins. I bought some mums but they are all done flowering so I won't be using them...Mr. scarecrow will be out there along with a couple sections of my old weather picket fence. It's fun. Lots and lots of wood on the fire pile , so we should have a big one. I'm afraid it will char some of the branches on the tree out there..but it won't be the first time. I'm excited.... We haven’t had tricker treaters for years. It makes my heart ping a bit because I don’t get to see the cute costumes and reactions of the younger kids. Some of my warmest memories are from the Halloween’s we had as a kid. Our Mom would let my sisters and I go through her closet to pick a dress and then like magic, she’d transform us into midget sized gypsies. Getting to put on jewelry, make up and high heel shoes at age 7 was so exciting. One year my sisters and I even transformed our garage into a haunted house for the neighborhood, it was so much fun! I wanted the same for my daughter and we’d go all out, now she has great memories too. It’s a children’s holiday, a day to tranform into something else and be silly. It makes me sad that it’s become so commercialized or so dangerous that kids have to go to malls to trick or treat; I get annoyed when I hear parents complain about having to take their kids out. We’ve basically ruined it for them in every way possible. It makes me wonder why parents (who for whatever reason) won’t let their kids partcipate can’t look at the bigger picture and see how these kinds of holidays actually give something special to the kids. The time our kids are small goes fast folks! Let your hair down and try to enjoy it while you have the chance! Your religious beliefs really have no bearing on whether Johnny wants to dress up as a ninja turtle or Mary wants to be a princess. IMO making a group of people conform to one person’s believes should be politically incorrect. There is something fundimentally wrong with that whole scenario.

How much candy to give out at Halloween?

Even though it was a beautiful night, I did not have many trick or treaters. I have lots of candy left. I will leave a few out but stash the rest out of sight to be doled out on cold wintry snow days. It was a fun evening. The kids were adorable and excited in their costumes. Some performed and the super heroes showed me their muscles. Everyone of them chatted with me, wished me Happy Halloween, said thank you, and were tickled when I said take 3 or more. Not one overdid it. The oldest kids were about 7th grade. Most of the costumes were homemade. Each had a twinkle in their eye. The best line of the evening, "This is for ravaging" (holding up a long spear; "this is for looting" (extending his booty bag and oh yes trick or treat" I got a big kick out of this 11 year old.

Not a thing. In the 36 years I've lived here, I haven't seen a single trick-or-treater. I'm always worried this will be the year they show up. LOL

Ring Pops. Have enough for 60 kids but depending on night may give two to each kid and shut the door early. Do not want leftovers.

We have a commercial popcorn maker that we set up and pop fresh popcorn. We also have candy bars for those that don't like the popcorn. We had a person in the neighborhood that would hand out cold beers to the adults with trick or treaters. He moved tho.

For the kids I know (whose parents will allow them to accept homemade treats) I made chocolate covered pretzels with fall sprinkles. Have enough for about 20 of those

For the neighborhood kids--I got fruit-filled cereal bars (64 of those)

And I got a bag of small boxes of 'hero sticks' (basically what we used to call candy cigarettes when I was a kid) for the gang members who show up from the city--usually groups of about 10-12, 20-something adults with maybe one or two kids, and they ALL demand a treat. I refuse to buy a lot of expensive stuff for them.

Have a few extra boxes of scooter pies, etc, that I can dig into if needed. Figure I've got about enough for 120. We generally get between 100 and 150. If we run out, DH can run to the corner and pick up some additional stuff.

We don't get any kids in our 55+ community, but I'd sure like to knock on sheilajoyce's door--my two favorite candy bars :-)

Milky Ways and Starbursts!
IF there are leftovers, they'll go to work on Tuesday (we have 2 candy jars -- everybody's always looking for a little sugar jolt!)

A neighbor frequently buys the really small water bottles -- those trick-or-treaters can get thirsty!

Only the ones my husband likes just in case there are any leftovers! LOL Mini Snickers, Butterfingers, M&Ms, Almond Joys, Twix, etc. plus cute little pre packaged pretzels, and small apples , plus stickers . I doubt that we will have very many, but I'm prepared just in case.

I have 64 bags made up each with a Rice Krispie treat, a pack of Sir Chewies and a small Kit Kat. Then, if I need them, I have extra Sir Chewies, a bag of Star Wars lollipops and a bag of small boxes of Nerds. Then, I could probably scrounge up quite a bit of stuff from Nick and Dan's treat stash if I needed to. I moved into town this year so I don't know what to expect. And Trick or Treat night was supposed to be Thursday but they postponed it until tomorrow night. This is the first time I can remember this town ever having trick or treat on Halloween (yes, that a strange quirk of this area - scheduled trick-or-treat never on Halloween - well almost never!)

Rice Krispie Squares from Shopper's Drug Mart. I'm pretty sure we have more than enough so DH and I will have leftovers. For the oldest kids we always have cans of pop if needed but I doubt we will need to dip into that stash.

I also live in a 55+ retirement community but have so many wonderful memories of giving out candy on Halloween.
And yeah...I kinda miss it.

M&M, Snickers, Starburst, Skittles individual bite size, for about 320. We'd like to do something a little bigger, but pretty much end up with the least expensive item we can find, because of the large numbers of tricker treaters here! We'll most likely run out of candy before we run out of tricker treaters. Last year, we ended up scrounging in the cupboards for bags of microwave popcorn, dried fruit, and maybe even added a few coins (quarters) to have something for the last several that came to the door.
