Not a clue on that. I personally wouldn't try it. I go to a salon and let a professional do mine. They have the schooling, and products to treat problem hair (thin/thinning).

Well, I probably won't do it--I've been debating about it for several weeks now but who knows. I have seen people who hennaed their hair and it looks really good. I can't afford to go to the salon as often as I need to. My hair grows so fast that I have roots in a couple of weeks. Thanks for your input. Sheila

doxiemom, I was having the same problem you have; thinning hair and the roots showing within a week or so of having it colored. I just let mine go grey and I love it! Yes, I can see some scalp showing through, but my doctor told me that as we age we all get thinner hair so to just "grin and bear it"! There are some thickening products you can buy, but I find them too expensive. I guess I could afford them if I didn't spend so much money on my furkids!

I use Henna because I am allergic to hair dye. It is an all natural plant based coloring. No chemicals or toxic ingredients.

You can also get different shades like blond, red or brown.

Dee, I do know about spending money on our furkids--I spend way too much on mine. I've been going white since my early 20's--I had just one patch that looked so striking in my dark auburn hair--loved it. I am about 80% white now--or more salt than pepper!! I do hate the growing out process--and it seems that my dark auburn is now changing to a much darker color. I told my kids I was going to shave it all off and start from scratch.

I started turning grey in college. Finally in my late 30s I just went natural. My hair is thick and white, and even as thick as it is I can see through it to my scalp here and there. That is just part of having white hair.

My hair isn't thinning at all, if anything it's getting thicker and curlier. I color my own using the cheap Colorsilk dye. It's always worked well for me.

I used to use henna when my hair was first starting to get grey. I would put one of those plastic bonnets from beauty supply on my head while it was processing and left it on longer than the instructions because grey hair is more resistant to coloring.

Henna over grey needs to be re-done more often than modern dyes, in my case every 3-4 weeks, but it left my hair shiny and in good condition.

If your hair is getting thin I would recommend getting your thyroid hormone checked, a simple blood test. Low thyroid is common.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I knew I could get varied opinions here and that is just what I was looking for. I would kind of like to just go with my natural color but the growing out process is ugly!! I thought about getting it cut into layers to cut off most of the old color but they would have to be really short layers and with my chubby face, I'm not sure that would be a good thing!! I have had my thyroid checked and was told it was in the normal range but the low side of normal. I am also anemic and have high blood pressure and a few other health issues. I know anemia causes hair loss and I am working on that but it is slow going. Thanks again for the opinions. Sheila
