Guess I'll have to break down and go to the DR...

I've been sick since last Sunday....not throwing up or anything.But I have a cough that won't quit and is so hard and dry,my ribs are killing me.No runny nose but a lot of congestion.Afraid of it turning to (or already being) pneumonia.Starting to get a headache too....

I've been taking Tussin CF for chest congestion and an Alka Seltzer one that's to break up congestion...not working.I'm going to work tomorrow but may leave early to go to the DR if it's no better.My ribs can't take much more,I feel like I was in a bad fight and lost...LOL!

But Larry did the dishes today and the laundry....so something good came out of it!

Ever have this? Does it go away on it's own or do I need a DR? I hate to go if it's just a chest cold....

1--The bad news is that the local postmaster who has been so helpful in the past is no longer there. He is no longer employed by the USPS....sigh 2--This AM I called about making an appointment with the person in charge. I spoke with the 'officer in charge'. When I asked his name, he gave me his first name, and would not give me his last name. Why would he have refused me that info? 3--I explained that I had several padded mailers that I had received in and they were unopened, and the customers who had sent them had been overcharged. I was wanting to bring them in, and have him (or anyone for that matter) inspect them and determine that they had indeed been overcharged. I explained that I then wanted a signed piece of paper saying that they were overcharged. He said he could not help me and gave me the telephone number of Consumer Affairs in Louisville. Well, I know from talking to someone down there a while back that there was at that time no Consumer Affairs Manager and that NO ONE was even an acting manager. gggrrrrrrrr........ 4--This week I received in a bubblie from Williamsport OH 46134 that was overcharged. It weighed .7 OZ yet was charged $1.05, which is for a 2 OZ large envelope. That means that either the clerk failed to weigh it, or else their scale needs calibration, thus is overcharging a lot of customers. I got a tel# for that PO, and when I called it, I get a non working # recording.........ggggrrrrrrr.........shot down on getting that done. 5--I was on the phone probably 30 minutes or so this AM with the USPS complaint #, getting 3 separate complaints filed. I have the confirmation numbers on all 3 of them and someone is supposed to call me back within 2 business days. Yeah right. I'm not holding my breath on that one. On the one report that was filed for overcharge, I have asked that the overcharge be sent to me. I wonder how they are going to handle that. shall I go on? Anyway, I this AM I learned about Restricted Delivery. Below is the info on that. Restricted Delivery Be sure your mail gets into the right hands. When you want your mail to reach a specific recipient, use Restricted Delivery. Sometimes, you might have private or highly classified documents that you require to be seen only by the addressee. Restricted Delivery ensures that your mail is only delivered to the person you specify, or to the person authorized in writing to sign for intended recipient. I just checked and the cost on a 13 OZ First Class Parcel, sent Certified, with Restricted Delivery signature and signed receipt of the person that accepted it being sent back to me would be less than $11. The exact amount escapes me now. What a bargain, huh, if the Parcel gets to someone who does their job? I have started to compose my letter to The Honorable John E. Potter..but will have to abandon that until I am feeling better. Postmaster General U.S. Postal Service 475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW Washington, DC 20260-0010 I also found an email address for him this AM, not that anyone would even really read any of the complaint emails and actually respond. I found the addy at the Answers.com site, so don't put much faith in it being up to date or valid. E-mail: pmgceo@usps.gov Light bulb moment. I can try taking in the overcharged envelopes, (one at a time might be best) along with an email from the member who sent them and they can authorize me to file for and collect the overcharged amount. I would think that would generate paperwork and that paperwork could then be used as additional evidence (proof) of the 2 year 9 month old problems of post offices across the US overcharging.

Gandle, "Captain from Castile" must have been a Book-of-the-Month club book back then. I remember it on my parent's bookshelf way back when, but have never read it. Sometimes it's very instructive to read those old bestsellers. Right now I've been wallowing in WWII. I got a book from Amazon.uk, (my favorite place to find a lot of stuff that never gets published over here) that is diaries collected by Mass Observation of people's experiences during the war. It was a fascinating book, and did a lot to dispel the myths I've heard from my family my whole life about the war. Now I'm reading Julie & Julia about a young woman who decides to make every recipe in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking & write a blog about her experiences. It's a charming book, and has some interesting insights into good.

Thank you, Marilena, for the info on the origin of Lythrum X Terra Nova. Explains why so many of my Google hits were French language sites. However, it did make me wonder even more why the quote from Univ. of MN is associated with this plant.....has overtones of the U of MN promoting this cultivar. Having given it some thought....I suspect it is because Neil Anderson (or cohort) is still doing testing on the various commercial cultivars of Lythrum. Perhaps the plant description info uses the 'least fertile' from Anderson's findings followed by promo info of their own? Unfortunately, it makes it sound like the Univ. of MN advocates this cultivar. I am probably being parochial here, but I don't like it one bit! Guess I will have to contact Dr. Anderson and ask him. He is one of those neat researchers who is great at interacting with the public and teaching. You make a good point concerning the 'other side' of the controversy. There are advocates for invasive species and some are real activists. Some of the activists promoting this school of thought tend to equate the introduction of plant invasive species with the much earlier European migration of humans to this continent. i.e. the plants have as much right to migrate to this continent as our ancestors did. I will never forget, when I first came to the GardenWeb forums, a thread on Lythrum on the Perennial Forum. To say it was vicious is a major understatement. I was horrified to be called a racist and worse. Things degenerated from there and Spike pulled the thread. So....yes, in some arenas introduced invasive species is a definitely a 'Hot Button' topic. First Tomato Is Breaking Color....Guess Which One

Mia, If I have short-day onions that mature in late May or early June, I put in southern peas or more okra if I'm thinking I didn't plant enough okra. If I have intermediate-day onions that mature a few weeks later, I might put in southern peas, or I might hold that area for fall tomatoes, or I might plant more summer squash if the squash bugs and SVBs are attacking the previously-planted squash plants. A lot depends on the weather. Some years (and I did plant this way this year in one bed), I plant my onions but leave an opening every 3' for a tomato plant. Later on, at tomato transplanting time, I come back and plug tomato transplants into those holes. Then, over a period of a couple of months, I harvest the onions closest to the tomato plants as green onions. (The ones I am growing to full size are in their own dedicated bed.) By the time the onions start bulbing up, I've already harvested the ones closest to the tomato plants, and the ones that are left are nice and big. By the time I pull up those onions, the tomato plants are expanding to take over that space. Just picture the onions as a groundcover underneath and between the tomato plants. This year I did it with tomato varieties that I expect will set fruit late in the summer: Phoenix, Merced and Mortgage Lifter, and I planted those plants late (just last week) to give the onions a good long time to grow before they have to compete with the tomato plants. There's millions of ways to squeeze more plants into less space, and combining onions with something that will take over the space after the onions are harvested is one way to do that. I also interplant my Irish potatoes and bush beans in alternating rows. The beans grow more quickly and are being harvested by the time the potatoes are starting to crowd them. Then, after about 3 weeks of harvesting beans, I yank out the bean plants and toss them on the compost pile and the potatoes fill up the space the bean plants had occupied. Dorothy, I figured you'd had ripe tomatoes in February. I probably will try some in at least a part of the greenhouse in late fall/early winter too, but I don't want to heat too large of an area, so I'll need to section off the tomato-growing area. The coldest my greenhouse got this winter was 23 degrees. That's not bad. I didn't have anything in it that night because I had moved the plants to the garage for the night. Dawn

sounds just like a flu that sickened every single person at my work including their family members, myself & dh got it. i used to have asthma and finally broke down and went to the doc (little clinic in publix grocery) on a sunday when i had to use my inhaler. i had a sinus infection w/ bronchitus, got a free antibiotic (from publx pharm) and flonase generic for $10 :-0 cause i used their little clinic and filled scripts there. cheaper there than if i went to my reg doc(w/ great insurance), they had no waiting and i got grocery shopping done too lol! i also used liquid guaffeisen (sp?). hope you get to the doc, even w/ scripts it took 2 more weeks to get rid of that cough... ~ liz

I had the same thing recently and went to the doctor. My cough was so deep in my chest I thought it my be pneumonia. I was coughing up blood. Dr. did chest xray but it didn't show pneumonia. I got a cortisone shot, narcotic cough medicine, antibiotic and an albuterol inhaler. Starting feeling better after the shot and a nap and the other meds worked really quickly too. Get to the doctor tomorrow.

Please go to the doc BEFORE you go to work, as if you have anything that is contagious you have been spreading it aroung all week. I know most people need to work, but it is not fair to make others ill. (RN)

My parents both got that cough, tons of phelgm but theirs was green. Seems to be going around and its tough to get rid of, some that my mom talked too said they have had it for months.

Yes, I had it also last year. Took myself into ER at 3:30 AM (I knew it wouldn't be busy as it was the middle of the week and not the weekend). It was pneumonia. I got 2 shots and some pills. More pills two weeks later. It really hung on. Get thyself to the Dr. CR. Oh and when it's gone, get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot for this winter.

I probably need the strong antibiotics and maybe an inhaler,I know I'm putting people at work at risk....but my job is extremely busy right now,and no one else knows how to do it.They can do part of it,but not all.Another plant of ours in San Diego shut down and they are bringing everything here.I have to make sure everything that comes in the door is inventoried.......I guess I won't do them any good though if I get worse and go to the hospital.I had pneumonia before and this is very similiar...all except I don't have the chills and fever.I do have the being short of breath though....
Seems a "little" better than it was but still rough.The cough seems to be loosening up some crap....before it was just a dry,rasping cough.

I'm sorry you're feeling yucky!
Tell the doc you want a shot of something GOOD! Then they can give you pills also if needed, but the shot will work so fast! You've been sick too long.

Are you drinking plenty of water? Make sure you are hydrated.

The best thing in the world for a cough is to rub the bottoms of your feet with Vicks-salve, put socks and go to bed..Don't laugh!! It really works. All the nerves in your body travel to your feet that is why it works.

I just got over pneumonia, and it was the sickest I have ever been. I had no symptoms except fever and couldn't breathe deeply. I have had it twice...both times from cleaning out old, moldy stuff. Don't let it turn to pneumonia, CR. It
is awful.

Just for some comfort, rub your chest with Vicks--Also, see your doc!

Go to the doctor...especially based on your statement that "I do have the being short of breath though...."

I've been sick (very similar to what you have) since September 25 and I went to the doctor 14 hours after my symptoms started. I am still coughing, but the end of this is near! I get this every 18-24 months, so I know how sick I'd become if I didn't get meds.

My doctors advice includes using Mucinex, and it REALLY does help!
