What's for dinner 10/15?

We've been shopping all afternoon and just got home and got the groceries put away. Since Publix was the last stop, I picked up some Boar's Head roast beef and Swiss subs--on special this week. Man, no wonder I don't mind staying home. We sure can spend the money!

So it's subs and chips and a big, cold beer for dinner. :-)

I felt like cooking, so invited DD#4 and SIL over. We are going to have Swedish meatballs, squash, scalloped potatoes, and sauteed onions/peppers. Strawberry short cake for dessert.

Lunched with friend at newly opened Chinese buffet.

Wasn't good. Won't go there again :o(

Clare, I have my ribs in the slow cooker, too. They sure are smelling good!! Wish I could bake something for dessert, but it's 83 degrees outside and I'd have to turn on the air. Decided to bake the sweet potato in the microwave. Everybody's dinner sounds good--especially tacos!

Shopped today with Amber. Stopped in at Goodwill and then on to Walmart, shopped there. Lunch was from Bob Evan's. A salad, chili (only ate part of it and brought the rest home) and iced tea. Then on to Meijer and got groceries and my flu shot. If you got your shot there you got a booklet with $80 worth of coupons. It was near 3:00 by the time we were ready to leave so I called home to see if the guys wanted something to eat. Ended up buying butter burgers, fries and shakes to take home, from Steak and Shake. I had iced tea and Amber just had a shake no burger dinner for her. We had coupons for there. So that was our supper. The men are now working on the 3rd tall retaining wall. It was beautiful here again today, a bit breezy though. Hope everyone had a good day. Sue

I had some Gravlax on flat bread and a stuffed mushroom plus a cosmopolitan before going out to dinner. Dinner was rabbit fricassee followed by pheasant with gnocchi, butternut squash and a biscuit. Dessert was profiteroles with coffee ice cream and hot fudge sauce and must not forget the wine. Everything was delicious and hopefully it doesn't rain tomorrow because I have to at least do a double walk if not a triple one.

Our kitchen is not fully assembled yet (we're waiting on the countertop install) so we haven't fully fleshed out the drawer uses. We started by looking at work areas then made our best guess as to the most useful drawer combinations - not what was necessarily aesthetically pleasing. We found that 10-inch drawers seem to be the most useful. Out of the nine base cabinets there are nineteen 10-inch drawers (there is a tray cab with a door, and the sink cab with a trash pullout and a door). We did put a combo of 5-5-10-10 drawers in one cabinet. The 5-inch drawers hold utensils. In fact we just purchased the Ikea bamboo trays for those. As others have done, we also have two 15-inch drawers for appliances. In only one instance do we use an inner drawer. That's the spice drawer where the 10-inch holds the commonly used spices and the inner holds the less often used items. Our rule has always been "open and get", not "open, open, get" - way too inefficient for us ;-) As an aside we found that the Ikea Variera spice trays do not fit neatly in a 24" wide cabinet drawer (which was disappointing). We'll probably end up with non-slip drawer mats.

Stir-fried carrots, onions, peppers and broccoli. Put some hot chili sauce (Sriracha) in it, with quinoa. Yummy.

Made Linda in Iowa brownie/muffins using cake mix and a can of pumpkin for dessert.

Five of us again for our supper. We had chili soup, crackers, cheese and leftover potato salad, deviled eggs and pineapple upside down cake and iced tea.

We picked up several Italian subs and a big bag of chips, and headed over to a dear friend's house, whose mom died this week. This was supper for all of us. We had a wonderful afternoon and evening with her, her hubby, her eldest daughter whom I dearly love, and her sweet hubby. Good food and good friends to share with just can't be beat.

I marinated a pork roast and baked it. With that I made a pot of steamed rice, steamed broccoli and a tossed salad. There also was a cherrie sauce to pour over the pork and rice. It was all wonderful.

I made a quiche from scratch & a "doctored" vegetable chicken rice soup (one of the major brands), in that I added a lot of fresh vegetables to make it real thick. And cold beer.
