Raynaud's syndome

User

Susan and all you who have this....mine is back with a vengeance. My index finger has been pure white and numb for two days now, and my toes are white as well. I was perfectly fine from last April till it got cold over the weekend and immediately it flared. How about you guys?

Sorry to hear that, it's a nasty affliction. My husband and daughter both have it but have control now since the dr. said that you need to wear socks and shoes and gloves and a hat any day this is under 60 so, although they don't like it, they do it and so far two years with no flareups. You probably know this already but I thought, if you didn't, it might help.

I have a friend who has it, and it has really restricted her activity. She always crocheted, knitted, etc., besides doing a lot of canning and freezing. It seems so unfair, as she is very active, physically, too, with walking every morning and that sort of thing.

Just yesterday I finally was able to cut off the last remaining traces of fingernail damage from last winter's Raynaud's.......and now here we go again. Ugh.

I ought to take a picture of my hands so I can remind myself in a few months that they aren't always covered with sores. The pain last winter was extreme, as the sores covered my fingertips as well as the usual areas (sides and below the nails). I'm vowing to keep the house warmer, and I've stocked up on hand warmers and foot warmers.

I haven't needed either yet, although my feet are presently covered with thick wool socks and Lands' End All-Weather Mocs (my standard winter home attire). Lily, if you have white toes it sounds like you need to break out a pair of Toastie-Toes foot warmers. I have about $100 worth sitting in my bedroom, just waiting to be called upon. ;-)

Yup it is THAT time of year! Mine is back also. I did go to a specialist last year and had surgery on my carpel tunnel...believe it or not...I went from 9 white painfull fingers to just 1 middle finger that acts up. What a relief! I feel sorry for those of you that suffer from this.

It's just so random. It's my right index finger and it truly feels like a dead person's finger. When I touch it from bottom to top I feel absolutely nothing. All nine others fingers are pink and this one is purplish white. Right now it's normal but that could change in a minute. I've even had it in the summer if I'm searching around a frozen food case in the grocery store. >>Susan..where do you get toastie toes? Another question. What is the best kind of sock to buy. 100% wool? I usually wear heavy low cut cotton socks, but for winter, I'll need to change this. It's weird when I take a bath my toes are pure white and then when they hit the warm water they turn purplish black and then pink up. I've never had sores but it gets worse every year so that'll probably next. I was diagnosed with FM in 1990 but didn't have this till about five years ago.

Last year I was put on a very low dose Blood Pressure med commonly used for Raynaud's. It worked! I only took it during the cold months and will take it again this year. The dose was low enough it had no effect on my BP and the only side effect was a headache for about 1/2 hr after taking it for the first week or so.

I get HeatMax Toasti Toes from Amazon, and usually pay around $35 or so for 40 pairs (free shipping). For some reason, Amazon doesn't seem to be offering them on that basis right now, but they're still available via Amazon from other sellers. Or you could get there here for $39.95 with free shipping.

I go through at least one pair a day in winter, often two, but they have saved me from unimaginable problems.

I also use these hand and body warmers:

    HeatMax HotHands

Yes, wool socks in winter for sure.

Yes, I suffer from it too, and now that the weather is getting cool it is bothering my feet. I just bought my supply of "toe warmers" for the winter. I got them at Costco, 30 pairs for $13.49, good deal. Always make sure to wear wool socks and gloves. It sure is a pain.

My daughter suffers from it. We had hoped that she might outgrow it, but no such luck. I am getting her some of those had and foot warmers for her stocking this Christmas.

Just a little warm up in the weather today put the white finger and toes on hold for now. It's not exactly hot, but ten degrees warmer than yesterday. That must be the tipping point. I'm getting those hand and toe warmers. I usually steal them from my husband who works at a ski resort in the winter.

lily316 Do you smoke? Smoking makes it much worse. My neighbor has Raynaud's and she switched to a electronic Cigarette and now has very little problems with it.

No, Joann, I never smoked a cigarette in my life. I have fibromyagia and this is a common condition for people with this. Since it warmed up a little, only my toes are white, fingers back to normal.

Socks called "Smart Wool" are really helpful.
