I bought the original dyson animal vacuum four or five years ago. I had wasted so much money on inferior vacuums before I got my dyson!

Dysons' are every thing they are advertised to be. I have yet to find anything my dyson can't handle. It only requires maintenance every two or three months, is easy to take apart and put back together and it truly does not lose suction, even if something is caught in the roller or hose!

I purchased my Dyson about 2 mos ago, and absolutely love it. I don't know the model because it was a promotion on SNBC. The color is even different from the rest of them. I had gone to several places to check them out before I purchased mine. A lot of people liked the Animal, but I haven't heard so much of the rage lately. Dyson is promoting the "Ball", so that may be why. You may try to look on the website for where I got mine, for customer reviews because they sell a lot of different models. When I asked the salespeople at the box stores, about customer preferences, most were very helpful - not pushing one model over another. That really helped me out a lot.

One note - I still can't believe the difference between Dyson and other models. It does not seem to be that it should be, but it is.

Kalie bought the animal one earlier this summer...she LOVES it! It is really alot lighter than I figured it would be. She got a really great deal off of Amazon on it.

I have the animal, love it, have a yellow one don't know the model, love it, have the ball, have just gotten to use it once before Ike, have the handheld one love it! Can you tell I love Dysons!

Love mine too. I've had it 6 or 7 years and it's red and purple. Never loses suction and extremely easy to take apart (when I suck up a pencil) and put back together.

I bought one of the original Animal Dysons a few years ago. I loved it when I first got it and I still love it today...I don't know if they make Dyson Ball Animal or not, but if they do and I was in the market for a vacuum I would definitely buy it.

We're also in the market for a new vacuum. Ours (Dirt Devil) seems ridiculously loud. Are the Dyson's loud? I don't know if all vacuums make as much noise, or if ours is just old?

My neighbor has the Animal (& 2 cats) and LOVES it!

I have a red and purple one and recently bought a teal and purple one from a friend. I don't know the model but with the exception of the "ball" I don't think there is much difference except the attachments. You won't regret getting a Dyson.

Steph, I have the Dyson Animal DC17. It's purple and silver. I bought it about a year ago at Sears. It's the best money I've ever spent.

Yep I have the original purple and silver animal also and love it. It has never needed a new belt, in FIVE years of almost daily use (two, was three dogs, and two cats. Oh and me). The only time I've needed a repair was when I dropped the canister cover after cleaning it and the latch broke. One call to customer service and I had a new canister within the week, no questions. Great service.
I think the only difference between the Animal and the yellow Dyson is that the Animal comes with attachments that the yellow, or original Dyson, doesn't. The vacuum itself is the same.

A Dyson is worth it.

I kept buying the Hoovers and the Bissells and the DirtDevils at $100-$150 a pop and they'd last one year; maybe two. (with three indoor dogs and at one time, a cat) I vacuum a LOT and those brands would just stop working. I could have purchased two dyson's for what I spent on vacuums of lesser quality.

I want to get the Dyson hand held.

My Dyson is kind of a red/pink color and as everyone has said, worth every penny I paid for it. I taught my 11 year old how to take the cover off the bottom and cut the hair and strings off the brush. She likes to do that sorta stuff so I'm loving my Dyson even more!! My old vacuums were loud and heavy, this one isn't exactly light but it is easy to maneuver and sucks up everything.

The first day I brought it home I vacuumed the whole house. MY first words to my dh,,we're pigs!,,OK NOT really,, but I made him come look at what it picked up. Kinda funny to think about it. I would love to buy another for the basement.

LOL toni_ne... I had the same reaction when we brought home the Animal Dyson. We live in the sticks, with sandy/gravel roads, near a sandy beach, with firewood being brought in all winter, snow, and all the hair a dog, two cats, and long haired me. The dyson gets it all! In fact,it gets more! It sucked the broken edge of a linoleum tile right off the floor (still have to replace the 1940's flooring, but at least I know that I don't have a beach on my floor every day with the new vacuum).

I do find though, that with the Dyson, it takes a while for the cord, and the vacuum hose to stretch out a bit, so they aren't so stiff to use. I felt like I'd made a mistake at first with getting the Dyson, because the hose wouldn't stretch as far as I needed it to. A few weeks later, it started to relax, and now it's wonderful.

The attachments are nice to have (especially the one for the floors that you can use under tables, couches, and the smaller areas that the "big" part of the main vac can't reach.

We also got the box of cleaning products that are included here, and find the products to be AMAZING. The spray on spot remover has removed several set in stains on a couch arm, and the granular carpet product worked like a charm on a carpet that had gotten musty smelling from a leaky roof.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Dysons, even though they are VERY pricey. At Sears, we tried all of the Dysons, and found the purplepeopleeater to be the best for us.

Was very interested in all the comments on the Dyson vacs. Terilyn-is the handheld one a rechargable or is it electric? I am in the market for a rechargable one and was wondering if Dyson makes one? Does any one know that ?
We are suppose to get frost tonight which means I am ou t to the garden to salvage what I can.

Interesting comments on the Dyson. I need a new vacuum and have been thinking about a Dyson. My house is about 1/2 & 1/2, carpet and hardwood. Would a Dyson work on both? I would also like to get under some furniture like beds and close to the baseboards so, does a Dyson have good side suction?

I would like this to be the last vacuum cleaner I ever need to buy. Hummm...think I'm asking for too much?

I have the Breast Cancer Pink one that Target sells. When I bought mine, they had a promo...buy the Dyson, get a 100$ gift card for Target, and they also made a $50 donation to the SGK society.
I LOVE the vacuum...Texas is dusty, we have a big yard that we keep up, so "stuff" is tracked in, we have a cat and we have a white kitchen floor :^(. I think I may be good advertising for the Dyson! :^)

Hand held one is rechargable, kind of like a dustbuster.

I also wonder how they are on wood floors. Will they damage them?

Another question...most vacuums I've ever seen spit a fine mist of dust. The Eureka (The Boss) that I have now does NOT do that...so I can't really see trading up. But DH has the hardest time adjusting the Eureka, probably because he doesn't use it very often. (OK, so neither do I...)

Nope... no spitting with either the main vacuum, or the attachment for floors! I had the same issue with the DirtDevilpieceofgarbage we had before, so I was leary with the new Dyson. So far no floor has managed to escape "the super sucker!" It works on our parquet floor, the linoleum, and the carpets. And like the ads all say, it never loses suction, even when the canister is full.

If you're lazy like me, and inundated at times with the rolling hills of dog/cat hair, you'll be surprised to see the stuff being sucked towards the vacuum, across the floor! Nothing escapes. The only thing I miss is a stiffer small brush for lampshades etc, but it does come with a soft little brush that works ok, just was used to the older style stiff bristle one.

I have the original yellow one and love it love it love it! Two shelties and 3 cats, several oriental rugs, lots of bamboo and hardwood floors, plus a couple of carpeted rooms. There is nothing like this vacuum cleaner. I've spent money over the years on expensive machines that didn't work and cheap machines that didn't work. I've had my Dyson for 4 or 5 years (maybe a little longer?) and don't know how I lived without it! You will never be disappointed!

When DH went to the store to get ours I was expecting him to come home with the purple Animal. But the price difference was significant and he decided to go with the less costly model. I'm sure the Animal is even better but this one does the job very well. I would like the ball but only because it's cool, not because I need a new one.
