afraid of clowns. I saw an ad in the paper today for a haunted house and one of the rooms has "Killer Clowns". It showed a picture of a man surrounded by clowns and I swear, sweat broke out on my forehead. That would be terrifying. The ad DID say it wasn't for children. (That may be because they had a room called "Naughty Nurses", too. Wonder what the heck THAT is???)

What do you fear?

I have a couple of kids who are really terrifed of clowns, and they are not young kids! This is a phobia called coulrophobia, and is quite common, according to google.

Hi Sarah, Nope, these puppies are staying above ground. My son (who is home from college for spring break) was REAL happy to hear they're staying above ground! In one of them, I'm going to put 2 tropical lilies. In the other, I'll probably put a lily and maybe marginals or a lotus. ....So many stocktanks... so little time. hahaha :) I'm finding that lilies need alot of room to spread out. I have 3 100 gallons tanks, but they are pretty small for a lily to stretch its legs. If I go with several tropical lilies each summer, I won't have to worry about overwintering them. (Although I have the feeling I'll be so appreciative to them for making me so happy all summer, I'll still try to help them make it through winter). Also....I really like having the water up so close to me, without having to lean over so far! I'm thinking of naming our property something like "stocktank hollow" or "stocktank paradise"........hahaha Also, I think the snake stays out of the above ground stocktanks, so it will give the froggies more hiding places, hopefully.

We kept busy. We were out at the grocery store at 6 am....they had some door-crasher specials (grapefruit 4/$1, cartons of oj for $1.39, bananas for .29 lb and Kraft peanut butter for $2.88 for 1 kg). Hubby defrosted the freezer and organized it, and I washed the apartment halls and stairs. I also did 2 loads of wash and hung them out on the line, and some other piddly things. I made a casserole for dinner that BeeOhio posted in the casserole thread.....buffalo chicken and potatoes. I'll definitely make it again and tweak it a bit more.

Wow, thanks! I've been enjoying (well, most of the time) the company of my 5.5 y.o. granddaughter, Brekken since Sunday after Church. It's spring break. She didn't want to stay home all day with her step-dad and brother. Dad's not working so DD doesn't have daycare any longer. She goes home later today. I can get back to my normal routine! Di

I can't think of anything I'm afraid of. My Mom said I was afraid of watermelons when I was a small child. I definately got over that fear!!!

My kids never liked clowns either.

Snakes and chopping up cats inside the engine compartment of a vehicle. Those are two that REALLY creep me out!

I have the same fear as YaYa plus, when I was about 4 or 5 years old my mother and I were on a city bus in downtown Memphis. There must have been some kind of parade on Main Street. The bus was stopped and suddenly this big headed clown popped his head just outside the window where I was sitting. That scared me so badly. Other than that I didn't have a fear of clowns until I read a Stephen King book about clowns. I had made one out of those little fabric yoyos and had it posed on a dresser. I'd had it for a few years. After reading that book I gave that clown away and have never had any desire to be around them again.

Yep, I think Stephen King scared a lot of people of clowns. Two of my DDIL's are afraid of them. I bought one a magnet that says, "Can't sleep - clowns will eat me!" Will add it to her b'day present in December.

Going down escalators, especially if they are steep and you can't see the ground floor. My feet freeze and I have to wait until someone allows me to latch on their arm, to get on.

I KNOW I can ride an elevator, but I don't like riding an elevator by myself. Fear of it stopping with me in it all by myself!

    Gotta be snakes for me.

I fear anacondas and boa constrictors - the big snakes.

LOL Kathy G! I need to find that magnet!

I'm glad to know I have lots of company with that clown thing.

I guess we all have fears--don't like escalators, bridges (high ones) either. Love watermelon, however. But I can do those other things. Just breathe deeply!

Now I don't know nothin' about choppin' up cats, Ya Ya???

Bears, I am petrified of live bears. Seeing them on TV is ok, but going to the zoo, the hair on the back of neck will go up. And if they are sleeping, they wake up and come to get as close to me as they can. When I was younger, my friend and I were walking in the local park with our dogs. The dogs were frightened and very uneasy. So we figured we had better leave the area. Went a ways and heard something in the bushes. To this day, I swear I outran the dogs, dead run until were were out in the old logging road in a field, out of the woods. Stopped to catch our breath and looked back and the hill we had just booked down, we saw a big rolling mountain of a bear come running down it and thank heavens he went up the other side and not out into the field where we stopped. A few minutes later behind the bear came a couple of game wardens trying to push the bear out of the park and back into the woods away from the park. We did not know, but it was a mother bear with cubs and had decided the girl scout camp and park was a pretty nice place. Once in awhile a bear will try to take up residence in the park and the game wardens will discourage it and push it back into the wilds.

I have a real fear of wasps. Always have. It gets in the way of gardening!

I'm not fond of clowns either. I've always said I'm not afraid of them, I'm more offended by them. They make me uncomfortable. It probably is fear but doesn't make me feel like running away or covering my eyes or screaming. They irritate me. I have clown issues.

Have you ever noticed how "clown issues" sounds the same as "clownish shoes"??? That can't be a coincidence.

My sister is afraid of clowns. I know this is her phobia, and I know a lot of people are afraid of clowns, but I just think that is hilarious.
One of my email siggys is a clown coming up out of a jack in the box-I never, ever use that one when I email my sister. I use to forget sometimes, but not since she threatened my life. Hey in my defense, I didn't know that her phobia included all clowns, even animated ones.

I don't care for clowns either, buy am not scared of them Maybe it is the way they seem to "come" at a person and many children and adults don't like that. You cannot "see: the eyes/face and you feel threatened. So you are not alone.
I do not like elevators, because of clostaphobia.

birds!!! i don't know why but i have always been terrified of birds, hate to go in Lowes or HD or garden centers where they are flying around your heads. ugh!@

My heart-stopping fear is the loup-garou (or werewolf) who hides under my bed and as I get ready to hop into bed, he reaches out and grabs my leg. Having a lamp lit on my bedside table helps a little, but if the room is dark, the heart palpitations start!!!

I share the others' bad feeling about clowns, and that Stephen King book didn't help any.

I also share Mickey's fear of bridges over water, including piers.

I share yaya's fear...last month I chopped up one of my kittens in my engine. I'm always telling everyone "let me call the kittens" before they go to leave or move a vehicle...I was in a hurry and I did it! It was an awful sound and I cried like a baby about it. I miss him so much!

My biggest fear of all is strong winds...they terrify me. Went thru too many hurricanes in Alabama! Never had this fear until I sat thru a couple of them.

Birds inside a store and roosters. I could never figure out why someone would want to decorate a room in rooster motif. I was attacked by a bantie when I was 3 or 4.

Another one here who's kids didn't like clowns or anyone dressed in costumes like the characters at Six Flags. They weren't afraid of them exactly they just didn't want anything to do with them. We were eating at a restaurant with our oldest son (who has a lot of social fears) once and there was a clown going table to table entertaining kids and handing out balloons. When he came to ours we had to say no thanks. The clown gave us a funny look and walked away.
I have a few hangups and fears but not phobias.

Caves. The walk upright on a nice well lit path ones are okay. But, the idea of scrunching through some narrow, muddy passage on my belly is more than I can handle.

I guess I don't have fears of things like clowns, snakes or the like, but heights still get me. I had gotten over most of it when I was young, but after I broke my hip in a stairway I had a real fear of stairways for a long, long time. I'm over that now, but heights still get me. Can't go up an extension ladder. Step ladders are fine, but extension ladders are no-go for some reason.

Plus I still have quite a fear of doctors.... that's gotten better, much better but....

Know what you mean, Cheryl. The fan has chopped up several kittens (and adults) through the years and I've cried everytime!

I don't like clowns either. I know they are supposed to be funny, but slapstick was never my thing and they were always somehow scary! Didn't laugh at the three stooges either!

I don't like escalators. Especially down escalators. Always have to take three deep breaths and find the exact moment to step on..and only if I'm holding the handrails. Firmly. I'd really rather take the stairs, if any were available.

I have an unreasonable fear of falling. Can't climb ladders of any sort, for fear I won't get down. A few years ago I climbed one to get to our attic (there is no other access) and I thought DH was either going to have to get a cherry picker to get me down or throw me off the roof. Throwing me off would have been the preferred option, because cherry picker buckets shake!

Interestingly, I have no fear of flying at all. Maybe it's the absence of converging lines telling me how far up I REALLY am. May it's being tightly strapped in between two much larger people with no room to wiggle.

But I REALLY don't like clowns!

I'm afraid of people who hate clowns. I have a great clown costume and I've been verbally attacked and even had stuff thrown at me. And I'm a happy, friendly looking clown. Big smile, traditional colorful one piece suit, floppy shoes...sheesh.

I'm with Linda, those darn chickens...I lived on a farm while growing up and my job was to feed and gather the eggs...Many times, the roaster would come after me, still shudder when I think about it.....
But I think my main fear is water...I love the ocean, but only knee deep..We've had a pool forever and everyone knows, DO NOT throw water at me or get my face wet. I panic near a rushing river or creek...And, I have no idea why!

Justlinda, I can relate to that! When I was younger, I watched WAY TOO MANY horror movies. When I took a shower, I would peek out the shower over and over to make sure someone didn't come in to kill me! And when I went to bed, I would stand back a few feet and jump into bed so that if there was anyone under the bed they couldn't reach out and grab my ankle! Then when I was in bed, I would tuck the blankets way under me so something couldn't reach under my blanket and grab me! I just stopped doing all these about 15 years ago, and I'm 37 now.

Ron, I'm also afraid of caves like you talk about. There was a movie a while ago where these girls were crawling through these tiny crevices inside a cave and were barely squeezing through and I had to look away because I was having a hard time breathing watching it.

I said earlier that I'm afraid of bridges over water, when I go over them I unbuckle my seat belt and roll the windows down so if I get knocked off the bridge I won't be trapped in my car under the water. When dd was little I would reach back and unbuckle her carseat buckle too til we got off the bridge.

Not exactly clowns, but masked faces. That'll give me the heebie-jeebies. And sharks, of course, and snakes. That's about it, really.

Oh, I forgot one- I have to have the closet door closest to the bed closed at night. And I NEVER dangle any body parts over the edge of the bed, ever. I even wrap my hand up in the sheet to make sure it can't happen accidently. Closet- monsters. Under bed- alligators or crocs. Yeah, too many Tarzan movies as a kid, I guess!
