Name three special foods that make your holiday meals special.

I would say for me, it would be...

1. Turkey and the trimmings

2. Yeast Rolls (homemade)

3. Homemade pie of any kind, especially black raspberry

What 3 things do you like to have at any of your holiday meals?

A good baked ham.

Buttery Yukon Gold mashed potatoes.

Good bread stuffing with oysters and a can of turkey gravy poured over the top.

I know you said three, but it isn't the holidays unless I make a batch of my fudge.

Home made breads and rolls or yorkshire pudding.

The best foods to make a goldfish grow is just a good variety of foods. An example, I have two ryukin fry in a 66 gallon. They have doubled in size since I got them a little over a month ago. I am feeding Frozen brine shrimp Frozen blood worms Frozen goldfish food...which contains spiralina,bloodworms, veggies, and krill Hikari goldfish pellets for orandas another kind of pellets...can't remember the name flakes...a variety shrimp pellets Hikari algae wafers. If I could find the hikari wheat germ pellets, I would add them also.....but there is no chance of finding them around here. Keep the water very clean and your goldfish will grow and flourish. I must confess, that I know they need hardening off in the spring least they burn up , but it seems mine even after weeks of hardening off still want to burn even in Michigan, though most likely any of those weaker leaves that burn would be shed and then would be followed by more sun tollerant leaves. In fact some older foliage on some types of tropicals never will acclimate to full sun though the newer leaves do, but in hopes of the reverse not making them shed in fall going from bright light to much lower light, I just picked a sort of middle ground so the new leaves dont' demand so much light without going into shock on their return trip indoors. I find that even the growth on my bougainvilleas , which gets five or six hours of sun starting in late afternoon, goes into a fast decline within a week of comming back indoors, and nearly all leaves are shed in a little over a couple of weeks. As I recall, most of the hibiscuses in California were growing in nearly full sun to part sun, so I know the extra sun will help with flowering. Next summer I will bite the bullet and not worry about burnt leaves so much and hopefully that will make a difference.

Cauliflower and Pepper Casserole 1 med. head cauliflower,broken into florets 1/4 cup chopped green pepper 1/4 cup chopped red pepper 1 cup sour cream 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/2 cup crushed cornflakes salt and pepper to taste 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese Place cauliflower and a small amount of water in a saucepan, cover, and cook for 5 minutes or until crisp tender. Drain. Mix with sour cream, cheddar cheese, cornflakes, peppers, and salt and pepper. Transfer to a greased 2 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with parmesan and paprika. Bake uncovered at 325 for 30-35 minutes. ( I baked at 350) Recipe from Linda McGinty Taste of Home Zucchini and Potato Fritters 1 zucchini 1 medium potato 1 small onion 1 tsp. dried thyme 1 egg 1/4 cup flour oil Grate zucchini and potato and onion. Mix grated veggies with thyme, egg, and flour until combined. Het some oil in a large frying pan and cook fritters until golden brown and cooked on both sides. Drain. Serve warm with sour cream. Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I know that is a very stressful time. I have had several CRF cats over the years and some foods that we tried were Hill's a/d (high calorie which is great for those with waning appetites), Hills k/d (renal diet), Gerber turkey or chicken baby food (great treat for picky eaters), and certain flavors of Organix and Weruva (low phosphorus canned food). In the end, I believe that it is important that your cat eat anything. I tried to give my current CRF cat the best low phosphorus and low protein foods on the list, but he got bored of them. He began losing even more weight and my vet said just to give him whatever he wants to eat now because keeping his weight up is the main priority. We supplement his food with a phosphate binder (aluminum hydroxide powder). I also give my CRF cat 150ml LRS subcutaneously every night. Do you warm up the bag before you administer it? I noticed that it made a difference because my cat used to be squirmish until I did it. Just place the bag in a tub of warm water and let it sit for a while. Make sure you also run the line too in order to remove the cold solution. My CRF cat is also on Calcitriol and Azodyl. Has your vet mentioned those medications to you? I recommend them both..look into them, especially the Azodyl, because I have noticed an improvement in my cat's bloodwork ever since he started it. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. When I think of holiday dinners when I was growing up I think of home made pasta of some sort, roasted chestnuts at Thanksgiving and Christmas and for Christmas eve many fish dishes. Of course I do none of the above exceptchestnuts! Satine

1. Granny's turkey and dressing- when she moved the pan did not fit into the oven- had to take it to the fire station and they used the jaws of life to cut the handles off. HAD to have the dressing in the dressing pan!

2. Granny's buttermilk biscuits

3. Nama's fudge icing (didn't care about the cake underneath, just want the fudge icing!

I am Asian and resent asian food for Thanksgiving. If we're living in the US and agreed to observe the Thanksgiving meal, a turkey is a must on the table and cooked in the traditional American style. LOL...

All the side dishes seemed to fall into the "starch" category: mash potato, sweet potato casserole, corn, etc.

So, we must have Cranberry Relish to disolve all the starch and the fats (wishful thinking :o).

As for Christmas, I'm not bias.

Rhizo_1, of course the holidays are not about food. Nevertheless, certain traditional holiday brings certain food expectation. Turkey is much associated with Thanksgiving and that is also expected. As far as asian food, maybe it's special for you but for us, it's every day meals. Nothing special about it.

Btw, there is no such thing as an "Asian Thanksgiving" theme. LOL... Unless, you want to be the first to create one.

Really good giblet gravy makes the meal for me.
The other two are cornbread dressing made like my DM made, and of course pumpkin pie, not store-bought.

blfenton, do you have a recipe for the carrot pudding? I'm always looking ways to use carrots, because I really like them.

I meant no offense, ntt. I was just looking back with fondness on a couple of holiday dinners I attended while a student at a good sized multi-cultural university. Each of us brought a favorite dish from "home"; one year we sampled food from Nigeria, Argentina, Korea, Yugoslavia, England, India, US, and more. Everyone was happy to bring something to pass around the table.

1.Stuffed & roasted goose with all the trimmings

2. Indian corn pudding

3.roasted beets

Of course that also comes with all the trimmings, home made picke & relish trays, mashed potatoes & gravy, squash, 3 bean salad, saute'd parsnips, at least a half dozen assorted pies

and to top it all off, a steamed plum pudding with plum sauce for desert.
