'Genie' is a dwarf only in comparison with other magnolias. Most sources list the 10 year height as 12 to 15 feet. It ought to be fine in a pot, however, for a couple of years. The biggest problem will be protecting it in the winter. Any plant in a container is much more vulnerable to root damage/death from cold than it would be in the ground. You will have to find some way to insulate the pot once the tree goes dormant. Wrapping with fiberglass insulation followed by plastic for protection from wetness is one possibility. Storing in a basement or garage that does not go too far below freezing is another. How possible either of these suggestions are in an apatment complex is another question entirely.

I put the ornaments on my tree today. Last year I didn't and it actually looked alright but today I got the boxes down and before I knew it I was unwrapping and hanging ornaments. For some reason it was a little more frustrating than usual and in fussing to hang them just right, I broke TWO favorite vintage ones. :( Whenever an ornament hits the wood floor there is total destruction - of the ornament that is. I was, and am, so sad. Had to make sure I swept up all the slivers so cats wouldn't get them in their paws. May look on Etsy to see if there is anything comparable to them. Some colors are more difficult to find than others. But I'm glad I decided to adorn this year.

Vlad, I have found it to be almost the same. I could suggest some alternatives; but those are mostly illegal and/or risk importing diseases (the "legal" justification of denying imports). Examples: I am not allowed to export my lemons into any citrus producing area of the USA; I can only ship to the NE States (north of the Mason Dixon line on the East coast. The official reason is Mediterranean Fruit Fly (although it has rarely been shown to infect lemons); the REAL reason is agricultural protectionism. Proof??? Chile is allowed to ship yellow lemons into California. The official reason is Chile doesn't have Medfly; the REAL reason, the Chilean growers are all or mostly all California companies. Chile cannot ship yellow lemons into other citrus growing areas, including Florida and Louisiana. Similar rules apply to New Zealand. I am a member of the Citrus committee of the Association of Guatemalan exporters. Last year, in a concerted effort to create certified disease free nurseries for Guatemala, we tried to import certified seed for rootstock, and certified disease free budwood from the CCCP at Riverside, California. Everyone we contacted "SAID" it was no problem; but the number of seeds or buds we have received to date is still ZERO!

with the soil looking that dry i suspect you arent watering deeply enough.. into the gob planted.. to get water down thru the root mass ... put a hose on a trickle and let it run for a few hours ... build a little moat if it just runs away ... and add a 3 to 4 foot ring of mulch around it.. to maintain the moisture you finally get down there ... advise if you have non draining bad soil ... btw.. how are you currently watering ??? even better.. take a hand trowel.. and dig a couple 3 to 6 inch holes in the gob planted.. and in native soil.. and FIND out if there is any moisture down at root level.. maybe do that first.. lol where in teh world did youget a bare root plant that large??? throw in location.. big city name also ... it is severely stressed.. moving it is only more stress ... ken
